CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Jack (Tom Cruise) enters the Tet and finds Beech (Morgan Freeman) while Julia (Olga Kurylenko) awakens at Jack's lake house. The two men trigger the nuclear bomb and destroy the Tet.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A solitary drone repairman working on a war-ravaged planet Earth becomes humanity's last hope for survival in this ambitious sci-fi epic from Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes producer Peter Chernin. In the distant future, planet Earth has been decimated by an intergalactic battle against an alien race known as the Scavs. The majority of the mankind has been evacuated, leaving just a few solitary drone repairmen remaining on the planet's surface. Their job is simple - stand guard over the ruins of a once-great empire by patrolling the skies, and ensuring the drones continue to function. Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is nearing the end of his mission to extract resources essential to the survival of the human race when he witnesses a spacecraft fall from the sky. Upon investigating, Jack discovers the capsule contains a mysterious woman. With mission control watching his every move from high up above the clouds, Jack embarks on a spectacular adventure that will not only challenge everything he's been taught about mankind's most defining battle, but perhaps alter the entire course of human history. Olga Kurylenko and Morgan Freeman co-star.

However it it survived, it will never make the same mistake ever again. Which made the scene even more crucial.

Sergeant Costume (at the siege of Athlone): "These planks must fall, this bridge must fall. We need 10 brave men to die for Ireland, after me have I got nine more to fall with me ...and the bridge?" Athlone, Ireland Crucial bridge over the river Shannon. Remnant of Ireland's army was trapped across the bridge, under deadly unremitting fire. Teams of 10 Irish went out, each time calling "I need 10 brave men to die for Ireland with me." Each fighter could only make 1, 2, or 3 strokes before being killed. It's unknown how many "10s" answered the call, but eventually the bridge supports were cut down. My great great grandmother was Irish, a teacher, would have been killed by the British if they'd caught her. Education in Ireland was ILLEGAL. Ireland is arguably England's most terrible shame.

I still love to laugh at people who call Tom Cruise horrible. He elevates every film he's in with his performances, all of them, because he always absorbs his characters no matter how similar, with heavy gravitas and purity. Here in Oblivion, one of the more underrated sci-fi films of all time, he blew it out of the park. Literally ;D such a haunting, epic and shout-out moment. I really wanted to clap when he called "Sally" out, just so BA.

TOO PERFECT, that is the flaw of unlimitedly expanded perfection. No room for errors, or to allow Nature to make exceptions to the rules. Only the goal justified regardless of the means. That ending scene was symbolic of the uncompleted Star Wars moral dilemma. A single Clone becomes aware of the situation around him and takes action to defend the enemies that he is program to fight. Cruise kills all his brothers and sisters on i the Tet to save the remains of humanity. The Tet was driven to survive too and Humanity as well as earth was expendable.

One thing that I think that gets overlooked in this ending scene, is when Tom Crusie is giving the whole 'How can a man die better speech' to Sally, the scene switches to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's character @ 00:58 with the comment 'When facing fearful odds' as the drones approach the survivors on the surface. No doubt the Cruise and Freeman characters are 'dying better' but also shows that this minor character and his partner are willingly to do the same thing.

That scene also symbolizes the story of Horatius (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), where he stands at the Sublician bridge defending Rome (the bunker) against the Etruscan army (the bots flying towards them), along side his two companions. Very good symbolism.

Apparently, I made a HUGE mistake not watching this underrated masterpiece sooner or even when it came out. I’m a sci-fi fan myself and to be honest I’ve never watched this movie because when it came out, the trailers weren’t that interesting and there wasn’t really any hype for this movie at all. Therefore, I wasn’t interested in this movie. However, I saw this on Netflix recently and basically said the hell with it and watched it. This is a really great movie and has one of the best endings when it comes to sci-fi movies. I’m so mad this movie didn’t have any hype causing this movie to be so very unnecessarily underrated.

You are so right at that. In my belief and my world this Julia is exactly how a woman in love is and should be. I think in the movie it is said by Morgan Freeman when he is asked ‘how do you know …’ and his answer is ‘because she believes in him’. A good woman is a powerful thing next to a man.

yes!!! The character is already dying. He's bleeding internally from the Drone attack and he has perhaps 20 minutes to an hour to live anyways. When you're dying, the GREATEST thing you can do is take your nemesis/enemy/tormentor with you. Him knowing that they're setting off a NUKE in the face of Sally ... well, to a dying man, that is an EPIC WAY to go! :D

The romance was actually good though. It made Jack more of a human than genetically modified robot designed by enemy. At least the romance didn't take away from actual plot nor was it any way explicit unlike most Hollywood movies.

id love a backstory of the TET because it seems more like an invasion before its designers arrive. an AI wouldn't go through the trouble of creating clones for so long, just send the drones and keep wiping out everyone. I think it was sent by someone and went rogue, maybe even killing its creator.
