It’s crazy how normal life still was in February 2020. It wasn’t really until March exactly when everything changed. I remember hearing some news about COVID-19 then but it was more being reported still on the other side of the world. My 18th birthday was on Tuesday March 10, 2020 and that Friday March 13, 2020 was the last time I was at school. In a way I compare 3/13 to 9/11 because of how dramatic things changed. Last year was such a rough year for me. I lost my 20 year old cousin from an accidental overdose and I lost my 85 year old grandma from cancer. My friend after 6 1/2 years also cut me out as well as other friends. I’ve also been struggling with depression since 2017 and in 2018 I started to get better and 2019 was the best year ever for me. I started to relapse to my old ways and habits in August 2020 particularly after I almost got into a bad car crash. I’m not on medication too. I’m also struggling with my first year of college because it’s all online. To be honest I’m glad I didn’t see a whole lot of mention of masks, social distancing and quarantine because it’s nice to see a type of normalcy from 2020

My last day in real school was March 10th the same exact day but a month later something happened that changed my life completely. It’s crazy how our lives can change in a blink.

For me 2019 will always be considered as the last year of normal life, I remember seeing so vibrant and colorful photos from cities like London, New York, Melbourne, Toronto and Vancouver at that time, it's really heartbreaking how world has fallen in just 5 years 😭💔

My friend, she and I have been friends since 2nd grade. Never backstabbed each other. Never badmouthed each other. I started to like her more then a friend. I turned 18 and I then asked her to be my girlfriend on March 14th 2020. She said yes. We had the best day ever and it got ruined by this. Just one day later. Stay indoors locked up and 6 feet apart or whatever. I didn't see her till January of 2021. She then told me she is moving to take care of her aunt. What a time to be alive.

I was born in 2001. This really hits different and fierce. My 20th life, first adult life, was literally 24/7 at home. No exploring or anything. I was devastated. I'm trying to get better now.

Looking at the February 2020 footage some years later, I more fully understand the quote that "we must ensure that... our cities are not just settlements where people merely exist amid a whirl of traffic, but places to live in, and enjoy--fully!" That quote is from the late Ann McEwen, from the old British Television News Show, "A Look at Life." The Episode is called "The City's For Living," and it is available on RU-vid for those who would like to watch.

I look around at the old footage, here, and I see that although NYC had already made progress, everyone took the city for granted and tuned it out because it felt like in most parts of the city, people merely existed amid a whirl of traffic. New Yorkers did not really live in and enjoy the city's streets. The parks, yes, the squares, yes, but not the streets. Of course, the video and most of the original comments seem slightly melodramatic now, because we were, at that time anyway, no longer used to having quarantines and lockdowns to stop the spread of disease. But we can remember just how hard it became. It felt like time was this weird, irrelevant concept, and so much waste existed. It could be restful, but stressfully so given how much waste, death, and permanent degradation was involved. But still, we made it out the other side as a society. Let's hope we never find ourselves so badly caught off guard again, and that better planning and preparedness do work well to prevent this in future.@@UrbanistExploringCities

Sniff... this just brings back so much nostalgia during the days in my home state of Georgia before COVID happened, back then no one was wearing masks, everyone didn’t distance each other, we could go to school safely without any risk of getting sick, we could have family gatherings and reunions, it was just normal life until that dreaded virus we discovered in January in Wuhan, plz god just help us get through this pandemic safely, I just want life to be normal again and just remember what it was like before that day happened in late March, perfectly made video and prays that life will be back to normal this year hopefully during the spring or summer

In December 2019, world news reports in China about a mysterious pneumonia outbreak was coming into question which scared me because I feared that this was it. This is history repeating itself because there’s always a once in a lifetime event that always changes society. However being American I thought, well, it’s on the other side of the world. It can’t happen here. I honestly believe as American because of geographic protections we have of having two great big oceans we think that whatever is happening in the world can’t or will not happen here.
