Serving others is how we can bless the hearts of others with the compassion, grace and love of God. But have we become so obsessive about serving that the subject of serving has become distorted? Many believers are admitting that they have been living a performance driven life, which caused the subject of "serving" to become a never ending, machine driven lifestyle that produces burnout.
Have we conditioned people to become obsessive-compulsive when it comes to serving?
Today's broadcast is a very honest breakdown of the subject of church serving. I also address an obsessive-compulsive question that was sent in on this issue.

I searched for this video so i could listen again. Thank you, Mark. On point 👇 "When you live in the slow, you have more ability to make decisions, to say no. When you live in the slow you can evaluate more. Today's killer of people's hearts is constant activities, busyness...and I included in that; chronic, continual, unending serving. To the neglect of deeper relationships, to the neglect of our own hearts. And so, in becoming slaves to the "machine", we don't have the ability to step back and say, "Hmmm, should we even be doing this? Should we even be having this ministry? We just assume we should because most churches do so we should, we have to." But we don't have space to even ponder is God even leading us to do this? The assumption to everything is "yes", so we keep going, keep going, keep going."

I feel it certainly can, and has. I never knew what it was like to “Be” a child of God and to be loved. Instead being bombarded with everything we have to “Do”(serve). Dark and painful place. A Performance driven life hits it on the head.

Hi idk if this can help you or not, but there is a verse in Isaiah that really helped me and part of it says, since thou wast precious in my sight thou hast been honorable and I have loved thee. That is how he sees us as honorable not because of what we have done or our works but simply because we are precious to him because were worth everything to him that he gave his very life to be with us forever out of his love. That is everything were worth to him and how precious we are.

I can identify with this in specific seasons of my life. When we continue to serve out of expectation or habit, we can feel like an automaton robotically going through the motions. It can be a convenient distraction that keeps us from delving into unaddressed heart issues. Our motives can become distorted and feelings of worthlessness can come in from exhaustion. Spirit-led serving will clearly delineate what is our assignment and what is not in every season....discerning what is our portion and what is not... Thank you for flowing in your grace gift for the body of Christ! BLESSINGS!

Thank you for this Mark! Always appreciate your ministry. I reached another point of obsessive-compulsive, performance-based burnout and I realize now how much of a gift it was. Because of it, I had to fall right into the arms of God's grace and love for me. Exactly where I needed to be. Thanks again!

I can really relate to a lot in this one. I easily get sucked into service and it's become the primary way I know how to interact. The Seinfeld quote is brilliant.

Well, get ready to get excited, Mark. 😂 I came to the end of myself last year when I embarked on my healing and freedom journey. But last night, I think I came to the end of the END of myself. Ha ha. Right now, anything I do beyond getting out of bed and dressing is a miracle. I chose last night to embrace this season as an opportunity to LEARN to receive Father God’s love while barely able to function. It’s terrifying, but after I made the decision, I felt myself ascending the love->hope->faith ladder. I actually got a bit excited myself! 😂

@@Hollyfilly Awww!!! Thank you so much! So sweet!! 🥰 My doc appt yesterday went fantastically well-so much better than I hoped. I now have clarity and direction for my next steps forward, including seeing a trauma specialist because that pain is part of what’s holding me back from my physical healing.
