In this video we continue troubleshooting to try to figure out why my 1989 Chevy Silverado will not start AND WE FIXED IT!
It was the coolant temp sensor. We test and replace it!

I believe this engine has two coolant sensors. The other one is located between spark plug 1 and 3 if my memory servers me correct.

That makes more sense, because the gauge has always read correctly.

Would this be same as 97 vortex engine? I know fuel injection is different.

I have never owned one of those, so I am not sure.

Similar, this truck is a SBC gen 1 and 97 would have a SBC gen 2 Vortec 5700.
