Even though they hold different opinions, I feel that both Obama and Romney were good people at heart and had mutual respect for either. You can see that by the lack of personal attacks they shoot at each other and how they both focus on policies and important things instead of bickering.

Have you seen any conservative protest against biden in public? No because conservatives have more respect for democracy and that joe biden won than liberals who protested when someone won a election. Voted Obama, but holy smoke did Mitt Romney run train on him in Round-1. After the fact, as a center left guy - i've really grown to like Romney and and upset with my original character assessment of him. Maybe i'll catch flak for it - but most underappreciated presidential election in a long time. Two utterly qualified guys getting it on.
Hunter Golden well the media really turned people against romney, lots of lies and misdirection. watching these debates and it's insane romney was right about pretty much everything he said in 2012 especially about russia which obama laughed in his face about and the media mocked romney about it. Then look what happened.
personally, going back and hearing his plans, they were actually pretty good. I wonder how it would have been if he won. unfortunately he lost the third debate, and then completely vanished the last 2 weeks I don't know why. I still wonder mostly where he was those 2 or 3 weeks I don't think he did even any rallies

You think just because they were talking with civility, that means they weren't having insane crossfire with each other behind the scenes? The only thing is that the American people see it more now, and the media added more fuel to it. Ideologies don't change just because they talk nice to each other, and show a modicum of respect. I'm not talking because I enjoyed the Trump/Hillary debate, far from it, just would rather see the country do well than to say "I wish debates were like this again," because the republicans and democrats have been at each others neck since forever. Only thing is you weren't seeing it firsthand.

Back in 2012, I agreed with some stuff that Romney said but not quite everything, and I supported Obama. Now that we’re in 2020, I would take Romney over Trump any day, easily.

Me too, I was 12 in 2016 and got heavily into politics during that election cycle now it’s my passion. I love to go back and watch the old debates, such a stark difference compared to today.
Yeah I mean Trump was funded by middle eastern countries that abuse women and rape gays, has his speeches written out by Goldman Sachs, also funded by Wallstreet, deleted 30,000 emails that have contained some classified information, hired the chairman that rigged the primaries, and don't forget, Trump has also paid media outlets to give him easy questions to answer. Oh wait, that was Hillary.
What a difference there is between this debate (Obama and Romney) and the debates that involve Trump. I am so tired of this obnoxious person, who apparently lives on another planet in a country that nobody respects, and the people are terrorized by their borders, kill babies after they are born, etc.

I totally agree. I wasn’t on board with basically anything Romney outlined in his potential presidency, but he undoubtedly loves his country, and respects the office. It’s funny how a small thing like them being cordial to each other and shaking hands seems so foreign now.
Back when the US was not a laughing stock - two men who disagreed politically but respected each other and the office that they were running for. It's scary to think this was just over 10 years ago.

Incredible how Biden's disastrous performance is compared to Obama's "loss" in the first debate: Obama is clearly not at the best of this game (he was ill or tired, I believe) but he stayed very presidential (perhaps a bit too presidential, in the subsequent debates he would fight back more). And to the "oh Romney is so polite crowd": he still is a corporate shark in a suit. At least Trump believes his own lies, so actually says what he thinks. Romney is so polite with his Colgate smile, but cowardly endorsed racist attack ads against Obama. Also his deceitful attack about bipartisanship while he knew full well that it were Republicans who refused to work with Obama.
Obama/Romney are 1000x the man Trump could ever hope to be.. Biden has a good track record over the past 3 years, but he should know when it's time to step aside and let the youngins take the baton...

It’s sad that It makes me happy to see right in the beginning the two shake hands and have a small embrace with each other. Both knew each as a opponents but handled it so civilized. Regardless of who debated better, this whole thing was done with class.
It just goes to show no matter what political ideologies we hold as Americans, we can do so in a respectful and civil manner. We need to get back to that.
