I love this format. PS1 has such a giant library that is worth looking at for all the weird stuff that happened. The 90s were wild. I recommend checking out The Divide: Enemies Within. It's a 3D exploration game, very inspired by Metroid.

I grew up in the famicom/nes era and have always purchased any and every system that captured my interest, mostly sega and nintendo back in tbise days, i still play video games and still play them on the latest and greatest systems, but nothing has caught my imagination and interest as much as the ps1 era. It was just an amazing era and moment in gaming that still echoes in modern gaming today. The ps1 and ps2 era were my favourite moments hands down.

I would never have even guessed ps1 had close to 5000 plus games good lord.

It really puts the volume of games on modern consoles to shame. Especially because it turns out there were close to 8,000 games on the PS1 over ten years, 4,218 for the PS2, 5,129 for the PS3, and just 3,341 for the PS4. The PS5 so far has 627 games after almost four years on the market (at the time of writing this comment) and that number includes eshop vaporware. **these numbers may not be accurate and are open to review

I’ve just binged back through the entire series + japan only series and gotta thank you for what you’re doing! The best thing about the PS1 is how it was a playground for unusual, unique and creative new ideas and these videos do such a good job of highlighting the incredible, strange artifacts of that time. Love the open-minded, generous lens you use with each game. Keep it up! Also, the sheer number of amazing vgm soundtracks I’ve picked up from you is immense 😀

@@SeanSeanson Yeah, I think Blasto's also considered to be a forgotten PSOne game both for high difficulty (reminds Einhänder a bit) and bad luck - main character's voice actor Phil Hartmann was killed by his wife shortly after the game's release. Awesome OST by Chuck Doud best known for Syphon Filter 1 & 2 music, also his first videogame music work ever!

Damn, you know that time has passed when the first game listed brings back memories of it showing up everywhere at the time, but neglect to remember that 25 years have passed since there and the game wasn't that memorable to stick around. I remember the garden maze for Braindead 13 being on the PC demo. I remember the next issue of PC Gamer having a solution for the maze in the demo, and I think it was something like 27 commands, and going through the game in an ideal way would only be fun for other people watching, as you would be stuck reading a series of inputs from a spreadsheet. Use RU-vid to watch a complete run, and best deaths.

Crazy that they put that much work into the hand drawn animation of Brain Dead 13, and then so little effort into the gameplay. Did no one on the design team notice that the Dragon's Lair games had a flash of light at the time and location you were meant to make an input? That simple addition would have made this a memorable game.

Ah, Braindead 13... somewhat reminds me of Phantasmagoria, both being FMV games from 1995 that take place in castles. While Phantasmagoria has more of a gothic horror feel, BD13 has more of a comedic horror feel... I first heard of the game seeing a video which brought together in a compilation all the ways you could die in the game. Somehow these cheesy animated cutscenes really do feel "soulful". The animation in the game has a lot of personality, a lot of flair I think, even if the gameplay is very aged like most FMV games are.

I only realized now that Disruptor came out 10 years before Resistance: Fall of Man, Insomniac's return to the FPS genre after making a Spyro trilogy and a Ratchet & Clank quadrilogy on the PS1 and PS2 respectively. Fun Fact, the reason I played Resistance is because one day I was bored and decided to browse through my brother's PS3 collection, the boxart caught my attention, I saw the Insomniac logo so right away I knew it was quality because I'm a big R&C fan, and I enjoyed it a lot, Resistance 3 is better but I will never forget how I was introduced to that series.

Definitely something I'd watch more of. Stopped at 9 minutes because you said sunset overdrive and I remembered hearing about that game and getting distracted, but im definitely loving your style. One issue, your transitions seem a little long and the music cuts are a little off. Try fade out the music at least to make it a cleaner cut, I think that would make it better than it already is Apart from that, keep doing this, its very fun - Curley

Awesome idea, I did watch VGL videos doing the same thing, marking every game that seems interesting to me. Games specially japan only from PS1 and Saturn always had a little of mistic behind for me, games with weird concepts and mechanics. While I did find a handful of games, I was surprise by how many japanese games from Saturn were VN, sport games, shoji games and quiz games, like 95% of the games were like this which is pretty disappointed.
@SeanSeanson
@SeanSeanson 3 года назад
Thanks for the comment! Yeah it's pretty crazy, I love watching the VGL videos but once you add Japanese games into mix, the library is genuinely 50% visual novels and you have to wade through so many of them to find the good stuff. I learned the hard way years ago when I was younger and bought a random box of Japanese Saturn games and found out about 90% of them were visual novels I couldn't play haha

I too watch VGL and amazing how far that's gotten in the two years since you posted this video with NA/EU/JP compilations, easiest and fastest way to look at a platform's whole library.😁 Oh had to take a pass on the first random title chosen lol, I like some FMV games but have grown tired of reviews of them Ie. I can't hear one more word about Night Trap or Sega CD.🤢 Just saw one PC video that was good "Hidden Gems Top 10 Forgotten FMV Adventures", nice to hear some positive points for the genre and not the usual suspects.😉 Disruptor is a very solid game that was originally slated for the 3DO but came later than PO'ed so it only came out on PS1. I quite like the FPS games of that generation that used polygonal worlds but sprite characters as they aged better and tended to have better frame rates Eg. also see Doom 64. Lol yeah the acting FMV in Disruptor is passable but the sets definitely look like cardboard even in 240p.😄 DDD-3D definitely delivers a polygonal version of Micro Machines one out expect but I guess it stuck too close to the 2D game roots. I find a lot of racing games just before and after that time period didn't push for longer view distances despite the camera pitch angle being able to tilt quite easily as well as zoom in 3D Ie. they could have included a few perspective options.

Hey friend, just a heads up: That "8,000" or "7,000" PS1 game number is wide spread BS. How they got that number was by adding together the total number of PS1 games released in each region together without accounting for games in multiple regions or all three. It's probably closer to 5000-6000, although I'd lean closer to 5k. Good video all the same
@SeanSeanson

Thank you! Seen your other comment too. I make some more vague references to the Wu Tang fighting game later in the series but its yet show up yet for a proper review. I can add it as a viewer pick under your name if you'd like?

I'm doing exactly the same thing with those VGL PS1 videos, so your videos are an excellent companion piece. PS. Is ThorHighHeels an inspiration too? Similar presentation, I noticed.

Great to hear! Really my presentation is the way it is due to my poor graphic design skills. When I started making videos, simple colours and font's were the easier thing to work with and make look ehh... presentable I suppose you could say. So, it's more down to me being a dumb dumb than anything, but Thor is the man and there's no denying he is always will be the trailblazer for *_cool fonts and vibes_* in the RU-vid gaming scene.

Fun fact: In Japan, the Sega Saturn sold considerably better than the N64.

I'm gonna watch up to vol 3 before I comment on my favorite forgotten gems but I will give a shout out to Brahma Force: The Assault On Beltlogger 9. And Raystorm. Oh yeah and Echo Night..

Nice choices, I think you're the second person to mention Brahma Force actually! Hoping I get to check them all out at some point. Thanks for watching!
