You “didn’t like it...like it was full of meaning...” I mean, I get it. Oathbreaker are an avant-garde combination between black metal and hardcore. It’s like if I recommended So Hideous. Your subscribers clearly are giving you suggestions they shouldn’t. (Full disclosure: Rheia was one on my top 10 albums of 2016.) I get them, but I also understand why people don’t. Thank you for giving it a chance though.
I mean, I get what you mean, but I find the composition to be quite beautiful. Sure, not everyone enjoys screaming, but the combination of everything in the song is surprisingly honest and beautiful.
I get why you wouldn't like it, it is not everyone's cup of tea, but I have to disagree with one point you mentioned, you said it has no meaning. It is not true, it has a lot of meaning especially for her. The pure essence of her dark relationship with her father came up in that album. I don't think she would've been able to process whatever she has been through if it weren't for the lyrical, vocal and (art studenty) arty output. I think it was full of meaning, but, I understand how hard it could be to appreciate heavy music when you are really not into ''extreme'' metal
I appreciate the honesty man. I happen to find her vocals a bit different and refreshing for me. The instrumentals themselves remind me a bit of Amenra/Deafheaven tbh.
Personally I think that Deafheaven's versatile melodic characteristics are focusing on a specific "sense", but oathbreaker always had a set of CHORUS, everything in their song are around this set...
Wow, going back 5 years to see this review, I've never felt like disagreeing with you so hard and felt a little like you gave barely any credit to the song. To hear that "it had no meaning" just instantly tells me you had no intentions to like anything at all the instant it started. It has meaning, a very personal and deep one. Amazes me that you flat out just called this fully pretentious in longer words. I get that we have our tastes and likes and dislikes, but to completely disregard a song because you felt it was basically too edgy for you or too pretentious because it is not in your wheelhouse, its just very wrong. Gave no reasons why it was that, nothing, just "I dont appreciate this because I havent done any drugs recently". Damn.

You should definetly check out the band/project Ayreon. When you are looking for a "quick and easy" song you should listen to Run! I've known Ayreon for many years but you can't use their songs, there are too many famous people on them to sort out the rights so they aren't allowed on RU-vid and get taken down.
I'm not familiar with Mortichnia, but I can tell about Mgla, Akhlys and Schammash that none of them do the same thing Oathbreaker does. Very different approaches, I don't know what this guy was on. Black metal isn't all the same, you know.
They are not the same nor they are trying to be. I think the main thing you are missing in here is that they emerged from the Belgian hardcore scene. If you listen to their previous albums you will further understand the journey their sounds has taken to get here. Just because it is (blackened) it doesnt mean it is black metal. This is a hardcore punk band that has taken influence from shoegaze, post-metal, black metal and doom. Also the rest of the album is very different from these two tracks, I hope you listen to it in its entirety and reconsider
