Oberheim OB-X8 Demo & Review 

What?

Honestly the OP-X PRO-II plugin sounds just as good to me, you can get it for like a hundred bucks right now.

i bought a P10 way before the X8 was even announced. i've thought about selling sometimes, to fund the X8. however, i think i would regret it only because i like the P10 so much. fortunately i don't have enough room for both. this is the first video of the X8 i actually liked. all the others i've seen are sorta of meh.

@@xiaoxia5 That's because none of the first people who bought an OB-X8 know how to play the keyboard - except Jim Danecker. So it's a smattering of guys trying to play Jump or Tom Sawyer. This guy is a wizard.

I gave up my OB-6 for one.

Just a humble TC Electronic M-300 (on the OB-X8).... 80 € or less, 2nd hand, here in Spain... a real bargain...!!

If I remember correctly, Sequential is planning to add an option to swap the pitch and mod levers.

The function can be reversed.

I've had mine for 5 years and I learned it in a day. What are you yapping about. People adjust to Roland's pitch stick and Nord's weird wooden thing just fine, same with the OB paddles. I feel they're like a mix between the Nord stick and Wheels for expressivity. It's not the ARP PPC.

@@F0nkyNinja OK dude, I know how to use them... I am just saying in a room full of synths whenever I fire my OB up I have to readjust... so chill. The axis is literally inverted compared to almost any other bender. I have yet to find a pitch wheel where down is up and up is down.

It's the same on the Oberheim OB-1

OB-8 was post-midi... so, OB-X or OB-Xa at that time...

​@@kaiwetronic Actually OB-8 was released at the same time as MIDI came out in early '83 so the earliest ones don't have it. Prince uses an OB-Xa there but he got the OB-8 later.

@@SPAZZOID100 No doubt it’s a cool keyboard, I’ve been watching all the videos .. some over and over .. trying to justify why I should get one, but it’s VERY hard to fork over $5000.00 for one when I sold my OB-Xa in 1990 for $450.00 .. yeah seriously .. nobody here in Los Angeles wanted em then .. mine sat in the LA Recycler classifieds for a month before a guy finally bought it, he also bought my Jupiter 8 for the same amount, and my two Minimoog’s for $150.00 each, a month later I sold my DX7 for $500.00 .. more than my Jupiter 8 lol. Did you get an OB-X8? I’m still chewing on the idea of getting one .. but again it’s a really hard sell for older guys like me who worked professionally with these in the 80’s .. dumping them for peanuts in the 90’s to go digital. Anyway if you got one how long can you go in a session before you have to hit auto tune?, with mine it’d start drifting after about an hour or so .. do these do the same thing?

I hope you were joking!🤔You said "..equally sounding..."? NOT!🤣FYI, I have the Sonicprojects OPX II Pro VST, and it sounds fantastic (..especially for a relatively old VST..), but the OB-X8 has THAT magic mojo that the VST can't quite emulate. Of course, if portability and budget are priorities (..as they are for a mere mortal like me..), then - yes - OPX II Pro does a good job, and there are a lot of great presets for it too.

@@derekbaker3279 exactly, for the Sonicproject you get every known OB patch that makes sense ever, for free, plus lots of JP8. Let's be honest. What happens with all these 'fat' analog sounds in a mix. You always eq them to make them less big for not cancelling the rest of your track. Unless your tracks are soloing on a Mini for an hour. Everything else I leave to blind testing with some Eventide or BigSky added. But hey if you are happy, I'm happy, too.
