I think these are actually used for language learning and I imagine teaching words with multiple definitions is part of it. I've seen ESL people get confused about things like getting compliments ie "looking sharp today" because they think they're being told that they're physically sharp lol

I once had abscess in my gum, it also swelled up and I went to the dentist, then it shrank. And a few years ago I left out some fries and they shrank! These guys are onto something.
