Youe said and explained everything so well thank you. I have been using obagi too for over a decade now and I’m 38 years old and people always think I’m 28. Heheh thanks to obagi
I've used Obagi since 2003 on my face, neck and decolletage, but avoid applying product to my eyelids and the sides of my mouth/nostrils. I also rub any excess on the back of my hands. After the initial 6-8 weeks of peeling, my skin looked great and I migrated to a maintenance mode. California sun is unforgiving to my fair skin and green eyes, so I also apply sunscreen like a second skin, wear sunglasses/large brimmed hats when outdoors for long periods and use gloves when driving. Like you, I wasn't a fan of the original sunscreen and didn't even exhaust the original tube. The new Sun Shield Matte 50 SPF however is a winner. It serves as a primer under my foundation and have even given it as a gift to friends and colleagues. At 5:06 you say that you'll discuss running out of one product faster than others but I don't see where in the video you do so. I assume you're referring to Clear (3) since Obagi protocol calls for its use twice a day, but it's not dispensed in a relatively larger quantity like the other AM/PM products. I stopped using Clear at PM after a couple of years. As such, I follow AM: 1, 2, 3, 4, & sunscreen; PM: 1, 2, 5 & Tretinoin. Around 2010, I added Obagi Prof C-Serum 20% to my PM protocol. I don't add any lotion or moisturizer. Years ago, I purchased a small plastic tote with three sections so I'm able to segregate respective AM/PM, AM and PM products (skincare auto-pilot). I also keep the tote basket in a refrigerator so the products don't break down. Thank you for an excellent video. Obagi is a marvelous system and I wouldn't dream of changing to another protocol. Your skin is amazing so you're a wonderful spokesperson for the regimen. Do you recommend using hydration around the eyes? Is so, what product do you suggest?
Cool CPA what great feedback! I agree with everything you say...including that I never got back to running out of products at different times and I did mean #3 Clear. So nice that you can buy the products individually for this reason. If someone has difficulty with the dryness near the nostrils and corners do the mouth a helpful tip can be to apply the Hydrate to those areas first creating a little protection. For the eyes, it sounds like you haven’t tried the Elastiderm eye cream yet! You must try. Excellent for upper and lower lids and apply am and pm! Please let me know what you think and share any other tips you may have with all of your experience. Thanks again Cool CPA!
@@juliesilver9815 Hi Julie. Thanks for the prompt response. I tend to be very loyal to Obagi since I can always count on results. I'll give Elastiderm a try and keep you posted. Thanks again.
@@juliesilver9815 Hi there. You caught me while I'm online. I hope you are safe and well. It's been about a year since I added Elastiderm Eye Cream to my routine. It's very nice - not too thick, greasy or heavily scented. Hard to tell if it's making a difference in only a year, but the skin does appear a bit rejuvenated. I'm enjoying the process so thank you for the Pro Tip. What are your thoughts about Elastiderm Eye Serum with the roller ball applicator? I'm wondering if it would be a good alternative for morning application under cosmetics since it's a serum rather than a cream.
Lol, talk about getting your money worth! she is ace! I love the trick she gives about the toner in the spritz bottle, never thought of that one and not only that the hand's tip as well... can't wait for my products to come so will definitely be using it like this
I tried one product for under my eyes and it made them so red but I know this is great skincare and I want to try other products. Thanks for your video. I am so happy I found your channel today and I really look forward to supporting you and following you. Have a great day!
UnBoxIt with Maureen McD Hello! Thanks for joining us! Did you use the Elastiderm eye cream? Did it make your eye irritated or under eye red? Let is know if we can help. Thanks!
Hi, first video I haven't had to skip. Brilliantly explained. Short and concise. I loved your video and hope you do more. I got my set today. Is it OK for seborrhoeic dermatitis?
Great description of all the products. I don’t suffer at all from acne ,only dry skin. I do use tretinoin o.o5. Would that Rx system still be suitable for me. ?
Thank you for such a detailed video! It helped me understand the blender and tretinoin better! I've been using this system for 3 weeks now and see a huge difference! The instructions in the tretinoin say to wait 20-30 minutes after washing before applying. Do you suggest that wait time as well? For the awkward drying/peeling like a snake you mention, can we do any exfoliation on occasion or should we avoid that? Your skin is really beautiful!
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you’re seeing results already 😀 You can apply the tretinoin sooner than that but we do like to make sure our face is entirely dry! We don’t recommend any extra exfoliating as you can accidentally irritate you’re skin further. Best of luck!
Thank you for the awesome video! I just purchased the nuderm system today and your video really helped! You have great hair! My curls are similar, but the older I get the flatter they are becoming. What hair products do you use? Thanks!
Hi, love this video! Thank you. I have been using the obgagi system for 2 weeks now and have not noticed any skin flaking, is this normal? I am also not using the tretinoin is it okay to use without?
Thank you very much for the great instructions. I bought the kit from my dermatologist and they did not give me instructions. Needed to find you. Very happy I did. I do have a question. I was sold also the TNS Advanced Serum that you use AM and PM. How or when do I use that product with my Obagi kit? Before my sunscreen? Thank you!
Hi there @ Healthy Glow , i am now at week 8 . I am at the point of wanting to give up , the redness and dryness is endless and i feel that my skin has deteriorated in the way that it looks so parched and red all the time . I have cut down on the Exfoderm and the Retrieve and using them on alternate days but even this is not helping . Can you offer any advice ? Really would love some help and advice .
Hello Julie, I started using the Obagi Nu Derm system in April this year, advised by the salon I went to. I live in the UK and I am 76. I am very pleased with the results - my skin is much clearer and fine lines gone. I contacted the salon after 20 weeks to discuss how I carry on. However, I didn’t receive much clarity from them. I read one of your comments stating that there’s no need to use the products every day now. Having been really disciplined with the products I really don’t want to buy anything different because I have been very pleased! So, please can you tell me how I now manage my skin am and pm? What do I use? I like the products and don’t want to spend money on other more expensive items! Sorry this is so long! Many thanks, Sandy
Hi Sandy! I am so glad you've had great results! In your case then I'd recommend just using them less often. You can do steps #3 & #5 (and a retin-A if you use one) just every 2nd or 3rd day. Continue with the cleanser, #4 and spa every day though. This is where you can play around and really see what works for you! We also suggest using a Vitamin-C serum if you don't already have one! I hope that helps :)
Thank you for your prompt reply, Julie! May I just go over it with you please? Sorry! I am using the Nu Derm System with 0.1 Tretinoin. So every 2nd or 3rd day you suggest using Clear and Hydrate. Then in the evening would I use Blender with Tretinoin, plus Clear and Hydrate? You said I’m to continue with the Cleanser, the Blender and spa - I’m afraid I don’t know what Spa is! I haven’t any vitamin c serum - when would I use that please? Thank you and apologies! Sandy
@@sandyallen5062 Hi Sandy! Oops I meant to say SPF! :) Sorry about that! Yes, I would start only using Clear and Blender (even the tretinoin) every 2 or 3 days. Continue with your cleanser, hydrate and sunscreen every day though. For the Vitamin C I would start with the Obagi Professional C Serum 10% and use this after your toner if you use one. If you don't use a toner it goes on right after your cleanser. This is used in the AM and I would use this every day!
Very informative video. I have a question… are these products safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding? The obagi website says to consult with a physician.
Hi Katie! Thanks for taking the time to watch our video! We do not recommend using the Obagi Nu Derm Rx products during pregnancy or breast feeding. You can use the cleanser, toner, and moisturizer but other than that we do recommend waiting. Hope that helps!
Hi thanks for the explanation, i have been using Obagi nu derm as well for 5 years now, but every time I finish one set I changed to other brand with no hydroquinone for like one month or so because I heard it’s not good to use hydroquinone consecutively. But is this true? Have you been alternating as well all the 16 years using Obagi. Thank you, you have amazing glowing skin!
Hello! With Obagi only containing 4% hydroquinone, it does not fall under that category. When products contain 8% or more hydroquinone and that is when you run higher risks of ochronosis (blue/black discoloration of skin). I have been using Obagi consistently for 16 years but have gone on a maintenance program meaning I do not use every product every day. I alternate with DefenAge. Once you finish a set I would go to a maintenance level so you don't lose any of the progress you have made. Let me know if you need any assistance with a maintenance program! Take care!
You make the best videos! Sorry for all the questions. Since starting the Nu Derm system, I'm wondering if I'm able to continue my monthly .5 microneedling at home to boost collagen? Or is that a bad idea?
Thank you for such detailed information. How long do you use this whole system. I understand that it takes a while to see dark spots fade and skin to look overall clear but would you use this long term in the same manner to keep skin looking good?
Hi Kristen! You would use the entire system every day for 6months. You can continue to use all products every day until you reach a point where you are satisfied with your results. Then we would say go to a maintenance plan. This may include taking out step 3-5 and just doing these every other day or every 3rd day. This will be something that is different for everyone, but those are usually the guidelines we provide our patients with.
I have used Obagi on and off for over 10 years. I'm a little confused. Did I see that in this video Step 5 and Step 6 were both Hydrate for A.M. And, I want to compliment you that this is the best explanation I have seen on using the Obagi product. Lately, as a mature woman, I've been trying to figure out what system I really need. There is SO much being discussed on You Tube. Your video reminded me to stick with a "simple" proven and uncomplicated routine. Thank you . Hope to hear more from you.
Hi Diane, it's great to hear you already use it, such a wonderful product! Yes that would be correct. Step 5 at night is Blender and that is not used in the morning. Hydrate is not necessary but there for those that need the extra hydration. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
Great Video! I recently started using the Nu Derm System for hyperpigmentation but was not prescribed tretinoin, will I see any results? What would you recommend? Thank you
You will see results, but if possible, see if your Physician recommends and can prescribe the Tretinoin. If not, we would recommend adding the Retinol 1.0 that is not Rx. Let me know if you have any other questions, Thanks!
Great detailed video. Am about to start this over in the UK. I understand the clear is AM and PM, and the blender is PM only and also they both work in different ways to tackle dermal and superficial melasma, but why would u need to apply both the clear and blender in the evening if they both contain hydroquinone, isnt that just too much hydroquinone to be using on the skin at the same time!
Hi! Thanks for watching! The products work so well together that it’s been created to work with that routine of AM & PM. All of the before and afters by Obagi are done with using the system that way so we like to suggest using it as they’ve prescribed. Hope that helps!
@@HealthyGlow Thank you for replying. I have been using for 3 days now and my skin is so red and sensitive. Can you recommend a product I can use to help with this?
@@tashal8879 hi! It’s normal to have some redness and discomfort. Make sure to use Hydrate in the AM and PM! If it’s too uncomfortable contact your physician that prescribed it to make sure they know and they can guide you as well. Best of luck!
Hi Julie! I started the nuderm system a week ago and I have a few questions after watching your video! - do I have to let the toner dry completely before applying the clear? - I started peeling by day 4. When will the peeling end? If I have an event to go to will I be able to wear foundation etc at the end of the 18 weeks? - after the 18 weeks are completed what do I do? How do I maintain? - and lastly, I heard if you use hydroquinone nonstop it can make your melasma worse! Is this true? Sorry for my 21 questions ;) loved your video! Very helpful and appreciated!
Hello and thank you for your questions! -Yes, let the toner dry a bit before applying -The peeling is different for every one but it will start to subside as your skin gets a little more used to these products. I'd say after week 4 you should be good to go with little to no peeling. -After the 18 weeks we recommended modifying the regimen by using the products every other day/night or every 3rd day. Enough to keep your results where you like them. Some people continue on without slowing down. -At 4% hydroquinone usage we have not heard that to be true. We always suggest doing your own research as well though :)
Hi I just discovered this and bought the products. Very helpful video! Can you tell me if I can use a normal makeup remover before using the gentle cleanser at night?
Go for it! It can feel a little daunting at first with what your skin goes thru, but the end result is amazing! Let us know if you have any questions :)
Hi. Really helpful video. Thanks. Just wanted to know if i'm ok to use a eye cream at night after i've applied the final stage of the the nu-derm regime which is the tretinoin mixed with the blender. I currently use Obagi ELASTIderm Eye Complete Complex Serum in the mornings but i was reluctant to use it at night as i apply the tretinoin/blender mix under my eye area and didn't want any sort of clash that might impact on the effectiveness of the product. Thanks.
You can definitely still use the Eye Serum! I like to apply mine first and then complete the rest of the regimen so I am not moving anything else up closer towards the eye. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@@HealthyGlow Thank you for that advice. If i was to use the Obagi Elastiderm Eye cream instead of the serum at night would you still recommend applying that after cleansing ad toning but before applying the clear and blender? Thank you again
Thank you for explaining this product. I have a question regarding the sun screen. I understand it’s important to apply the sunscreen before going outside, but would it be okay if I am inside all day and then I apply the sunscreen 15 minutes until I go outside? Can I use make while using the Obagi products?
Yes, you can apply 15 minutes before. And if you already applied earlier in the day, it's also wise to apple again before leaving the house. Hope this helps!
Hello! The system itself will help with fine lines, aging and you may see some changes with pore size. It leaves the skin with overall brighter and youthful skin!
Hi Lynn! I can see how that is confusing! When using this in the morning it will become your step 5, in the evening it is labeled at step 6 but technically is still step 5 :) AM: #1 Cleanser #2 Toner #3 Clear #4 Exfoderm/Exfoderm Forte Step #5 but labeled as #6 Hydrate PM #1 Cleanser #2 Toner #3 Clear (skip labeled #4 which is exform) #5 Blender mixed with Tretinoin #6 Hydrate. I hope this helps!
Hi Nevea, I would get the acne/rosacea under control first under the guidance of your dermatologist before incorporating any of the Obagi Nuderm system products. Often times azeleic acid will be used with success for fungal acne/rosacea but you may need an antibiotic, as well.
Hi there , really enjoyed this video and the little tips you gave . I have a question for you ..... how long does the redness , peeling and warm sort of burning feeling last for ? I have just completed week 1 and quite red and flaky ...... is this normal or might it be too aggressive for me ?
Hi Margaret! That is very normal at this stage. We see the irritation die down week after week, around week 6 this should be done. Keep in mind Obagi works in 4 phases, Phase 1(week 1- week 6) is where the top layer of the skin is being exfoliated, removing dull, old skin cells to help promote new skin cells. Keep with it!
Hi, I was prescribed the Clenziderm foaming cleanser, Pore Therapy, Therapeutic lotion (BPO), as well as Nu Derm Clear, Nu Derm Blender and Tretinoin.025%. Can I do... Day 1 AM-Cleanser, Pore therapy, Therapeutic lotion, sunscreen??? PM-Cleanser, Pore therapy, ??? Day 2 AM-Cleanser, Pore therapy, Nu derm clear, sunscreen PM-Cleanser, Pore therapy, Nu derm blender + tretinoin ...and alternate routine each day? Can you please assist in the correct order of use or what may need to be adjusted? Thanks.
Thank you so much for a very clear breakdown! I have a question… I am currently using the Nu-Derm system, but I also have the Clenziderm MD system. Am I able to use both systems concurrently or should I alternate days? When can I apply the benzoyl product within the Nu-Derm system ?
Hi Justin! First, we do always recommend consulting with your physician. If you are new to the Nu-Derm system we would recommend waiting to use the Clenziderm until your skin has gone through the transitional phases. If you are past that, you can use the cleanser in place of the Foaming gel and the Pore therapy in place of the Toner. For the Therapeutic Lotion, I would start out by using this in the evenings only first (almost as a spot treatment, if you only have spots to correct). Put this on after your Pore Therapy and then continue with the following Nu-Derm steps. You can start incorporating the Clenziderm in just the evenings first to see how your skin reacts. Best of luck!
@@HealthyGlow Thank you so much for the detailed response. I’ve taken your suggestion and have had some phenomenal results! I’m also going to consult my dermatologist as well to see what he thinks but thanks again !
Pranita, the Nu-Derm system is directed towards men and women who have dyschromia, or irregular pigment issues. There are 2 kits - normal to oily and normal to dry. Not included in the system is either a retinoid, a retinaldehyde or a retinol which we always help guide our patients with picking the best for their skin type. Hope this helps! 😀
Hi Sophie! Parabens have been a sorce of concern since 1984. The safety continues to be researched and there is no evidence of any negative health risks. It is to protect your products from harmful bacteria and mold, and once applied it is quickly broken down and does not accumulate in the body. Hope this helps ease your concerns!
Hi I have the Exfoderm skin smoothing lotion I believe mine has expired is not a lotion it's very watery I don't want to use it just got it a few days ago what is the consistency please.
How many nights would you recommend we use the Tretinoin please? For hyperpigmentation, scarring & acne? ALSO on the nights that we do not use the Tretinoin do we still use the number 5 blender?
If you are new to Tretinoin, you can space it out by using it every other day. Eventually getting to every night use. When not using tretinoin I still suggest using the Blender in the system!
Hi Sonia! We do not recommend the full line during pregnancy or nursing. Some of the products contain 4% hydroquinone which is why it’s not recommended. You can use the Nu-derm cleaners, toner, moisturizer and spf tho!
Hey My mum got prescribed the oily to normal system but she has dry and sensitive skin. I was wondering if she uses the oily system will she react Badly?
Julie, Hi! I have been using Obagi Nuderm for years and lately have found my pores are larger and skin thicker Is there something I can do to change or improve this?
Hi is it safe to use Obagi Nuderm during the warm Summer months? I started the Middle of February and expect to be finish by the end of may or 1st week of June.
Yes! As long as you are diligent with your sunscreen and reapply along with wearing a hat will be really helpful! You want to make sure your face is really kept out of the sunlight.
Good question. I like to be outdoors and it's sunny sunny 100 degree weather in south Texas. Can I still go hiking and exercising outdoors while using this product as so long as I'm using sunscreen? Or will this make me feel?
From my understanding... tretinoin and retinal are forms of vitamin A. Tretinoin is a medical man made version of retinal which works faster and is more harsh on your skin I think this is why you need a prescription to get it. Retinal is more natural and less harsh if you have sensitive skin it’s better to use retinal I think
Margaret Roeleven Absolutely! If you have already acclimated your skin to the entire Nuderm system, my favorite next step is adding Vit C to my morning regimen after the toner and before #3 Clear. Check out my other video about add-ones.
@@juliesilver9815 THank you , so kind of you to reply . I have been using the Nuderm system for 5 weeks now ... would this be the right time to start the Vit C ? If so ... which one please ?
@@juliesilver9815 Hi again , i am in week 6 of my Nu Derm regime now . IS this a good time to start with the Vit C ? If so ... which one should i start with please ? Should i stick to Obagi products only ?
Margaret Roeleven I apologize for not responding earlier. I think the right time to begin the Vit C serum is when you are finished with any acclimation to the system - no irritation, peeling, flaking that can occur when starting the system. I would stick with Obagi’s Vit C line as it designed to compliment the Nuderm system. It is a very active and stable form of Vit C and so you can be sure it will have a long shelf life, as opposed to many other popular Vit C’s.
You can use it every day! Depending on your skin type, some physicians may recommend using it less. It will be case by case. We recommend it every day to our patients when starting the Nu Derm system.
We recommend using the full Obagi line. But if you are using other items with it, as long as you aren't experiencing any negative side effects, then it is ok.
Hi! Can I skip the toner and just use clear in the am plus exfoderm forte? Only blender + tret at night skipping the clear at night - Will I still get results? Also they said to only use hydroquinone for 3 months and take break for 3 months before using again? Can you do a maintenance video after Obagi Nu-derm please and skincare routine for the body? Thanks!
Thank you for the great video.... can you use Perter Thomas Roth Retinol along with Obagi Nu Derm System #3 Clear and #5 Blend “No hydroquinone” night time treatment? I have melasma thanks.
We always suggest consulting with your provider but if your skin can handle that, then yes that is what we recommend. You can start off every other day to get your skin acclimated to it.
Hi Romy, apply the Vit C Serum after the Toner and before the Clear. I do have another video discussing how and when to apply additional products. Check out my other videos!
I just used the obagi nu derm blend Fx for the first time and it has a smell? is that normal?? I got it off mercari and was told it doesn’t have an expiration date. it was sealed and new in packaging and everything but idk it smells weird
I'm having the same problem I have the Exfoderm skin smoothing lotion it's very watery and it has a nasty smell are you having the same problem please reply
Do you use hydrate in morning or night? I forgot to buy it. Where I bought my products didn’t have it as a kit so I had to buy the items individually. I have 1-5 and the tretinoin, then the sunscreen.
Hydrate is something used as needed. If you feel more dry, we suggest using morning and night. But it’s also something you can use just when needed so it’s not 100% necessary :). Hope that helps!
Hi how effective is the obagi 3 in derm clear fix the one with arbutin 7% in ? Does the arbutin convert into hydroquinone in the skin as it’s a derivative of hydroquinone and do you need rest breaks with arbutin like you need rest breaks with hydroquinone?
Dynamite Dynamite Hello! Great questions! The Arbutin does not convert. It is effective but if you look at in a sense of making to a finish line, it will take a bit longer as it’s not as strong. You can use both continually if you choose, but we do have people cut back to a maintenance level once they reach desired results.
Healthy Glow so it’s a good idea to use arbutin 7% everyday twice a day until you achieve desired results and then once desired results are achieved then you can use the arbutin 7% 2-3 times weekly to maintain instead of everyday ?
Healthy Glow is that only on dark pigmentation areas or use twice a day all over your face ? And is a good ideas to use a retinoid at night too after arbutin product ? Can’t tretinoin or adapalene 0.1% fade post inflammatory hyperpigmentation or melasma ? I am Dark skinned tone type 4-5 ? Is the arbutin 7% prescription or non prescription?
