“You should have killed me when you had the chance.” Just hearing James Earl Jones saying that just brings back the good old days of the original trilogies.
I think this could set up the "I was but the learner" line that everyone is concerned about. Vader is obviously toying with Obi-Wan and in a twisted way is enjoying the chase. He wants to let Obi-Wan go, he wants him to be afraid, he wants him to suffer…..I also think he wants a better fight. He waited all those years to finally have his revenge and to face the man who left him to burn and when he finally got the chance, he was left unsatisfied. All the built up rage and anticipation just to realize that he could end Obi-Wan in seconds in the state he was in. After everything that happened, Vader wanted more, wanted a challenge, and wanted Kenobi to truly suffer. Vader is so confident, especially after seeing how weak Obi-Wan was, that he'll be able to find him again and kill him easily so he takes advantage of that and allows the chase to continue so he can drag out his former master's suffering and cause the most pain possible. They are most likely going to fight again, but because Vader was arrogant and desired more and decided to let Obi-Wan go, when it’s time for the “rematch of the century” that has been teased and honestly the one that Vader probably wants and has been craving, Obi-Wan will have had time to collect himself and is going to come back much stronger. Obviously Vader doesn't end up killing him and his failure to end him when he first had the chance will cause him to lose the opportunity for real. So then, when we see them fight in A New Hope, Vader has learned his lesson and doesn't try to toy with him, doesn't play games, and doesn’t take the opportunity for granted. He instead just immediately tries to kill him.
You have to remember Obi wan has cut himself off from the force he needs to find balance to contact his old master I think the next meeting between them will fill in the ROTJ vader line when Luke asks him to leave with him Vader say Obi Wan once felt as you do it we have never seen Obi try and turn him back to the good side
I see what Vader is doing. He's playing with the Inquisitors constantly getting them to bicker and fight amongst themselves so that one is always constantly trying to prove their loyalty to him. In the end, they're basically always one uping each other which means Vader always gets what he wants. He doesn't care about the Grand Inquisitor or any of them as long as he gets Kenobi
@@MrEmmanuelmack It's because they're all greedy and power hungry. They all want to be the most powerful person in the galaxy, so by limiting the amount of Sith to two, they limit the amount of potential threats to themselves. That said, most every Sith we've ever known has had at least one or 2 secret apprentices, lol.
Vader saw that Obi-Wan had help, so if he follows them he can possibly find more Jedi and even an entire Rebel cell to wipe out. Vader isn't stupid, and this is personal for him so he can play with his food a little longer.
The first confrontation post Revenge of the Sith between Darth Vader and Ben Kenobi looked so good. The 3 strike blows that Vader gives is a foreshadowing of Luke Skywalker providing that same 3 strikes blows with his lightsaber to Vader in Return of the Jedi.
While I liked the outcome of the fight, it sort of looked like a fan film. It just didn’t look “official”. From the camera work to the way the lightsabers looked, idk it just felt a little weird but that’s like my only complaint of the episode. 9/10
@@officialthomasjames no lie sounds like you a little jaded from some other mid content Disney has put out for SW and I can’t blame you. I don’t mean any offense by this, I Have a feeling all these opinions will be washed and changed by the time the whole show is out and people rewatch. Me personally this is the most Star Wars Star Wars content in years, even moreso than the mandalorian.
This was MUCH darker than I was expecting, but I love dark stuff so much, so this was probably my favorite episode of Marvel or Star Wars Disney shows yet. I just really love the dark stuff and part of it was that I wasn't expecting it in something like this which made it better. The sudden snapping of the kid's neck to burning Obi-Wan in the fire to make him feel the same pain as Anakin did on Mustafar was great to me.
Yeah, I love seeing Vader as this absolutely terrifying, imposing, sadistic figure. Honestly though, the storm trooper falling through the laser barrier really set the ton for the darkness they are going for imo. Like, that was some almost The Boys level of gore in a canon star wars property and I am here for it. This is part of the height of the empire and they are imposing and terrifying.
Loved the episode. This is the most terrifying Vader yet! Dude was straight up Michael Myer’ing this episode 🙀 The moments with Leia & Obi just continues to excel ❤️❤️❤️ they couldn’t have hired a better actor to play young Leia
@@colbysteffens2976 that was against an army and not civilians. What he did to that family (killing the father & son) and also the lady he force dragging is just evil! Sith don’t give one fuk about anyone but themselves
James Earl Jones voicing Darth Vader again is great but I feel Favreau and Filoni are using the same AI technology that was used on Hamill's Luke Skywalker and that's why his voice is so clear because it matches to the original trilogy films. I sure hope that's the method they used because it definitely paid off really well.
Theory about the grand inquisitor. He is out of commission for this episode. And we all know he survives I can see them reviving him and revealing that reva attempted to kill him. Then they all turn against her and she is all alone
There were those shots in the trailer of the troopers at the Fortress Inquisitorious aiming their guns at something and then Reva swinging her lightsaber around to deflect a hail of laser blasts. So yeah, I'm guessing it'll be revealed the Grand Inquisitor is alive, he reveals to the others that Reva tried to kill him and they turn on her and she has to flee.
Vader's obsession is all about making Obi-Wan Kenobi suffer the same way he suffered and you get a tease of the "high ground" with Darth Vader when he uses the force against Obi-Wan Kenobi before dropping him into the fire as Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith.
The dialogue and symbolism in the interactions between Vader and Kenobi were fantastic. The “I am what you made me,” “you should’ve killed me when you had the chance,” and the burning scene.
Just seeing Vader using the force against Obi-Wan Kenobi and then throwing him into the flames wanting him to feel the exact same pain he felt on mustafar all those years ago…it's hard to comprehend.
Moses Ingram really improved this episode. I was initially lukewarm on the character but Reva has quickly grown on me. Props to Ewan and other fans for defending her.
@@nips2good4u80 I know right? Especially when she was saying send out the droids...couldn't even pause where there was a period. She's pretty trash in this series.
I'm very curious how Obi Wan will reach his old power level again or at least improve because in this state of this episode he (obviously) has no chance against Vader. 👌🏼
Probably the same way as Rey did when she was going up againt sidious, the call of the jedis gave her ultimate strength so I assume Qui Gon will reach out to him and give him strength cause Obi-One keeps calling out to Qui Gon
I don't know if it's a big deal but I loved the different variety of stormtroopers. There were some female stormtroopers, and even some with different accents. Idk I though that was cool
Whenever someone asks me who the greatest movie villain of all time is I will show them this episode. Vader proves once again that he is the master of fear! First he starts by just brutally force chocking and and snapping the necks of random civilians as he is walking down a street without breaking stride or even saying a word. Then ignites his lightsaber just to instill fear into Obi-Wan. Then after toying with Obi-wan he drags him through a river of fire like he left Vader in.
You know, they might've actually just explained how Leia remembers Padme; albeit unintentionally. Obi-Wan says he remembers a few things about his mother and brother, but there's no way he'd be able to remember much at such a young age though. So, to me, it would make sense that since those persons whom are mature in the Force can have visions of the future, that they can also have visions of the past. So Leia remembering Padme isn't quite a far stretch after all; most especially since when Obi-Wan was talking about the memory of his family, Leia never mentioned anything about remembering her mother. So I'd assume that she never had past visions of her mother til she was a bit older.
Can we just talk about how Darth Vader pushes Obi-Wan away after burning him and then says "Bring him to me?" 😂 You could've just dragged him to you like u were doing lol
@@Spider-ManHQ in the scenes defense Vader likes imposing fear and punishment, he doesn’t HAVE to force pull him in, he’s the so called leader and to him obi wan has nobody around him for help, so why would he be concerned about force pulling him towards himself when he believes he’s won? Y’all are picky
Y'all my heart hurts. On the one hand, it's super cool to see Darth Vader at his prime here and Rogue One. But on the OTHER hand when you remember this was Anakin Skywalker, someone who was kind, compassionate, loved so deeply....you just get sad.
Kind is a strong word. He had extreme violent tendencies from the beginning. The only "kindness" he had was using his knack for violence and instinct to become a great general for the "good" side. Yeah he treated his clones like humans but let's be real he still was totally fine using them as a means to an end.
@@zacharyjackson1829 You're also missing how he acted with Obi-Wan's supposed death during the Hardeen arc, when he accepted Ahsoka Tano as his apprentice, when Ahsoka was captured during the Wookie Hunt arc and when they reunited he was the one apologizing for not doing more, she had to reassure him, when Ahsoka was wrongly accused of treason, when he went after Artoo who is literally just a droid, when he freed the Togrutan and Twi'lek slaves he actually showed a kind of compassion for the Queen who herself was a slave to the Separatists, when he refused to leave Obi-Wan in _Revenge of the Sith_ he carried the man on his back, not with the Force, but on his back. When he met up with Ahsoka years later the first words out of his mouth are "Where are you, how are you....are....are you okay?" And I disagree about the clones. He wouldn't let them take unnecessary risks, he trusted Rex with his life, and held an immense respect for the Clones. Anakin cared. He cared so much and so deeply it hurt. And it was that fear of loss again that drove him to such lengths to stop people from leaving him, stop them from dying. He's like Strange Supreme in that sense; couldn't accept loss and death as part of the plan.
Vader's actions reminded me of Bill the Butcher in "Gangs of New York" when he says to Amsterdam "HE AIN'T EARNED A DEATH AT MY HANDS!!!" as he beats the crap out of him.
I didn't think we'd get that much of vader so soon! I thought maybe we'd get a couple of short scenes that's it. Loved it! I think it's really fitting that this was their first encounter. You could feel how terrified Obi-Wan was. We all expected the first time he'll light up his lightsaber will be some kind of heroic moment where he shows how much of a badass he is. Instead, the first time he lit his lightsaber was in pure terror and fear, using it as a flashlight to figure out where Vader was. This whole encounter had horror movie vibes and I think it's really fitting for the whole story.
@@republicofcasuals Elizabeth Taylor, Drew Barrymore, Kurt Russell, Elijah Wood, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anna Paquin, Natalie Portman, Jodie Foster, Sean Astin...just as many child actors who became hugely successful adult actors. Just sayin.
Reva reminds me of episode 2 Anakin, no patience and just wants to be a master. Nobody liked the character Anakin was in episode 2 but we all love him now. I think Reva is an amazing character and will grow as we progress through the show
With regard to Moses Ingram character, she is playing the role the way it was written, that is her job and she is doing it very well. With regard to those racist out there who judge based on a persons color, listen carefully, your day will come and there will be a reckoning and you will be judged. I only hope that when it happens it will HURT, and I mean A LOT. On a lighter note, thanks Reel Rejects for taking a stand in support of Moses. Love the video.
Vader saying “you should’ve killed me when you had the chance” is going to haunt him. He should’ve killed Obi Wan instead of toying with him. I think Obi Wan will get guidance from Qui-Gon, get more focused with the Force and show up Vader again, showing him that he is still the master and Vader is still the learner even at this point The other part is Obi-Wan has to sense the good in him and tell him there’s still good, pass along Padme’s final words maybe, so the line from “Return of the Jedi” can make more sense, when Vader says to Luke is response to Luke saying he sense good in him and Vader says “Obi Wan once thought as you did”
I feel like the show almost has to end with Obi-Wan being plausibly considered dead or unrecoverable by Vader. If Obi-Wan were to clearly triumph against him, again, and then just walk away he would never rest in his hunt for revenge.
@@mediumvillain agreed. Maybe Obi-Wan is clearly going to win their next matchup (since Vader has to believe he’s still the master because of what he says in A New Hope), but seems to die (maybe Vader leaves him to die somewhere). So many possibilities!
That shot of Anakin Skywalker from Obi-Wan Kenobi's mind exactly matches to Anakin 17 years prior in Revenge of the Sith on the planet Mustafar as he is embraced the darkside of the force.
At SWC over the weekend Sam Witwer mentioned getting a T-16 reference in every Star Wars film and i noticed it in this one after the stormtroopers got off the transport from freck, he did say there’d be one in the series I’m just glad I had the subtitles on to catch it
I think it’s very interesting seeing Obi wan being unsure of himself. He’s trying to hold on to his humanity as it’s really all he has left, but in order to stand up to the darkest bullies anyone can imagine he has to marshal resources and skills that have atrophied from lack of use and his role as an under cover nobody, the proverbial grey man. He’s ring rusty both physically and mentally. Vader, on the other hand has been living for revenge and intends to enjoy and savor every last morsel of it he can at Kenobi’s expense, his twisted pleasure delaying is that of a serial killer. The sense of drama being heightened by adrenaline is most intoxicating and it’s only going to plateau in the second half of this gripping tale. I’m counting down the hours until the next episode already having watched this one 3 times already, and that’s how Star Wars should be always! Force kudos indeed!
I love this first confrontation. We really get to see how shaken and out-of-practice Obi-Wan is versus a Vader that has been seething in rage all this time. Obi-Wan is legitimately terrified, a side we've never really seen of him before but makes perfect sense. He hasn't used the Force or ignited his lightsaber in 10 years until this mission to rescue Leia. Combine that with the trauma of learning that your former padawan and closest friend/"brother" has been alive with the sole purpose of finding you, and we can see just how far Obi-Wan has fallen. Theories on the final 3 episodes: Episode 4: A mediation/healing episode for Obi-Wan as comes to terms with Anakin being alive. Maybe this is where we'll see or at least hear Obi-Wan finally connect with Qui-Gon as he searches for strength for the next inevitable confrontation with Vader. Episode 5: A recovered and mentally/spiritually sound Obi-Wan (as we know him to be) sets out again to rescue Leia. Episode 6: THE confrontation against Vader we want to see and the rematch that has been hyped up for this series. Perhaps once again on Mustafar if we look at the concept art that was released last year. Here Obi-Wan tries one final time to reach Anakin to bring him back (recall Vader's line to Luke as Luke is trying to get through to him on Endor in Return of the Jedi: "Obi-Wan once thought as you do."). Obviously, this ends in failure and Obi-Wan realizes that the boy he trained is truly gone (until Luke finally reaches him of course). Leia's returned to Alderaan, and we see a healed Grand Inquisitor retake his role (seriously, I can't understand why some people honestly think he's dead). Final shot of the series: Obi-Wan, now fully in the identity of Ben, returns to Tatooine and resumes his silent watch over a growing Luke Skywalker.
Incredible to see, but I always got the impression that Vader and Obiwan hadn't seen each other since Revenge of the Sith, based on their conversation in A New Hope.
@@SwaggerLikeUz I figured be saw Vader on the Holonet and that's how he knew. He also said that in Return of the Jedi after his duel with him in A New Hope.
@@alexandermildener7220 Do you not understand this show? Obi-Wan has COMPLETELY cut himself off from the Force and the galaxy at large. He’s exiled in the Outer Rim, living in a cave…how the hell would he know what Vader looks like and who he is without a confrontation?
@@issiahsilva I am aware that Obiwan cut him himself off the force, but Darth Vader and his appearance is infamous all over the galaxy and he received confirmation that Vader is alive. "When I last met you, I was but the learner, now I am the master", makes no sense now. It interferes with the continuity established in A New Hope.
This last part of this video is amazing. Thank you for speaking up on the issue. I think Moses Ingram is doing her job. If you are not to like the character she is doing it well!!
And this is why Darth Vader is counted among one of the most iconic villains in the history of fiction. I could watch an entire episode with just him being all angry and vengeful. Vader,at this phase,is probably at his worst for the grief of losing Padme and the rage at Obi Wan is festering within him like a fresh wound that was never closed. He is absolutely merciless.
Wow! What an episode! I really enjoyed it for the most part, but I will say that I miss the incredible lightsaber choreography from the Prequels, and I don’t think that we’ll ever get it again unfortunately. The Obi-Wan and little Leia bond is fantastic, and Ewan has been amazing portraying Obi-Wan with PTSD. Can’t wait for these last 3 episodes! Hopefully Qui-Gon will show up in the next one and we’ll get some flashback scenes with Hayden as Anakin. It’s going to hit me right in my Prequel loving feels. Haha
"She was in Game of Thrones!" Sigh. You KIDS. Indira Varma was in HBO's "Rome" before that, and more importantly originally appeared as an *incredibly* sexy young woman in the English/Indian film "Kama Sutra." I've also seen her in some UK detective series where she's a badass inspector, but I don't remember its name.
I loved that triple hit move Vader did on Kenobi's lightsaber, its exactly what Luke does to him in ROTJ and what Anakin did when fighting Count Dooku in TCW
Vader only let Obi-Wan go because he was extremely disappointed with his desired revenge. When he saw through the fire how pathetic Obi-Wan had become that he needed the help of the others, he was taken aback. He was bewildered by Obi-Wan's inability to fight and decided to give Kenobi the chance for the real battle he had been craving for all these 10 years.
Surprised how good the series has been considering the series' writers haven't really worked on anything noteworthy. One of the writers wrote King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Awake that starred Hayden. Another wrote Drive and Snow White and the Huntsman. I wonder if Filoni or Favreau served as a story advisor.
The way Vader snapped that kid's neck was crazy. We never saw him kill those younglings and of course he did it but still, that scene blew me away. Loving this show so far! I also wonder if Qui-Gon shows Obi Wan how to become one with the force when he eventually passes away? Just how Qui-Gon guided Yoda in Clone Wars. "Only with your eyes closed, can you truly see." Such a powerful line 👏🏻
I wonder if Obi Wan will show Leia memories of her mother. Because in Episode 6, she says she remembers her mother (even though she died right after she was born so that’s impossible). That’s a plot hole they can now fix.
I love how Vader sounded, in Rogue One the voice even though it was JEJ it had a different tone and cadence. This sounded like Vader from the original movies.
43:00 don't own a t-shirt, but I'm that guy watching with a smile at the Piett shout out. My favorite Star Wars side character. Love the dude. Rest in peace, Piett.
Vader is so terrifying. I need more! Also In terms of race, Im glad you guys spoke about it and I couldn't agree more. Reva is an interesting character and Im invested in her backstory. And We need more variety in characters, but also We need more aliens. Ive noticed a lot of the new series have lots oh humans everywhere but I miss the creativity of the original puppets. If we can get more species included that would be awesome.
Rya Kihlstedt aka Ally Alston from Superman & Lois season 2 plays the Inquisitor 4th sister in this series opposite Sung Kang's Fifth Brother and Moses Ingrams' Reva's Third Sister.
I enjoyed the episode, y'all's discussion on the episode, but I really loved y'all's comments on racism and how there's no place for that in Star Wars, and it was all 100 % on point.
Greg and John I think O’Shea Jackson Jr is playing Quinlan Voss. Grace mentioned it in her breakdown and it makes so much sense. He the only cast member we haven’t seen and he kind of looks like him when you compare side to side
I think Reva just wants to get close enough to Vader to kill him as revenge for killing her classmates. But, she's lost to the dark side so she will literally kill her classmates to get her revenge. These are always redemption stories, don't be surprised if she is "good" at the end.
I think she wants to kill Obi-Wan because he sent the order for the Jedi not to return to the temple on Coruscant due to order 66, which is how they all got slaughtered there. She'd been looking in the Archives. She _knows_.
Man that episode was incredible! And that Vader is just BRUTAL I love it, you can see how much he waited for this “fight” with Obi Wan. Boy that was an experience
I love how they made Vader seem so menacing in this episode. Seeing Vader walk through that small village was terrifying and then the rest was just so..... Indescribable. Love it. Y'all Take Care & God Bless.
This is defo my fave ep so far I’m a sucker for some Darth Vader!! When kenobi senses him wowzers then Vader senses him and starts killing peeps wow… Vader igniting his saber gave me chills I loved this can’t wait for next weeks. Love the reaction boys x
Obi-Wan too afraid facing his former apprentice? Can’t say I blame him. To watch your most trusted friend to suddenly turn against you? It is heartbreaking and also terrifying. But now Vader has a score to settle with Kenobi. And I know the cycle of vengeance to know he wants to take his time to make Kenobi suffer, as he did.
This is not about fear, Kenobi is a jedi master! He simply didn't train for 10 years, and it shows. And age is irrevelant as well cause there was count Dooku, and he was a powerfull Sith Lord!
Love that you guys brought Ace in for this series... these reactions have been such a joy! I think Qui Gon finally showing up will help Obi Wan to find his balance within the force... right now, reconnecting to it is creating uncertainty, doubt, and fear .. which I think Vader definitely sensed and that played in to him letting Obi Wan go... to let that fear build in him and for him to suffer with it - which was a much more potent form of torture than anything Vader might have done to him physically... This episode was absolutely phenomenal! Do you think Qui Gon will show up BEFORE the 'final' Vader/Ben confrontation... or not until the end of the series?
I'm guessing that Obi will run and lick his wounds. But something has to happen to Obi Wan now he has been beaten and broken that much. And THAT is when Qui Gon will appear and give him guidance, get him back on the path of the Jedi. He will come back stronger, and we will finally have a proper rematch.
I think Qui Gon will come later after a visit to Yoda to help center and find his old self. We may even get some some Grogu action or back story as he is like 50 years old in The Mandalorian so he would be like 30 in this Obi Wan series. Would be cool to tie them all in and maybe Grogu is actually Yoda's son.... or not 😁
one of the best parts about the vader vs kenobi scene is that Ewan actually talked about how seeing vader coming at him actually brought genuine fear in him during the shooting of this series because he felt like when he was a kid first seeing Vader, so that is genuine fear you see him with during the fight.
It terms of camera work the fight scene reminds me a lot of the Scene 38 Reimagined fan film (check it out if you haven’t) and I love it! Great reaction
I was kinda underwhelmed by this episode tbh. Like, it was really fun seeing Vader, and you can really tell it's him under the suit just by his mannerisms (The shot at 16:43 looks strikingly similar to the shot from RotS, right before Anakin and Obi-Wan clash in front of the big iconic lava eruption on the bridge). But something about the way the fight was being intercut with Leia in the tunnel just kept taking me out of it. I wish they'd cut some of that out, and let the duel breathe a little more. There's already not much tension to begin with, since we know none of them die, and there's still 3 episodes left to resolve the conflict. Just felt like a weak choice in an otherwise really fun episode.
Just seeing Vader’s helmet illuminated by fire was well worth it. Also loved seeing kenobi use his lightsaber. Keep up the amazing reactions The Reel Rejects!!!
I love how Vader let Obi Wan go since he know Obi Wan got friends, so he can lead Vader to a rebel hideout and more Jedis to kill. If there is something Vader got, it's time. Vader is the real hunter. Chills!!
