@@flexonthebeat727 I mean dude does seem pretty chill u can acknowledge the good qualities of a person without glorifying what they represent dudes personality is chill that don’t mean I’m praising his life choice
Fab StillSmokin According to his own words, one of the reasons he was seen as a leader is because he didn't do drugs, meaning he could always be trusted to make sound decisions. Listen to 5:55 onward.
OG Turtle wasnt a drug user damn near everyone in the vid of him holding the M14 those guys grandkids are still Santana Blocc to this day and can tell you
Fab StillSmokin yeah they were taught to face there problems and think logical and him being in that ghetto with my father in those times I can only respect him for being head strong guys in the suburbs doing heroin know and never struggled a day in their lives
People will always try to destroy you when you have charisma. I'm willing to bet that's the reason why they killed him. The weak heart is always trying to stomp out your fire.
Fab StillSmokin oh there's no doubt that he was a killer and doing all kinds of wild s***. But there's always a overtone of jealousy when you're on top of anything you're doing this world whether it's negative or positive.
Fun fact: the voiceover at 2:30 is the first British gangster rapper "The Pirus wear red; the crips wear blue Blue jackets, blue trousers, blue laces in their shoe"
Just from a couple of minutes, you know this dude is somebody. Charismatic as hell, and I love his story about not knowing what gangs were. This is who snoop and others are trying to imitate and he just WAS that guy without even trying
Any word on anybody making a film or doc on this mans life? The world needs this. You can tell by his charisma that he's been filmed by his homies during the 80's we need that footage
Dreamer 91 that is big facts , for a nigga to even see 21 is a blessing so the fact that turtle was 24 made him a CERTIFIED OG just by that . 24 is still really young but in gang world 24 is grown as shit
heartbroke man what the fuck is y’all talking about? You ain’t no og just because you 24 yrs old in the hood nigga. OG is a title earned from years of hard work blood sweat and tears. And a whole lot of other shit. Y’all are confused on this internet
Nobody really knows who killed him they suspect the police killed him more the bloods cus his sister said” the amount of blood was the size of a new born baby’s hand he bled from the inside” also before he was killed he was paying the police with drugs and money so that itself suspects a lot leading to his death
Listen to the voiceover @ the end. He says, quite humbly of course, "I don't want to be a leader, but somebody needs to do the thinking..." That's a born-leader right there. RIP quadruple OG Turtle.
this man turtle was cool and down to earth as hell,it's sad he's no lo nger here, he could've been big in the entertainment world man an actor a comic or whatever it's sad...............R.I.P TURTLE
OG Turtle had got killed in 1989 he was born in 1958 he died so young please for all the young people that's in a gang in today's time get out before it's to late peace out.
I know its sad, but how they lived their lives and the decisions they made is why we know of them. Its sad it has to be a negative but thats part of the world. Im 34 and only starting to understand the ups and downs, all part and parcel
neal6473 the Gangsters of today are very fruity and wear skinny jeans 👖 like a women as they use Mumble rap with no meaning with auto tune.. *Men In the 80s were real and had high Testosterone*
I was only in compton a mo th ago. Not huge place but I can only imagine the pressure of defending people you love or your area. Crack came in and turned it extra militant. Your right. If your growing up in it and not moving away there will always be a history to ignite hate. Look at turtle, huge charisma, its a shame
You can tell Turtle was a very charismatic guy who could later in life have gone on to be a very powerful voice for positivity and helping with gang intervention etc..had he not been taken.
This man turtle had the charisma to do so much in life. You’re drawn to him. He didn’t have to act tough, he didn’t look tough, but the way he acts, cool, funny and smart, you want to see more of him and get to like him, unlike people like The Game who TRIES to act tough. RIP
Sad asf story here man. You can see even in the vid he was mentally sharper than virtually everybody around him. Intelligent and had charisma; had he chose to focus on something else other than gang gang, he could've really been something. A great man in film once said, " saddest thing in life is wasted talent".
He felt compelled to be a visionary for his fallen Leader, Bullet. That's the only reason Turtle ended up like this. He clearly had a way out with having two parents. And just didnt want a way out
Just imagine moving to a new state thinking it's gone be better. Then finding out blacks gotta stay in a certain part of the city and then u learn about gangs and then gotta pick a side or get beat by all gangs
@@Edgesofnowhere008having two parents doesn’t even necessitate economic stability. It’s not a guarantee and when people act like it’s guaranteed equation for success, it absolutely isn’t.
WOW! This brotha was definitely a chosen 1! You wouldn't even know homeboy was on some killa shit as funny, charming & intelligent as he was. It's sad he didn't put that energy into something positive. But what can you do in the Ghetto!! It absorbs you!
Growing up in South Central in Crenshaw was much worse than in Compton tho. It was really rough with the gang shit & getting harassed by the police & I'm glad to make it tru all the bullshit in the late 80s & the 90s. LA was no joke. I feel you tho.
Very likeable dude, I like him just watching the video. Very smart, he said he doesn't like being identified as a leader.....very smart, he said he keeps a clear head, no drugs......very smart. He seemed like the kind of gangster that didn't go out looking for trouble but if you brought trouble his way, he'll deal with it. He didn't even wanna kill, he was fine with good ol' fist fighting until guns were used so he had to adapt to the changing times.
OG Turtle....you can tell he was legit and made sure that the homies could roll all night no drink no smoke completely sober he was a leader even if he didn't want to be....
@Joey Illz Sir I must disagree the gang code and ethics is so watered down I laugh when young dudes my age say they bang now you got bloods and crips obsessed with facebook live having gunfights with police and bragging Nipseys homie Cowboy a OG Crip made a video chastising his young G for graffiti its shit like this thats makes me so fuck that gang shit these new niggas do it to boost ego and give not even 1 fuck about loyalty or RESPECT all bc of this social media shit
@@gridebroughamDear Gride Thank You So Much for keeping this film and Turtles story alive. But u need to add my name to credits of this film. Im Peter Cannon i was a young Associate Producer at the time. I found T. One sunny afternoon Sgt Curtis Jackson from Linwood Sheriffs Gang Detail Unit drove me down to Compton and introduced me to Turtle. january 1984. He was on a push bike and his hair in rollers pedalling outside his house. Bored.. Jackson told T. "This guys from england wants to make film about you. Do it. Theyll love you in England. But take care of him alright ? "Turtle and Twin thought a film about them was about right...they were hospitable polite and never threatening. I told the BBC we need to film this guy. Im the guy in the back of the car interviewing T. I was in my 20s then like T. We got on formal awkward reserved but just fine. I wanted his story and he wanted to tell it. We had never met anyone like each other.......from such distant walks of life.......how funny. Sure enough that evening T and his SBloc boys gave us a night to remember. He put on a show. They blocked a freeway exit for 5 minutes....bouncing the car and dancing on the hoods. Un fucking real. Same in a gas station. Dancing on the hood and flat bed music booming from the white TBird. Certainly the air crackled around T. And when that camera was on him ....... a natural on camera like I have never ever seen. The interview was on the way to the rink. The interview was just great...he said so much......and then of course as we arrived at the rink he snapped back into another Turtle full of swagger. Back at the house they pulled out the guns. They were laughing their heads off. Like silly deadly boys. The sound recordist went ballistic afterwards. I thought it was the craziest scene I would ever film. Im 64 now. I will never forget Turtle. Im sorry i lost track of him and was so sorry to hear of his passing. We spoke once after the filming in September 84. I was home in London....the Soviets never arrived for the Olympics....and LA Today ran a story how Soviet TV ran our movie to show what a wild crazy place LA was. Shock horror. We were both young .......we thought it was hysterical and strange that the Russians would see The Tanna. On TV'!!!!!!! And our film was propoganda. Hahaha Fake News !!!!!!! How stupid and crazy we thought. We swapped a couple of Air Mail letters and that was it. . I will never forget that young man. We get old. Fuck it. Thanks again. Peter.
@@petercannon7614 Thank you very much for sharing your story and experience. Also, thank you for a phenomenal and historical video. This rare documentary is like non other. I have given you credit to this video snippet of Turtle and the full video (Gang City) on my channel. Thank you again!
I would pay any amount of money that I have to see a full doc on OG Turtle pleAse somebody make a film on this man. You can hear the way he talks and dresses that he was one of a kind. Truly a real gangsta with charisma of a down south pimp. Rip turtle!
Dat 213 sample playing in da background at the skating rink..... DOPE track. Their version and the original g funk version.💯💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🙏 Much Respect and Salute to all the OGs
Turtle says they are at war with Bloods and then hesitates and says "other" gangs. Doesn't want the viewers knowing that they are killing other crips. Even he thought it was embarrassing and stupid that people from Crip gang are offing each other.
No bro he wanted to say Mexicans but hesitated,. Santana’s didn’t have beef with other crips until 86/87 ,. Go to Kev MAC videos,. He’s legit n confirms it ms valid information
they dont fight over colors they fight over neighborhoods, drugs spots, ect. the crips are many factions suck as neighborhood crips, mafia crips, gangster crips, insane crips, and so on. blood gangs even fight blood gangs. some bloods align with crips to fight other crip or blood gangs
Greg Money I thought MS didn’t come into play until the 80s I had OGs tell me there was a couple black and Mexicans working together until the early 80s
Turtle was murdered in Lynwood, CA in the summer of 1989. I have this documentary. It's called "Gang City" which is from a series of British documentaries called "Real Lives". I only uploaded the section with Turtle. The full documentary is probably about a 1/2 hr long. The remainder of the video has a few short clips with Santana Blocc Compton Crips, Mexican gangs, and a Blood from Tree Top Piru. The program is not really super exciting, but it's good to have for historical reasons. -peace
Every time I look at OG turtle it reminds me of that Dave Chappelle skit when they were talking about the war in the project that was funny. But all jokes aside a real leader. A true motivator .
He balls up ticket wit a dance 😂😂 I love this video it's so real it just shows times haven't changed even the gear he had on Yankee Jacket jeans and loafers..the way he talks etc just seems so modern so today.
@@collinsterry0208 When I was on L.A. I met a family who said they was from Louisiana and came there in the 60s. That's interesting. I met another family who said they were from Mississippi. Southern folk who are overall nice people! Not like the ones here in NYC
Served with this man named Ricky for 3 years in the US Navy,,he was from Chicago and one day I asked him how the hell he had so many scars and wounds on his arms and neck,, turned out Ricky was in a club [gang] in Chicago was stabbed several times and shot a few others, blew me away,, he was a nice guy and a great guy to work with, but you would not want to be on the mans bad side! I had respect for him! We both drank some beers together on occasion too! Imagine a white kid from cow country upstate Ny hanging with a gangster from Chicago!! What a combo we were, wish I had stayed in contact!
