A group has launched a recall effort for Mayor Sheng Thao just one week after an Oakland police officer was killed in the line of duty. They say the mayor has failed to control crime and that the city needs new leadership.

I'm confused, they do arrest those trash but the issue is the Judges who let them go. How does a Mayor have any say or power to tell a Judge to do thier job? This seems more of a judge and DA issue and nothing that a mayor can do unless she has the power to tell judges they must give a minimum sentence to criminals for certain crimes.

Today's people only think of recall to solve their social issues. Yes, the Mayor is a person to complain but recall is not and will not solve the problem. I would recommend that all citizens in their constituent need to be patient and will be elected a new leader when her term is up if the city's problem is not solved. It's too much burden on the city budget and dealing with unnecessary activities.

I heard those who attempted to file recall blaming mayor fired police chief. That's the first approaching to solve chronic crimes in the city, she has to take action to remove policechief first. We don't know how long that police chief has been there and couldn't reduce crime. Second, she needs to search for the best police chief to replace him. Those who wasted time to recall, why not just come together as taskforce to search for a new police chief who has the ability to combat crimes? Those are the best solutions for all in Oakland.

All people need to come together to support each other instead of just bring down a person. Instead of blaming the mayor to do her job, the whole community has to come together. I believe no mayor can do the work alone for the community if the issue is causing by the people in the community. No previous Mayors could solve these criminal acts and no current or future Mayors will be able to solve these issues. Good luck with looking for a new mayor. If you're not happy, move out to a different city or state with fewer crimes. It's not the mayor's fault. It's the people who voted for her. Look at our president. Inflation is crazy and nothing has not been fixed. I was at fault voting for the wrong person. 😕 At the end, you just got to do your best for your family. Don't worry about other people's issues because all the politicians they don't even know who you are.

Lol Give her time? It's Oakland. Time is the one thing they don't have. Maybe a small town municipality where crime is low, sure. But any mayor who steps up to the plate better be ready to make hay while the sun shines. She's just spinning her wheels. I think the people of Oaktown would be more willing to forgive her if she made some missteps because at least she'd be trying. The way things are now, though. It just looks like she's spinning her wheels. Can't fire a police chief without lining someone else up to take his place. Just pure folly from when she stepped into the office.

It’s the people in that city that don’t care about their own community, but of course, so much easier to blame the mayor. What are they doing other than petitioning against a mayor for the community? Have they gone out there to help the homelessness? Have they tried reporting crimes happening in broad daylight? No. Of course, they’ll say, it’s not our job. I guess, it’s easier for everyone to complain.

You can recall fhe next mayor..the next one...The next Mayor will also be recalled and replaced. The problem is not the mayor. It is the entire criminal justice. Just admit it. Criminals and drugs rule Oakland. Period.

It is very easy to blame someone else such as city government. But the reality is city government officals don't have unlimited resources and cannot do whatever they want to do. Their hands are tied by laws. ON THE OTHER HAND, at home PARENTS and GRANDPARENTS can teach their children HOW to grow up to be a respectful, responsible, and aw-abiding citizen. Look at the Japanese and learn from their cultures. Robberies are recorded at 1.2 incidents per 100,000 people in Japan versus 81.4 in the U.S.

Fix your own kids, quit blaming society and officials. Nobody is gonna change your oakland culture it all start from the parents. Teach them drugs are bad, and what is consider a crime they should never do, like god damn people, where is the common sense? This is 2024 are we still this stupid? Do I have to bring my 5 year old kid to tell these grown adults whats right and wrong? Fix your own kids quit blaming anybody if anything blame yourself for not bringing up your kids correctly.
