I use my phone for about 2hrs I'd say. If I had to calculate my entire internet usage (my home computer) we're way over 10. I don't see addition though, I see a capability to grasp information quickly, while staying informed about things in the world. As for kids and tech, I can see that point of view. I try and limit my 5 year olds iPad usage. Though I also take a parental view and watch what she watches and explain to her my view on things, why certain things are bad, and why children shouldn't do them. Knowledge is are our saving grace here, the more you know. Great vid.

As our reliance on digital gadgets grows and has an influence on both our mental health and interpersonal relationships, it is more important than ever to be mindful of phone addiction. It's time to put more emphasis on striking a good balance between using technology and the actual world in order to live more fully in the moment.

16:50 Instagram isn't worth $1.1billion dollars - it's FOUNDER is worth that. The company itself, according to google, is worth $50b

A lot of correlation in this talk not exactly causation. Id imagine there are a LOT of factors at play in these data sets. Although the marathon data was really interesting and highly compelling.

For example those netflix shows. Those are extremely popular shows. Perhaps a great contributor to why 70% of people watch to the end of the season after 2 episodes is because they're just great shows or shows that people for some reason cannot enjoy on TV.

everyone gives Steve Jobs so much credit for his "genius". He was very smart, there is no question about this, but the iPad was a concept that he trashed and said would not sell, that would be an irrelevant appliance before finally seeing the light. Many things at Apple were conceived, invented, designed, engineered and built INSPITE of Jobs, not because of him

I am not convinced you are correct

I agree with the second commentator. Jobs' mind was definitely responsible for the success of his company. Fwiw, 'in spite' is two words.

I don't know about you but I hope my kids will use there phones in the car when I drive them around or in a waiting room etc. because that's how you use your time and get stuff done when you can't really do anything else at the moment. The only time it becomes a problem is when you neglect important things in real life.

Yet what people think is important definitely shifts when multiple platforms are available.

This presentation is slightly poor. Nothing compared to 7 ways games reward the brain. Also the logical leaps are bad for anyone claiming to do research. You can't state that Jobs did not let his kids to use iPads BECAUSE it's addictive. Causation is flimsy. There can be plenty of reasons.

If I'm interested in the subject, I'll listen to anything - if the presenter is well-informed. As for Alter, I think he's fine, but I don't require bells and whistles. Have even sought out other of his talks.

Fairly condescending when you consider you demographics in this manor. Adam may have a thing or two to learn...
