OBAN 14....

I love the Oban Little Bay and can get that for half the cost of the 14. I've heard more than a couple of people say they preferred the Little Bay, maybe the price point has something to do with that, but unless the 14 has about a 20% price cut, I'm disinclined to give it a try and will simply opt for the excellent Little Bay.

I really enjoy Oban 14, it is my favourite whiskey so far, even though I'm a newbie, but it's definitely too expensive. Here in Australia it could get up to $150. What other drams can you recommend that are similar to Oban. I like that it is brinie, fruity and not overly peaty, just balanced imo. Cheers

For this price I can get a Knockando 18, which I prefer.

The first time I tried Oban 14 was almost six years ago. It was in a restaurant, and I thought I'd have a dram after dinner. Naturally, I was already trying every whisky I could find... At the time, I was impressed with the many layers of flavors and the complexity, having never tasted anything so good until that point in my life. I came back to the Oban 14 last year after trying the Distiller's Edition and the Little Bay. It was still good, but it didn't give me the same experience. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't any longer the best thing that I ever tasted. I suppose that first dram of Oban 14 was special because it was oxidized just enough that the bottle was at its peak, and I guess I had better whiskies between that first dram of Oban 14 and the bottle that I have open currently. I will come back to that bottle tomorrow, when I will record some more videos...

100% agreed. A nice malt but overpriced. It’s about $70 ish at my locals last time I’ve seen it. Not worth that. I found this one at a restaurant one time and got a couple pours super cheap cause they didn’t know that they had it when I asked for it. I had to show them on the shelf myself what I wanted. It wasn’t even priced in their computer system. 😁

Goes for $80USD at my "go to" store, with the Distiller's Edition at $95USD. I didn't find this particular dram overly complex and therefore not really a decent value at that price. Excellent video, thanks for "sharing" and getting "pleasure in the drinking". Cheers All!

Hope all is well with you and your family Alan. Oban 14 was a early one in my Scotch journey. I was very adverse to peat for a long time and this one is a bridge into peat when somthing like Highland Park 12 was overwhelming to me. Lots of good flavors for everyone. Cheers mate

I have yet to bring this bottle home. I've had it at a couple of bars and I always enjoy it, but I'm worried my perception is coloured by situation. Sounded good for you, so now I can rest that this is a quality dram. Thanks for sharing.

Timed perfectly, Alan. Was just drinking a few drams of Oban 14 last night :D Is really great stuff. Only €55 back in Sweden, which is a good price considering normal retail here in Australia currently isn't so great - sits around $120-130AUD. But a local chain had a sale a few weeks back and got a bottle for $80AUD! Bargain. Cheers!

I’m 100% with you on the price point Alan. I’ve sometimes enjoyed drams of this in the pub, but the c.£48- £50 price point has always put me off buying a bottle. Clynelish has been my go-to of the Diageo whiskies.

Thanks for another great review. Totally agree with you that it is an overpriced whisky. Pity about that as it is a good whisky.

It's up past the $90 mark here after the tariffs went into effect. It's one of my favorite drams, it's the one that pulled me down the scotch rabbit hole, but at $90 I can't do it. I'd pay 50GBP all day if I could.
