You left off Lake Merritt, the rooftop gardens at 1 Kaiser Plaza, and the nightlife of Uptown. Oakland is an amazing, beautiful city that is coming back to life. Proud to call her home my entire life.
No way! 😂😂😂 maybe North and the Hills... But not Oakland complete... 😂😂😂 drive down international Blvd... Looks nothing Like That ! Go by the stadiums... Carry a gun! 😂😂😂
@@ny2bama : Racist much? Jack London Square, Downtown-Uptown, and Piedmont Ave are NOT in "North" and the "Hills." You're very ignorant and not a little stupid. All racists are.
I can say 24hrs it’s not enough time to explore oakland, but it’s nice to see someone giving a positive view of Oakland, but honestly I do love Oakland and even though I want to say thank for this positive view of Oakland, I have to say it did bother me that you forgot a lot of good things. Oakland its an amazing city, with a lot to offer. Lake Merritt, is one of the most popular places you forgot but there is more anyways ... Thank you to give a good review about my city! Highly appreciated
@California Through My Lens ... also, if you are a bit daring ... check out Eli’s Mile High Club in West Oakland ... one of the oldest Blues joints in Oakland ... if it’s a bit too scary for you, try Everett & Jones BBQ at Jack London Square Area ... pretty decent blues there on a weekend too (Dotha’s Club ... attached to the restaurant)
Thats cuz most Oaklanders dont eat that yuppie hipster crap.. We all go out to San Leandro to Harrys Hof Brau then sing Karaoke at some tweaker bar in Hayward Then end up in a sideshow at Eastmont mall...
Born and raised in SF spent a great deal of time in OAK in my Teens and never knew of these super cool spots you pointed out. Will certainly check them out now! Thanks
In 1980 I jumped on the Greyhound bus from Seattle to L.A. after visiting Jimi's graveside at the Renton Cemetery, met his dad Al,Jimi is huge in Scotland btw. After a fairly long drive our bus stopped in Oakland and only lasted 10 minutes to change driver, I doubt if I've ever been in such a cleaner city on earth and I'd love to visit the place some day soon. Got a cuz who lives there so if I make it tgen I will definitely be checking out a good few of the pre-mentioned joints, thanks for posting guys.✌
Very good job of showing Oakland. Certainly, that’s not all of Oakland, but u have covered some good spots, Jack London Square, & Redwood Regional Park
Decent video. Would definitely recommend Lake Merritt across the street from the "Cathedral of Christ the Light". It's the center of the "The Town" as we call it. It's a relaxing 3.5 mile walk and some great people watching. Check out the Fruitvale district also. The best Mexican food along with a cool spot called East Bay Koi. It's an urban Japanese Koi fish store with thousands of Japanese Koi fish.
I've lived and worked in Oakland for the last 3 years and you guys did a great job with this. Some of these things like Grizzly Peak and Heinhold's are, like, the first things I take friends to see who come from out of town.
Great job......Oakland here (20 yrs) All good suggestions...and more! No more Brown Sugars though ......and no one ever mentions the WEATHER (well except us locals) 10 months of 55° to 70° everyday
I really enjoy all of your videos and come for ideas on California road trips. My grandparents and parents grew up in Oakland and I lived there for 7 years. If I were to recommend things to people coming to visit, I would have done all of the ones you did. Great to see Shan Dong made the video along with the cemeteries and our favorite trail in Redwood Regional. Thanks for the videos!
Wow what a lot of cool places! I have a few boat friends that live near Jack London Square that keep inviting us to visit - after seeing this I might just do that! Love all of your food recommendations too and yes, I could tell you like food 😂
Lovely video. Suggestion: Next time, check out tony Montclair Village for its boutiques and highly rated restaurants (Asian-French Pearl and Thai Daughter, etc.), not to mention large, beautiful woodsy retreats and mansions overlooking the shopping district ; Lake Merritt park, along with the rakish eateries along its shore (Lake Chalet, Side Bar, Grand Lake Kitchen, etc.); Grand Lake/Lake Shore for their mix of "New" and "Old" Oakland shops and boutiques, not to mention excellent restaurants (Shakewell, Bardo, Sisters, Oak and Almond, etc.): And there are four big misses: 1. Downtown-Uptown's FIRST FRIDAY: Dude. This is the coolest, hippest community art phreakout on the Planet. Even the NYTimes and Art News are suitably impressed 2. Rockridge--Portlandia-by-the-Bay of insufferably charming craftsman homes, groundbreaking restaurants, funky eateries and bars, book stores, cafes, bakeries, the works. And the Oakland Hills nabe of Upper Rockridge/Claremont Pines looms close by, a wealthy Oakland nabe of mansions, estates, and large homes 3. Joaquin Miller/Sibley Redwood Parks--hiking, camping, fishing, even, among beautiful redwood forests in the Oakland hills, and all within Oakland city limits. Wild. 4. Oakland Zoo: the new and innovative, mountainside California Trail, with its open spaces for California wildlife (cougars, jaguars, bears, condors, wolves, etc.) reached by gondola, is amazing--along with the older section's outdoor environment's for lions, tigers, humpty back camels, and dofus bears. 5. Oakland Museum, Friday Nights--Art, history AND gourmet food trucks, live bands: so typically Oakland cool. Etc., etc... Check 'em out. Oakland is a city on the rise, and justifiably NYTimes' and LATimes- designated "Brooklyn by the Bay" and "Hipster Haven" for multiracial Millennials. But it's a lot more, too. And this vid's a great start.
Thanks for providing a glimpse of Oakland, others may criticize, but at least you did something worthwhile instead of sitting around like your critics.
Nice video however you didn’t cover, Lake Merritt, Home of Chicken and Waffles, Warriors, A’s and Raiders games. Nice lookout spots with fantastic views of the city you covered!
Hello! Thanks for this awesome video! There are three TASTY new restaurants down at Jack London Square including BelCampo Meats, Dyafa and Farmhouse Kitchen. Hope you will come try it soon. Stay awesome. #iloveOakland
This was a pretty decent list except you missed Lake Merritt (Hello? Best part of town!), Oakland’s best dive bar aka Heart and Dagger, the historic Grand Lake Theatre where you can see a cheap movie on weekdays, the taco trucks and last but not least the art/nightlife scene in downtown oakland.
I love the video. I will be checking out more than a few of your suggestions. I'm not asking, I'm telling you, do an "Oakland in 24hrs Pt II" :) ...please.
I personally think this vlog did a terrible job of showing off Oakland. What about Telegraph ave, the 3 sports team, the view of the bay from behind UC Berkeley, first Friday’s, lake Merritt and all of the brunch spots, the warriors practice facility behind the Marriott, what about the restaurants by the Marriott, the food sports around fruitvale station. Also, everyone know the best tacos are the tacos from the truck by lake Merritt late at night.
You have a point, but they were only in Oakland for 2 days. First Friday happens once a month and sometimes it gets cancelled. The one knock is that they spent too much time in the Jack London area. There's no excuse for not mentioning Lake Merritt when they were right across street at the Cathedral.
So pretty much just hang out at Jack London square, go to church and a cemetary..... not feeling this review as I live in Oakland and I believe there are better options than this.
Did you car get broken into? Or did you get robbed? Hear any gun shoots? Or visit any of the homeless encamp, meats? You mixed out on some of the best Oakland experiences.
Um........you left out the Oakland Museum, Oracle Arena, A's stadium, Oakland zoo, Children's fairyland, and lake Merritt. It's also cool to take the ferry
Great video and recommendations! Just earned a new Subsriber! Wow the “out and in” pizza looks so good, yum. I was just in Oakland, vlog in my channel for more tips!
Hmmmm nothing negative? Must not be the Oakland California everybody else knows. And that’s the truth. Yes. I know this will be deleted because the truth hurts.
