Another video that took too long to make Again, special thanks to @WoodenRailwayDB for scans of yearbooks and pamphlets and the TWR Wiki for all the product images and TTTE Wiki for RWS Covers and UnluckyTug for RWS art scans.
Thank yall so much for all the feedback and support! I actually wasn't aware of some of the ERTL and Trackmaster toys but that was mostly because I focused on TWR items when writing my script and this was on the back burner for quite sometime. Also hopefully as I come more comfortable with voice over work I won't have weird word problems 😅 Anyways cheers!!
What’s even weirder about Catherine is she’s seen climbing the hill in the left and load set without any engine so someone thought she was an engine alike daisy. So that’s funny.
I felt pain when you said “our first narrow gauge engine is Culdee” because Culdee is a different gauge due to the tracks that help him climb the mountain.
I've had a few RWS books as a kid but the only one I had that used a RWS exclusive character was eight famous engines (big city engine) and I had numerous wooden railway toys as a kid and i specifically had Culdee, Neil, Mike (rws at time), big city engine, and D199 so for the longest time I was like "when the hell did these guys appear in the show" I thought Mike was a "bootleg James" and D199 was a gift from my cousins and I thought my cousins repainted class 40 😅
I think it’s a big misconception that people think rickety was a railway series character, but he’s always been a wooden railway creation. He’s not a railway series character, as he’s not mentioned in the books, let alone by name. The fact that a baby blue 8-plank wagon is shown in the toad stands by story, is more a coincidence than anything. It’s also on the wooden railway wiki that he was made up by learning curve.
I love back when TWR made obscure characters like this its a pity they don't do this anymore, understandable though as I imagine they were a lot less marketable
14:03 The Culdee Fell engines actually had very limited story potential, as the stringent safety regulations of their railroad and the limiting nature of their short and sparsely populated line left the Reverend Awry without the material necessary for a second book about the Culled Fell Railway.
I know one other person mentioned this, but Rickety is missing. Overall, though, great video and it was cool you included how these characters were/were not featured in other ranges as well.
@@pizzaplanettruck9761Okay, thanks for the info. I assumed the different colored versions were either a mistake or to try to get consumers to buy multiple? I know the name isn't from the RWS, but is it possible that Roy Wilson or whoever saw the color and thought we might as well try another "from that picture"? Just curious. Thanks!!
I had Catherine, Fred, NW Breakvan and Mike when I was a kid in the early 2000's. Too bad I lost interest in Thomas after kindergarten because it would be nice if I had them today since I'm getting back into Thomas and the Wooden Railway line. I especially as a kid mistaken Mike as a knockoff James and now I feel like an idiot.
15:13 Like all the Thomas & friends characters in the wooden railway era that you mentioned. The railway series only characters that I like are (which have also been part of the wooden trains and other vehicles and rolling stock, counting three before their appearance in the show around the cgi series and also a take n play version of one, an ertl version of another and another version of a same character in for another): Neil, Culdee, Catherine, Sodor railway repair, Rex Bert and Mike (before their appearance in the show, Rex is the take n play one), Frank, Jock (ertl), Sodor china clay cars, Rickety (the chocolate one from the cookie factory cars), Fred, Diesel 199, Bear (mainly use the old style Diesel 199 from 1999 in for him), Wilbert, big city engine, Ivo Hugh and Ada Jane and Mabel. I also like all the train, other vehicles, cranes and rolling stock characters in wooden railway (with take n play Rex, ertl jock and mail van and another Diesel 199 in for Bear) including the 2004 Thomas, 2002 Edward, Henry, Gordon, James, Percy, Donald and Douglas and Bertie, 2003 lady and terence, 2005 Diesel, 2006 Oliver and 2008 Peter Sam, the Sodor story collection trains Logan, Sam and Dustin, the off-track vehicles up to Madge, ten of the construction pack characters and Captain that were wooden railway, and up to Frieda, Gina, Vinnie, Ashima, Yong Bao (who’s mostly part of the wood line and fully coloured version) and Hugo.
rickety wasn’t a railway series character, but he was a creation of learning curve. I don’t know where this misconception came from. The fact that a blue 8-plank wagon was featured in toad stands by is a coincidence.
❤wooden railway growing my collection for the past few yrs believe it or not 2 of the wooden railway items I have is is the 1996 and the most recent cuddled the purple engine not sure how spell c and i know how to spell ❤😊Ivo Hugh I also have I believe either 3 or 4 Wilberts in any number I am so glad that my collection is growing 😀 😊 😄. The 1st 2 cul de you showed in this video of yours.❤😊🎉
Was the engine 16 an ertal exclusive? I know he was released as an ertal but you didn't mention him that's why I was wondering if he wasn't released in the wooden railway series.
