I feel like delays become more controversial when you've stacked months onto your game pass for the promise of these new games. Sure, delaying games eventually leads to a better product, we all agree, but people get upset when you promise the best year Xbox has had in a while and can't deliver (yet again).
I think most people would prefer a delayed game to a completely broken one, but nobody wants a delayed game that gets released broken. A delay also indicates that they couldn't properly budget time. Thus, the ultimate product will never be its best version.
Delays happen for a myriad of reasons, not all of which guarantee a better product for it. A bad game isn't going to miraculously turn into a gem just because it has been in development for a decade. The idea that a delayed game leads to a better product is a common misconception that only serves to create unrealistic expectations in people; "This game got delayed 4 times already, it better be a GOTY contender at this rate."
Usually people complain either way. either they announce too early and have to delay or they don't announce and people feel left in the dark. and then the third option, don't announce a release date and then have to delay it further to an even more unknown date.
Only a small number of people will feel left out in the dark, most people can wait and do something else. I will say conformation that a game is in the works is good, but they release trailers way to soon a times... probably to boost the company@@adrianbland6024
100% agree. However Bioware are leaving it till the last minute to announce DA and people are moaning presuming that it means it's not finished or will be delayed. Can't win either way 😖
@@ChloesDragons there is a difference between last minute and months/years ahead. BioWare has done a terrible marketing choice. They have a character trailer that no one likes, even fanatics say it's different from the actual game. And a gameplay trailer that looked better but has enough controversy itself. It's supposed to come out this month I heard, I hope they release a demo or something

@@balaam_7087They’re not a dude. Also, you are missing the third type. The person who hates everything, complains about everything and personally attacks anyone who demonstrates a remote interest in anything.
@@proteuswest1084 then explain why avowed won't be playable at Gamescon in Germany? It should be close to done if the only reason for delay is the competition. It's not just hate
That def ain't the reason cause if it was that a bad reason cause Xbox hasn't released any games all year but hellblade . Where are the games. How long we have to wait for a game
All games slated to release in this upcoming 6months from xbox was supposed to release in 6 months time, 4 years ago... Also date or no date, moving a release to make room for others just shows the lack of faith in Obsidian from Xbox. Why acquire a company if you're going to Nerf them so your other releases look more Shiny. Avowed or no Avowed, I'm still not playing COD or STALKER. They are different games for different types of players.
@@balaam_7087 Bro I don't know what you're looking at, but majority of the games released were received well with the acception of Flintlock being a little more on the mixed side but with a lot of people still saying it's a fun game but rough around the edges and could have been more fleshed out. Like objectively speaking the games were not low quality. Tons of people have mentioned Path of the goddess is great. Get out of your own bubble.
Really dont think the game is Grounded 2. I think they have done all they need and want to do in that universe. Like what else could they really do? I also don't think it is New Vegas 2 either. That would be a huge project. It would have more listings on LinkedIn if it was that. I expect it is just another new IP smaller project, similar to Grounded and Pentiment, but not related to either of those.
Autumn looks totally booked by CoD, AC Shadows, WH40K Space Marine 2, Indiana Jones, Stalker 2, KCD 2, Starfield dlc I don't think that delay reasoned with Avowed's state but the stacked season
Im sure they delay the game cause of stalker2 delay s9 xbox havemore room they cant releass 2 game in one month...the obsidian alredy start the next project...obsidian is o e od few studio whom making alot of game tody alot of studios making 1 game for 5 years.....bunge has 1500 dev only make on dlc anx another upcoming game...obsidian making outer world2...awowed..and one projrct whom we dont know the name....they release outer world..grounded....pentaitment...in same time many studios didnt make one game
$500 for the best gaming console so I can play remakes, partial games, and garbage. Get it together Microsoft...also these game developers these days have gone down hill.
I feel you on that part about having too many games to play at one time. My best friend always plays new games, although his job does allow him more free time to do so. I on the other hand just can't do that. I'm not a completionist or anything but I do love to replay my favorite games a lot. Especially titles like Fallout and Resident Evil. I'm always replaying those when I can. Still playing all three remakes alongside the classics, I even boot up RE6 from time to time to play some mercenaries. It doesn't include any of the multiplayer games I try to squeeze in here and there, like Rocket League, Madden, COD Mobile and Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel. So rarely will I ever get around to trying out a new game even if it's got good reviews and looks fun from trailers and stuff. Like I haven't even begun trying to touch the games in my back catalog. Like Doom, Elden Ring and Starfield to name a few. It took me almost four years to get around to completing RE7 because I was too scared to get past Jack. It wasn't until I beat RE2R that I built up enough courage to even try. 😂 Then there is the time in-between all those games where I'm working, doing other hobbies or trying to watch videos and movies. Eventually I hope to get around to everything but it's always title after title it seems. That's why I like channels like yours because even if I'm out of the loop in terms of playing recent games, at least I can always count on people like you to keep me up to date.
It makes sense for them to make Grounded 2.0 as an update/expansion rather than having an actual Grounded 2 if that makes sense... Now if Obsidian is working on a new Fallout game then that would be amazing... Personally i would like an update/look at Outer Worlds 2...
Let's just be honest I don't care how long it takes as long as the game gets polished before its official release..... something we've all been asking Microsoft to do from the beginning just don't release the game until it's completely polished.😊
Yeah he actually talks like most people play every game coming to GP when realistically a big chunk of the userbase is focused on a few important games every few months and that's it. No matter how great a game could be, if you're not a fan of the genre then whatchugonnado.
1. Most of us cannot afford play every single title coming out even if we wanted to. I'm not interested in Flight Sim, strategy sims, a Diablo Update or FPS games. That left Avowed and Indiana Jones. For people like me the news, if true, is not a good thing. 2. Saying it is usually best to delay games is just the latest lie being fed to gamers when companies don't deliver on their promises. Xbox already promised a 1st party banger/quarter since Game Pass began, before ever needing to move Avowed.
It breaks my heart that Pentiment didn’t get the love it deserved. (As an art history minor and letterpress enthusiast) it actually blew my mind. Such a fun and unique title with an amazing reverence to history I couldn’t get enough of it.
@@MinosML id be excited but kcd 1 was a boring mess to play at the start then turned into a fun mess in the middle and end and ive no idea how theyre continuing his story in 2. ill give it a go but its not gonna beat avowed for me.
No one has to play a game the day it comes out. If 50 games come out on the same day, then I’ll stagger them out over a length of time, simple. And because I’ll get to most of those games some months later, they’ll likely be available through sales as well.
Grounded was awesome for what it did. Played through that like 3 times but technically only fully through 1 times after it fully released. Only down side was there wasn't much to do after beating it but it was an enjoyable ride with my girlfriend and a buddy from start to finish
To me, it’s obvious that *Dragon Age: The Veilguard* is the elephant in the room here; both action RPGs with emphasis on choice/consequence and companions… While I adore Obsidian, Avowed has no brand cache outside Pillars fans. Meanwhile, Veilguard is the long awaited return of a massive, storied franchise. To me, delaying in light of that is a no-brainer
Yeah but lets say they delay it till early next year. Then theyll be competing against Monster Hunter Wilds, which obviously is way worse than going up against the new Dragon Age. Any actual DA player knows that bioware is a shell of what it use to be, while on the other hand CapCom kills it with Monster Hunter. Avowed will need to be delayed till summer of next year, cause Wilds will dominate the gaming space for the first 3-4 months of 2025.
i think delaying it to not compete with dragon age veilguard which was pann ed at its gameplay reveal so much the hypes dead for it whereas lots of people are pining for avowed to come out im n ot a pillars fan im an obsidian fan and i am desperate for avowed to drop
@@brandonenke2680 I just don’t see the overlap in the audiences that way. Different gameplay styles and - I’d argue - different audiences. Furthermore, this whole thing about “BioWare is a shell of its former self”…well Mark Darrah, who was the executive producer on DA games going right back to Origins, is a consultant on this one. Do you really think he’d be involved, endorse the game if he thought it was sub-par?
@@JazzzRockFuzion Yea I'm willing to bet this new Dragon Age will be decent but it still won't hold a candle to Origins by any means. Also about the audience thing, it won't matter. Monster Hunter is just that big now that it will dominate the month and a couple months after it releases. It's on the level of Elden Ring almost. Yeah sure one games a open world RPG and the others a Open world Monster hunter. But that won't matter. I mean everyone went back to playing Monster Hunter World just from a single tweet. It exploded in player count and that game is pushing like 6 years old now. People who have been fans of the series are excited, people who liked World are excited and honestly it's going to be so big that itll also get alot new fans and undoubtedly will be a runner up for game of the year.
but veilguards gameplay literally came out and is universally hated people dont like it i hate it and i liked inquisitions gameplay. if anything avowed needs more dev time to get better. dragon age needs a full scrapping and restart to be even playably good. i think avowed being delayed is more dev time to polish it even more than it would of been and so that it doesnt get eaten alive by the bigger releases of cod etc evedn if avowed is better cod is bought by monkey headed frat boys in its millions if avowed drops in fall(it was rummoured to be in november this year) it dies hard when cod drowns it.
I don't want another Titanfall situation, so this makes sense to me. Every game deserves their time in the light, so I'm good with the delay. Selfishly wish it was Indiana Jones instead, but it is what it is lol. More time for Obsidian to work on Avowed is 👌
I hope Avowed goes out this year, but im okay with delay if it means a better product. I'm still on my PoE 1 playthrough and wanna do PoE deadfire too before it's out anyway! :D EDIT: It's been moved to Feb 2025
I disagree Matty, they're people who only play a certain genre of games and having diverse portfolio release is ideal rather than having games separately you are a different niche audience who plays everything and enjoys differente genres of games, me personally I only play certain genre of games and having it spread out would be good for someone who plays everything and not Ideal for some who has anticipation for one particular type of game...
@Garudaintruda 100% agreed. If this game wants to compete in the RPG genre, it’s gotta improve polish-wise and perhaps gameplay as well. The whole thing about creating space for another game is just corporate speak bullshit, so Obsidian doesn’t make itself look bad or incompetent or rushed. Read in-between the lines, people.
I was really hoping for this game to come out this year but I can wait. I guess. it sucks That it got delayed but October and beginning of November is really packed so I understand.
Thanks for your feedback and news report. Appreciate it Personally, I don't think Dragon Age will impact as a competitor to the other fantasy RPG that'll be coming up from Sept. To early January. Too much of a difference and rather this Obsidian Game feels more idept into fantasy, so much so that polishing and giving time to adjust seems much more reliable than Bioware, or EA at this point
'If the word of X is to be believed" Ironic that, while some people actually believe that leaks come from the mouth of gods, now even official company announcements are 'take it with a grain of salt'. Just prep for the death of truth thanks to ai.
The premise seems to be that most gamers likes to play all kinds of games and genres, but for us picky gamers the loss of one release could mean we have nothing to play. Personally I have no games I'm looking forward to dropping this year now except Star Wars Outlaws and that looks shaky quality wise. Seems I have tons for next year tho with Avowed pushed back, and ofc I want it to be in the best shape it can be.
I have another theory. They saw Concord and some of the other recent total failures, and want to do a full review of any awful character designs they might have. Like.. I don't know ... "Private Nauki" Hell the main blue guy looks a bit off to me.. but im not sure they can change someone that core.
Don’t get me wrong, Avowed looks like a good game but I’m ultimately disappointed by the change in direction for its development. The first teaser for it was amazing and I was excited until we saw the trailers after. It was a complete change that threw me off
Sooo you're gonna do what we all complain about the game critics doing? Judging a game based on something we want and not what the game itself is doing and aiming for? They literally shifted the game development almost at the same time that they released that first darker teaser lol. Basically as soon they purchased Bethesda, Obsidian shifted and even came out and told us so..years ago. But I get being disappointed with the change, but it's ultimately on us whether we choose to hold that against the game itself once it comes out. And everything we have heard, it sounds like all the changes they have made with Avowed is actually more in line with what they want to make and what they know they are great at.
veilguard was a hesitation for me because biowares being ghoulified by ea but after the shit that was that gameplay safe to say i aint touching it veilguard needs a complete scrap and redo to even look playable. cant wait for metaphor though atlus dont seem to miss even with tactica
Im honestly cool with it being delayed, My backlog is pretty big as is so I'd rather them have more time to perfect the game while I finish my current outer worlds playthrough
Xbox learning from Nintendo is a good thing. Both are stockpiling their AAA releases for weak quarters. How far they have come. Which console "has no games" now?
Obsidian has shown to be so hesitant in jumping into the “big game” as both of their big projects still have a smaller scale to them. Maybe after Avowed wraps up and OW2 is on the way, they can focus on that “big game” project and challenge themselves.
@@DetroitsReaper like what? There's literally nothing to compete. Hellblade 2 flopped and everything else has been delayed outside of the 2024 game awards deadline.
i think it did look good but they were forced out with nothing to really show off yet i think they had to rush something out cause xbox had nothing to really show off this year so avowed was thrust without warning, that made the game look rougher than i think it is. i bet this gamescom theyll show it off when theyre ready to and itll be fantastic. also if your looking at it outerworklds is the game style they were going for and that game rules and i want ow2
after the leaked gameplay that was scrapped and the fac tthe games in developemnt hell and them some i am not. i fear itll be worse than the first game with none of the barely working cult charm
When I say I would like a NV 2 I mean that I would like a fallout RPG like NV but set in a new location, do people really want an actual New Vegas 2? Keep up the great work Matty.

Imagine a Frostpunk style game in the Fallout universe!
Ngl id love a grounded 2. The first one was such a fun way to casually play and build or grind and play with friends. It was like a version of subnotica I wish we got
I agree with moving Avowed. I'm super excited for it, but my November-December is for Dragon Age 4. I get 3 days off for Thanksgiving and a week between Christmas and NEw Years, that will all be for DAV, LOL. I think Avowed wuld do well late February/early March.
One reason why spreading out top games for Xbox is even more important with gamepass. You always want a new interesting game in the near future to keep people signed up to the subscription.
I'm ok with Avowed being delayed a little bit. With the unannounced game I hope it is a New Vegas 2 because we need another 'new single player' fallout game. It would be a huge missed opportunity if there's no new fallout game to be released while the show is so popular. Microsoft and Xbox needs to tell Todd to stop being so stingy, since they are still working on Starfield dlc(s) and ES6, and let another studio work on fallout.
Very dissappointed in obsidian. Thought they would finally create a game to compete with scale and quality of Skyrim. Instead they are gonna pump out small average games over and over. I no longer trust they can build a great game. I thought that just budget was holding them back from making an epic game in the past. They have no excuse here to make a small game.
I don't think they were ever really capable of that. Even New Vegas still has that misguided perception that Bethesda meddled when in reality it was Obsidian that felt they were months behind schedule and had to make cuts.
How about the excuse of having a steady stream of actual releases unlike Bethesda? Or the fact that they are a smaller studio compared to Bethesda and other major rpg studios like CD Projekt and Larian? Maybe they don't want to spend 7 years making a game that could potentially fail and end with tons of layoffs like everyone else in the industry is facing. Sounds to me like they're a studio that actually understands the scope of what they can do and how how to play within that.
I agree with this, first time Avowed was announced I actually thought they would go all out and create something grand, but turns out it's a small little game that plays it safe as always.
I completely disagree. I've seen the exact opposite - games that were delayed for so long that they felt outdated when they finally did release. If it takes you 6 years to make a game, the original foundation it was build on is already 6 years out of date, which is equivalent to a whole console generation in terms of technological improvements. See CP2077, Starfield, etc
I think it is an insult that they announce a specific date that game pass is going to increase after promising specific games that will be released this year, and then delay those games but NOT delay the game pass increase. Microsoft has been promising delivering us AAA games with our game pass subscription at a rate of once a quarter, but yet they STILL have not delivered on that promise, BUT have managed to keep increasing the monthly costs. It's rude, dishonest, and bad practice. And I'm really really tired of it. I am truly regretting that I backed Xbox this generation, and will NOT make that same mistake next time
Im a HUGE fan of Pillars of Eternity. I likely wont get to play Avowed for a long time but im really rooting for Obsidian on this one. PoE 1 and 2 had such amazing stories and lore i hope this game kills it. The petty part of me also wants them to show Bethesda up. Not sorry about it either.
Why is it that people insist on a new vegas 2? Im not obsidian's biggest fan but I always look forward for a new setting with these games, either from bgs or obsidian.
I don’t think New Vegas 2 is an option specifically because of the TV show. They want to give both the game developers and the TV producers space to do what they want.
If it's so ready why not drop it now or in September doesn't seem like anything is coming till October so plenty of time from now till then something just isn't adding up imo
If Avowed is delayed due to polishing, I'm ok with that. If it's delayed to "make room for other games", then screw that. This thinking messes over gamers who don't care for the other titles that are releasing in that window (like myself). Avowed is probably one of the 2 titles currently earmarked for release this year that I was anticipating so to hear that it might get kicked into a later date because some game(s) that I don't really have any interest in just doesn't feel good. In case any are curious, the other game is Dragon Age and with EA's history, that title will likely be followed up with a letter to gamers apologizing for bugs and that they are planning to fix them 'soon'.
Whoa ! Whoa ! On that October list at 3:35 in this video, I don’t see Steel City Interactive’s UNDISPUTED. That’s supposed to be October 8th. Please don’t tell me that game is delayed. Once Undisputed comes out, no other game even matters for the remainder of the year. I’m going to have to Google this one. That will be a huge bummer if Undisputed is delayed.
Since Avowed is the game I was most looking forward to, I am disappointed about a potential delay. However, I'm currently busy playing Zelda TOTK and I probably wouldn't have had the time to play Avowed in the fall anyway. Still excited about Avowed as I was a huge fan of Fallout New Vegas and The Outer Worlds and can't wait for a talented studio like Obsidian to get the money and time they deserve to develop a AAA fantasy RPG.
