Part two of a series of journeys to the big astronomical observatories of this planet. In this video: The Paranal Observatory and the Atacama Large Millimeter Array - ALMA. With some of the biggest ground-based telescopes on earth, the observatories of the European Southern Observatory in Chile are at the bleeding edge of astronomical research. These incredibly complex machines, operating synchronized and precisely in the very remote and hostile environments of the Atacama Desert and Andes, enable deep views into the universe.
All the sequences were shot in only 4 nights in total, but on two trips in 2017 and 2019.
Filmed and edited by Martin Heck: www.timestormf...

@TimestormFilms
@TimestormFilms 4 года назад

Currently still on a Dual Xeon 2697V2 (2x12core), 128GB Ram, 2x1080Ti, 8TB SSD Raid0 and a few big QNAPs with 10Gbit. But currently building a new machine: Threadripper 3990x or 3970X, 256GB Ram, Titan RTX and for now the same 8TB SSD Raid.
@SahilP2648
@SahilP2648 4 года назад
You don't exactly need a high end PC to render a 4k video. Actual 3D rendering and gaming on the other hand is a different story entirely.
@TimestormFilms
@TimestormFilms 4 года назад
@@SahilP2648 you couldn't be more wrong. This is made from raw photo sequences and takes heavy noise reduction and deflickering and took hundreds of hours to render on above machine.
@SahilP2648
@SahilP2648 4 года назад
@@TimestormFilms obviously I don't know much about video editing but it still shouldn't take you hundreds of hours to render this. I understand that you might be feeding it raw images with very large sizes but still. Cause 3D rendering is vastly more complex as compared to 2D rendering. In 3D, you have to basically Ray trace multiple times for each vertex and polygon, with scenes in billions of polygons. And also the physics totally forgot about that). Obviously there are server farms for rendering this and it takes days to render a single frame. But even then you are just doing 2D rendering, it shouldn't be this long. BTW I love your videos.
@TimestormFilms
@TimestormFilms 4 года назад
@@SahilP2648 obviously you have no idea about video rendering as you said. I think I'm not wrong to call myself an expert on timelapse and 8K editing and also how to efficiently use my recources.
