The moment when Ikaika Kahoano leaves the group after being chosen as one of the 5 members of O-Town. This clip is from Season 1 of "Making The Band" (2000).
"Making the Band" was an ABC/MTV reality television series created by Lou Pearlman, the man responsible for the formation of the Backstreet Boys and the early management of *NSYNC. It started on March 25, 2000 on ABC. Pearlman embarked on a nationwide talent search, cutting auditions in eight cities down to 25 young men, and eventually eight finalists. These eight young men would, as the premise for a new ABC reality show, compete for five spots in Pearlman's newest boy band creation named "O-Town", to be signed to his record label, Transcontinental Records. The five guys who became O-Town were: Ashley Parker Angel, Jacob Underwood, Dan Miller, Erik-Michael Estrada and Trevor Penick.

@JorgeReyes-mq6le Pearlman swindled money from the groups he formed. Backstreet, NSYNC, and O-Town have said as much. He died in prison because he was apart of a ponzy scheme.

Looking back at this after watching “The Boy Band Con” documentary. Ikaika was probably the first, smart, and lucky guy to leave Lou Pearlman. He noticed the 1/6 contract, lawyers, and Lou’s true color.

@@kursk_kuku141 I'm so glad that documentary exists. I knew already what happened prettymuch, even the situation with Ikaika. It's disturbing but i always wanted to know more about that. The best would have been if Ikaika was interviewed In the Doc but I also understand he just want to forget all about it.

There was a reason why Ikaika left the group and his big brother never left his side, clearly a reason linked with Lou Pearlman that would never have been aired anyway. Lou was nasty.

And then O Town got it’s main singer. I perfectly remember watching this as a kid and when Dan came in the whole felling and sound became way more fluid and fresh.

There were 2 good reasons to leave the band. First one was the contract. 1 episode earlier jacob mentioned that his lawyer said something like, you gonna regret it if you sign this contract. He signed it anyway. The second reason is, two or three episodes earlier lou took ikaika beside and said something like "you're my guy. you're the special/chosen one."

The reason why he left was because of the shady contract Lou wanted to give him. At the time everybody thought he is weird and stupid for going but he did the right thing

@@BlueJWay999 But at the time, they didn't know if they were gonna be famous for 15 minutes or be the next N*Sync/Backstreet Boys. Those boybands made millions and were able to eventually get out of their deal with Lou. Ikaika might have regretted leaving if O-Town became that big.

God, this first season was absolutely amazing. One of my favorite reality shows of all time. Smart Ikaika for seeing what a mess JabbaLou was/is.

I remember watching this T-T gosh how I miss those days, Ikaika was my favorite I was kind of sad because of his leaving but at the same time I really could understand why he did it.

Search for o-town making the band season 1 and go to episode 17: at the end of part 1 or maybe part 2 (the episodes are divided in 3 parts) you can see Lou that knocks at Ikaika's room door, and then the cameras turn off. He decided to stay, and after that he left. That's when all happened. I don't think it's a coincidence.

smarted one out of the group tbh. What they should have done is got a lawyer to explain the contracts they were getting into, come together as a group and demand better conditions. Years later they realized they were making no money had less than ideal working conditions and wanted out. Ikaika's brother may have sounded funny, but he sure was right.

There was this other guy too, Mark I think, when they were still deciding who was going to make the final group. He left too and I think he would have made into the final group. Probably found something out about Lou's buisness among other things

He most likely left due to something that happened between him and Lou Pearlman. However, when that public relations guy told them that due to the lack of privacy they were about to start having, they probably wouldn't keep their girlfriends, I could see Ikaika figuratively eyeing the exit.

I always wondered if he left because fat Lou came on to him. I thought it was odd how his brother really seemed like his protector. And I often wondered if fat Lou paid them hush money. Ikaika was a good looking guy, lou liked the pretty boys.

That's been 100% confirmed to be the reason he left the group. If you watch the episodes in sequence you can see that. Lou propositioned him to "live with him" somewhere between episodes. That's when he left.
