When obeying the government, one frist should ask in what domain? Whats Biblically speaking the role of the government? Paul wrote a letter to the Romans, a people giving themselves over to immortal debasement. They were wicked. Paul's response was to be a revolutionary in the way Christ did for us. The questions answer is the same if we are Christ's than we serve, we submit within the sovereignty of God's love to glorify Him and to testify in the midst of tyranny. Whether we see plainly how God could possibly be Glorified in the mass murdering of Jewish people at Auschwitz or not it is there. One question to consider is: what does it look like to be "set apart", "outcast", "alien", "sojourner" and "in and not of the world"! If we thow away our modern American conceptions of what Christianity looks like, in a comfortable seat in an air conditioned auditorium on a Sunday, and replaced it with, as Paul wrote, "I have learned that whatever situation I am in to therefore be content," would we still follow. Paul was in chains I believe dictating those words to his scribe. Maleficence does exist. The absence of oneness with God is real. We are called to fight it with love, it will do an external work of glory in us because of that. As Pastor Piper says, "it doesn't matter whether it is cancer or criticism it is doing something." In Romans 13 Paul tells the Christians in Rome to submit to Roman authority at a time when no less a despot than Nero was emperor. He was an awful emperor. So the principle John Piper mentions in this video stands. We obey our government in everything they tell us to do, no matter how bad the government is, except when they tell us to commit a sin.
So I think that in the US we have a constitution which is the highest authority in the land. The authority granted the government is derived from that document. Therefore, any action taken by the government that is in violation of that authority is invalid. Further more, the 2nd amendment starts by stating as a matter of fact that an armed malitia is required for the security of a free state. It is therefore implied that when the government exceeds the bounds of it's authority it is incumbent upon the people to correct that. And that is everything up to and including armed resistance. I think it is therefore actually our God given duty to hold the government accountable to the constitution and to allow the government to overrule the constitution is to disobey our charge given in the second amendment. I fully agree that Christians should obey the government as LONG as the government is acting in accordance with the authority granted it.
So, by that logic, if the Constitution made it law to sin against God, we should just go ahead and obey the Constitution? Who exactly is in charge of your life? Is it Jesus? If Jesus is truly in charge, you must never, ever, for any reason, harm another person. This includes evildoers. Evildoers. The Word says the World is under the dominion of the evil one. This means these governments will all run contrary to The Word. Jesus didn't come to change the culture of the evil Roman Empire. He left their culture where it stood, He saved those who desired a relationship. This means, stop letting your government or current culture dictate how you are governned in the heart. Our constitution as Citizens of the Heavenly Realm, as Christians, is The Holy Bible, which is the living, breathing word of God. We are to die to ourselves and be obedient to that cross. It says to obey the government. Do it and keep GOD FIRST. It is of no significant matter, but it does involve obedience to Christ.

In an unlimited fashion? I think there are exceptions that Scripture provides. Yes, be a good citizen and apt your taxes but there are times when you resist. Certainly it should not be a default position to resist but martyrdom implies that you are resisting authority. Don’t teach this in a vacuum, teach the whole council of God.
It really depends on what you mean by resist? “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.” Romans 13:1-2 ESV First, we need to accept that all who have authority have been given authority by the Lord. The Lord has ordained anyone who has power, and so, we respect the Lord when we respect those with power. Then, we can look at Jesus’s case. Jesus Himself was unjustly arrested, unjustly interrogated, unjustly trialed, and unjustly executed. And yet, what did He do? He pleaded innocence and nothing else. When Peter attempted to defend Jesus, what did Jesus say? “Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword.” Matthew 26:52 ESV Yes, and so we who imitate Christ should be willing to submit to our governmental authority even unto death while innocent. For the Lord has willed these things, and how great it is when we honor the Lord by honoring those He ordained into power. The only time resistance has ever been allowed in the Bible is when a command by the government contradicts a command from our Lord. We can see this in Daniel when the Israelites are forbidden from worship. We can see this when the apostles are hunted down for spreading the gospel. However, none of them ever resisted, but rather they fled. And when they were caught, they used their opportunities to spread the gospel and submit to the government, even unto death. The only reason Im writing this is because Im afraid by what you mean when you say “resist”? Because you imply that resistance is sometimes fine but also mention martyrdom. If you consider martyrdom a type of resistance, then I believe it’s really the only valid case.

We are to obey God above the government. If the government tells you to pay for the murder of a child then God commands you to do the opposite. If the government tells you to teach your children doctrines of demons the Bible not only tells you to do the opposite but also that it would be better for you to have a millstone tied around your neck and thrown into the lake of fire than to mislead one of His little ones. There are times when a Christian must say no. God will not ask you if you obeyed the government at the judgment. God will ask you if you obeyed Him. You will have to choose who reigns supreme in your life and its up to you whether you hear "well done good and faithful servant" or "depart from me ye worker of iniquity"

When the government told the churches to be closed during Covid. You all obeyed. And that was a great sin. Nobody can run from God. So, no, do not obey your government when it hates God.
The gladiator games were in their peak during the time when Jesus was teaching. Why didn't Jesus ever mention them? Or any of the other apostles, surely Paul or Peter or John or the rest would have time to write something about them! We should not accept abortion. But seeking to overthrow a government that commits atrocities is NOT what Christianity is about. By believing and teaching the truth to the bitter end and loving one another to the bitter end, we can make a culture that recognizes abortion for the horror that it is. We use legal, loving, truth-filled means to this end.
