I was born with congenital nystagmus and can honestly say "It has ruined my life" I did not do well at school because of it, due to not being able to read the blackboard. It hasaffected my ability to find work, and I am not able to drive. And it can lead to socialisolation, because people are frightened by it, concluding you must be on drugs or something. Its often described as "weird eyes" I have had people sitting opposite from me get up and leave, some even burst out laughing as they do so. believe me, it is no laughing matter. I have three brothers, none of which have this condition, and all have done well in life. I suppose I should be grateful, I could have been born blind or something
I Just thought I would mention for those with Nystagmus. I have found that the group of prescribed medicines known as Benzodiazepines really do help in controlling Nystagmus, because they are a Muscle relaxing medication and really do help, at least in my case, to ease the tension on the muscles that control the eyes. Trouble is, most GP's are reluctant to prescribe this type of medication, because they say it is addictive, but then so is alcohol!
It certainly helps if you are lucky enough to get it, or any of the Benzo's such as Valium. But, if you live in the UK like I do, then your chances will be very slim. I am not condoning this use of this medication, but it certainly helped a little in my case. But, I doubt that I won't get it for much longer as my current GP is only working 1 day a week, and will probably be gone before too long.
If you can get Xanax then go for it. As it is grouped in the group of Benzo-diazepines you may not be able to get it, NOT here in the UK, unless you can find a sympathetic doctor, who cares. I did, but not for much longer, as he is now winding down, and very hard to see. It has helped me, not so, for many who could be helped by this. It isnot a "Miracle Cure" be it sure helps.
Me too. Sometimes it happens by itself in my left eye when I'm reading, watching TV etc. I correct it whenever I realise this happened or whenever I want.
Born with one and I can say it kind of suck, struggling with school, low self-confident and become one of those quiet-shy child. But I had good friends around me and let me borrow their notes :)
I have had nystagmus since the day I was born. I have rotary nystagmus. Without glasses, my vision is considered legally blind. With correction, my vision is 20/40 in my right eye, which is my good eye. Very interested to know what the actual underlying cause is.
I was never diagnosed with this and never had this growing up. Lately, I always look like my eyes are rolling whenever I blink. No wonder why people think I’m a “bitch” when I really don’t mean to roll my eyes at them... it just happens
My son has it and the eye doc suggested hard contacts for him between the summer of 5th and 6th grade for ideal treatment…he didn’t do well that young. He’s 16 now and we are going to do them again. Doc says that having the hard lenses allows him to feel his eyes moving and therefore he can try to train them to stop himself. I did hard contacts with him last year and they weren’t bad at all! Takes a few days to work up to wearing all day. We just didn’t keep up with them, but are going to try again at our annual appt.
I have this condition and so does my mother one of the most obnoxious things as I've gotten in trouble at school for quote on quote for rolling my eyes
Even I am suffering from the same since my birth. At last doctor said there is no cure for this. Surgery is a option but we connot assume that how much it is successfull.
This should be called: "All that you wanted to know about your nystagmus that doctors never bothered telling you about." Both eyes since birth, chronic, left to right, but i can force them to stop by crossing my left eye and keeping right eye fixed. Not a real fix when you want to show credibility to new acquaintances. People often misjudge my character, claiming i'm uninterested, nervous or worse, on drugs. Luckily it can be laughed off with friends, saying things like "is a ghost fucking your nose?" Jovial, truly.
Viha it's actually rather amusing watching parents trying to explain to kids not to stare or ask questions. In my case I happen to have one blind eye. I simply joke with the kids and tell them that I just hurt myself or something, usually a white lie that stops the questions. It makes parents more comfortable knowing you have a sense of humor about things. Even if you are insulted, kids really don't know better, and since I work in hospitality it helps that my guests feel free to ask anything. I once had a kid come and put a sticker on my eyepatch and said thank you before they left for home. I do meet others with nystagmus occasionally and my best advice is to get a sense of humor. It's not something that is going away so we need to get over some insecurity. Being socially awkward and disabled aren't a good combination for success. Anyway that's a little bit I felt like sharing. I wish you a good day or evening, night, morning? Oh you know what I mean.
@@BlindRambler You are so right. A sense of humour is the best way to tell others who may be unsure as to why someone has this problem. Don't let it define you. Your brain is 100% ok, your body is working well, your mouth speaks so what if your eyes aren't perfect. You have your vision.
I actually have Nystagmus but i have 100% control over it I can start and stop it whenever I want as I'm getting older i have tried not to do it as much
I can Voluntarily Nystagmus by slightly crosseyeing one eye then intending a fixation on an object with the straight eye and then I let the brain try to correct both eyes while it notices the cross eye is off but then it breaks the fixation of the straight eye and I run the correction again. This intented glitch hacking the correction sequence is very fast but takes much will power to run while ignoring the secondary sequence which would have corrected the hack. When you stop fixating or stop ignoring the secondary correction, the glitch will stop.
I have nystagmus and cannabis oil helps me. But not the one from the seeds which you can buy in the supermarket, but the one made out of plant tops, by Rick Simpson recipe. You can find it online.
I'm self-diagnosed with acquired nystagmus in one eye. I believe it's because my blood glucose level is through the roof. I'm on day 4 of a carnivore diet (animal foods only, zero carbs) and it's better already. I believe when I reverse my T2 diabetes, it will disappear. :)
@@rpstovall best to do your research, but, in my experience, yes. Best way to get Magnesium is through your skin...mineral springs baths, epsom salt baths, or my favorite, magnesium oil on the bottom of my feet every night.
Im a kid and i searched up why does my eyes go side by side and wheni found out i was like "... well is there any side effects?" and i lose focus sometimes
I was born with nystagmus. I would love to keep in contact with everyone i presently know and get to know in the future that have Nystagmus. This is a New Idea for me -- Could be positive for all of us to get to know and communicate with each other because only we know what it's like and can truly understand. We all need to network together. No better time to start than Now. Ideas?
I was also born with this problem for discuss this matter i want to contact you please reply with your contact information contact me at Email:- sk.rag143@gmail.com
All my life, I tryed to control it and hide it from others, its a disability. If people know you're weak, they will beat you at everything. Nobody cares, they just want to beat you out, in sports a job, your girlfriend.
Maybe, if people say what country they are from only then in each country people could start by connecting with their own Nationality and if they get a group going they have a starting point. I am Irish..IRELAND.
My first born have developed eye balls movement when he was nine month old then becomes pralaysed he undergo cit scan the brain after 1 year of sickness he dies, and my second born is starting the same problem now eye balls movement i dont know what to do please help
Okay not to be rude but, this video is actually giving me a very bad flashbacks, it starts with an N but I can't think of the word right now, the music I hate in the imagery is just very complicated to explain but I feel like it's in one of my dreams that I had as a child, or maybe trauma that I don't remember, does anybody else feel the same? Or is it just me?
Love the vertical one. I almost never experience it but when I do my eyes just teleport directly down and then up and for some reason it feels like heaven
Please bro, dont say bllsht. This shit is the worst curse than someone's could have. Everyone thinks you're weird, 'cos they're stupid and can't understand that's a involuntary movement. Definitely nobody's should to born whit this.
Aria- Wolf same... but it looks creepy when I look people straight. Sometimes I forget to turn my whole head and people notice me “rolling me eyes with attitude” when I don’t even notice looking from the sides 😔 I didn’t have this as a child, I wish it would go away
Hi everyone I'm only 11 and I just found out that I have nystagmus and I don't quite understand it all I know is that 8% of the world have it and that I know how to do it I didn't understand this video much but I want some help from someone to find a good video to find out what it can do to me cause I still have no idea please help
I was born with it and my vision is 2/600 without glasses and around 2/60 with glasses. Were you born with it and how is your vision? I hope your vision is better than mine. You are young so please don't let it get you down. My daughter is 24 and has it as well but not near as bad as mine is, thankfully
As a fellow person with nystagmus can I ask in what areas you’ve struggled? Also how old are you? I want to offer some advice if I can, especially if you’re like a teen with it. But I’d like to know what areas you struggle cause we may struggle with different things
@@jbach2002 hey bro, I have nystagmus too. How old are you? I'm 27 Y/O. I have the horizontal one and a involuntary horizontal head movement too, that's make me look like I'm retarded or something, well, that's the people say at my back frequently. but I had no cognitive problems. Even I'm smarter than these people but, its uncomfortable the way in that they see me when I do my work. I wish to know if you some medical prescription or a tip for me. Thanks
@@YoshieDub I feel you, that’s the same kind I have. I don’t know what causes it though. And same, I have zero cognitive issues but I’m socially awkward paired my nystagmus. Had people ask if I’m autistic, or talk to me extremely condescendingly. Drives me crazy. Anyway, I’m 20. I had corrective surgery at the children’s hospital in Akron, Ohio when I was 2. It reduced my eye movement to where I can read and drive, granted neither is all that easy. From what I know, it’s never correctable. Even after my surgery I need glasses, and even with glasses I can only see at 20/70. Thankful knowing it could’ve been worse though. If you haven’t had surgery, it’s always worth looking into. If your American or able to go to the US, they do it at different places. It’s done in the UK too. Not sure about other countries. A muscle relaxer called Baclofen helps reduce eye movement drastically. Contacts can restrict eye movement so can work better than glasses. Tips… growing up I learned to let nystagmus be apart of me but not let it be me. I’ve come to enjoy when people ask about my eyes because I can explain why they move, it’s something unique about me. Often when people have some condition, any condition really, they make it their whole personality. It’s what defines them most. And they blame everything on it. I don’t let myself do that. I have nystagmus but I am not nystagmus. It’s just a part of me. Just learning to look at it that way has helped my confidence a lot. Other than that, blue light glasses are amazing. Give your eyes time to rest when they get tired. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you can’t read something, most people are more than understanding. I understand you’re a few years older than me so it’s quite possible you have all this figured out by now. If not, I hope something here can help.
