The Police have no control of that. The Democrat DA, Judges, Mayor and Governor etc have control of that.

It is called "security theater". I've made the math, so to say, and they would need around 175.000 police officers in each shift to properly protect NY Subway system (trains and train stations). What crazy math? Around 20 police officers per train station, and around 4 police officers per carriage of the train. Of course my math is for real world security, not for "security theater". Of course is not possible! I'm not implying that anyone will put 175.000 police officers for that per shift. Probably much less than that would be effective IF when people are caught doing something criminally wrong, would be in prison/ jail until they are considered ok to return to society and be a useful member of it, not doing more criminal activity, like: attacking others, stealing, being on illegal drugs that make them crazy, etc. Police officers looking at their phones it seems not very professional, they need to have some additional training. Of course they may need to look at their phones for professional reasons, but I'm guessing that people are not happy with it because they don't seem to be there looking out for any wrong behavior. With so many overtime hours maybe they are tired and just want to go home rest and are there maybe even without wanting (mandatory overtime? not sure if it is the case or not).

Try reporting violent crime to them. They will gaslight you that you weren’t really hurt, and it’s no need to escalate. Then they turn around and use their data to tell the press that crime is down.

They had thousands of more officers back then. Now everything is overtime. Paying double the normal salary because they refuse to hire more.
