Obedience is the Only Response to Authority 

Eight years later, in 2024, starting around (10:00), this sermon may be helpful to many Catholics who are trying to discern what appear to be attempts on the part of the hierarchy itself to outlaw reverent behavior and to redefine the 2000 year old truths of our faith.

Question- I usually would not post this question online; however, this seems to be Traditional and very helpful, and I trust many of the viewers are also. I am an Altar Server at my local parish (_Novus Ordo_ Mass). I consider myself Traditional, and am accustomed to kneeling to receive the Blessed Sacrament. Last April, I believe, a series of dictates concerning "uniformity of reverence" were handed down to the ministers, the first of which was that we were not to kneel to receive Holy Communion. I could not find anything against this initially, so I accepted it. This July, I was at my Diocese's _Quo Vadis_ retreat. By that point, I had been exposed to many SSPX/Sedevacantist arguments, and raised questions based on them whilst speaking to one of the Seminarians (his answers were exceptional, and I have no objections to the Church's Doctrine); however, he also gave me a source specifically about kneeling to receive Holy Communion. It was a letter by the Congregation for the Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. I am sure many of you are familiar with it. Included therein is a statement to the effect of: no one is to be denied Holy Communion on basis of his preference to kneel, nor be accused of disobedience or of acting illicitly for choosing to do so. This was in response to many complaints that Bishops and Priests were condemning kneeling to receive the Sacrament. A series of other issues followed in the name of "uniformity of reverence", the rest of which have been resolved; however, the ministers are still told to stand to receive the Sacrament (in fact, they were told not even to genuflect- merely bow profoundly). Sadly, upon asking for the source to defend my conscience's preference, I was met with the attitude that I should not argue. I asked for the information regardless, and agreed not to argue. I am no longer willing to force myself to obey the command to stand- as far as I will go for the sake of obedience is to stand for the remainder of the scheduling period, which means about three more times-, and hence am stepping down from the post of Altar Server (I am hoping to become an Altar Server at the nearest Church with a TLM; however, that's an hour and a half away, and I still don't have my driver's license). Deacon, the Altar Server coordinator, and one of my fellow Altar Servers (a phenomenal and very reverent Server who is a year my younger) all dislike my decision. It so happens that I am discerning for the Priesthood (FSSP specifically, due to my Traditional nature), and Deacon, knowing this, made the comment that it would appear bad in the eyes of my Vocations Director and the Seminary's Superior were I to step down, as I may appear disobedient. I countered saying that no one would mistake my choice for disobedience if he had even a slight understanding of the situation; however, because of the opposition, I am beginning to wonder if my choice is questionable, or could in some way be considered disobedience. How’s that philosophy working out since Traditionis Custodes? Also Francis reversed the position on the death penalty. Has the priest who gave the homily submitted to authority on both of these matters?

Can a bishop with legitimate authority suspend public masses? Are we required to obey this? Can people attend covert masses or is this disobedient? What is Church law on this?

This is amazing what Fr. said about the death penalty considering how Pope Francis changed the catechism just last week. This is from 2015.

Obedience is NOT the only response to authority. St. Paul resisted Peter to his face because Peter was to be blamed...per Holy Scriptures. Several holy saints and theologians have written that we should oppose a pope who attempts to harm the body...and we should oppose a pope who attempts to harm the Church.

I love this condemnation of capital punishment was said 3 years prior to pope francis opposing papal history. We need to pray for him and those pushing him to do crazy things.

Didn't Thomas Aquinas say we should obey our conscience?

Our archdiocese says masks are obligated when attending mass. Must we obey this edict?

Claiming that the Church cannot teach that the Death Penalty is wrong under most circumstances and then calling for obedience is hilarious. This should be labeled as black comedy.

Obedience to man is NOT a virtue. Authority literally means “to invent”, from the Latin root word ‘auctoritatem.’ It’s where we get the word ‘author,’ as in an author of FICTION. Doctrines are from the word DOCTOR - as in “these papers have been doctored; FALSIFIED.”
