A preview of a pre-development design for the clockwork adversaries in the upcoming Oath expansion. LINK to Liz's video: • Oath: Clockwork Advers... LINK to the Kickstarter: www.kickstarter.com/projects/...
at first I scoffed at the idea of a cooperative Oath, but the Queen of Shadows is really fascinating. Love hearing how your ideas and tug at and play with the fabric of Cole's game. Your JoCo2e solo is the best solo expression of a non-solo-only game that I've seen
Wow... as someone who is new to & super interested in your work & style, this was wicked awesome! Thank you guys for all your hard work! Jeez this looks amazing right from the get go. Thank you for taking us through a turn! Liz & Ricky, you rule!
This was the highlight of the Kickstarter for me. My partner and I had a ton of fun playing a friend's copy of Oath, but I couldn't justify getting my own copy of a game we'd never play 2-player. So now I'm all-in, and I'll be keeping a close eye on the Discord for any playtests. Also, *very* hopeful that co-op works out! It will probably increase our play count 10x compared to 2-player-competitive w/ bots.
Food for thoughts here (and maybe you already thinked about it....) : as we've noticed in this video, the servant automa would gain in efficiency if it was able to prioritize which relics to steal (or even destroy/hide it in a stash somewhere when it doesnt want it in the game?). Instead of going for big charts (really love GMT for solo, but I totally gets thats its not for everyone), why not include little numbered stickers in the extension, to stick on relic's card? So, when the automa go afterx your relics, it would aim the higher/lower number. They could even be colored to figure what the automa would do with the relics (keep it or... figure how to throw it in mount doom!) Anyway, great job so far! Backed this kickstarter as soon as I seen your name involved... Liz acting as the icing on the cake!
interesting... which game/games use the boosted action in this way to scale up their automata? It would be great to look at those and appreciate how they implemented the same idea. Or are you just saying you've seen solo modes with automa decks before?
off topic: Please do a solo AI opponent for Pax Renaissance. Like u did for Pax Pamir maybe. Launch a Kickstarter for it and i definitely would back it up :-) Its such an awesome game but the solo section is c......ap
I do have Pax Ren, and it's a game I want to solo more. I think the solo mode works fine - it's just a different model than perhaps soloists are used to now; in that it uses a unique idea of setting theoretical objectives for the automated opponent, but asks that the soloist does the job of actually choosing what the opponent does to achieve those objectives. So, to this extent, it is not really an "automated" opponent as we might have gotten used to from other solo games we experience these days. It is an interesting approach, but one I have not yet had the time to fully explore.
it's certainly on the list of possibilities; but not our TOP priority (top priorities are: solo, 2-player, co-op, and an automated opponent to replace a player)
we will be sure to look at this option. As it goes, the automated opponent could work to replace 1 or many players; but whether that would require additional components (e.g. more than one deck or more than one set of mood cards) is the issue, and whether additional sets would be economically viable; but we will certainly be looking at it.
I don’t like backing games anymore that aren’t already fleshed out. I’ve been burnt twice already by half baked games that turned out mediocre plus one that after 3 years I still don’t have. So for me it’s a pass.
that's fair - we are very early in development; I've never known a game start design and development fully formed, so yes, there is work to be done. Leder and Cole Wehrle, the designer, have a great track record though, and games will only get better with more development. But absolutely, you do not have to back now: the game will find a place on store shelves.
I understand you completely. Me personnaly, I'm convinced, that this will be a great Solo mode; Ricky did a great Job with the Solomodes for Pax Pamir and John Company.
On the one hand that's totally understandable. On the other hand, every time I've thought this about a Cole/Leder game, I've been gravely wrong. I'm now in hardcore regret for not backing Arcs, seeing the other people getting their hands on it, and having now played 3 games myself on TTS. I have a copy coming but it'll be a lot longer now, and I'll always know I didn't believe in it when it mattered. Last time ever I doubt this studio/designer combo. As I said on BGG, these people are eminently trustworthy.
