I loved this video and hearing your point of view about all things witchy this day in age. I'll be 38 at the end of the month, and I grew up the same way you did. I started actively practicing at a very young age. I didn't have a computer, so I would go to the library or a friends house to use theirs when their parents weren't home. (Most of my friends parents were very religious, so I had to wait til they weren't around to look up anything about the craft) You mentioning Dial up brought back so many memories 😂 Can't say I miss it 🤣 I also agree about the lack of patience within this latest generation. While I can appreciate the beauty in chaos, there is misunderstood amity in "slowing down", taking your time and doing the work if needed. As well as a sense of accomplishment. You make a good point early on about feeling entitled to answers and about consuming content as a substitute for practice. I struggle with a bit of both - I have been consuming content for over a year in the hopes that someone will finally give me hard proof that witchcraft and magic (whatever one's definition of that may be) have any real effect on the world outside of the practitioner. That it's 'real'. I'm a skeptic with an interest in the craft, but I have held off on doing much with my tools until someone convinces me that what I'm doing is effective. I know that rituals and practices like these have psychological benefits, but the more traditional folk practices of my ancestors weren't done for their mental health - they were done out of necessity. I want to bridge that gap between the two to inform my own practice, but that lingering feeling of skepticism and disbelief holds me back. I suppose what I've been expecting from content creators is an easy way out of the struggle. I realize it is rather entitled of me to ask and expect to be given a satisfactory answer without putting in the work of practicing the craft for myself. Consuming books and videos are likely not going to give me the conviction that I'm looking for. Sorry, wrote a novel. 😅
I understand the desire to be handed the answers and proof from others, believe me! But humans have been looking for the proof for thousands of years and to my mind, no one has successfully proven or disproven one path over another. For myself, I didn't really start to get tbe proof until I started to practice, because that's when I started to get results... All I can say is I hope you find the answers you are seeking, but that I think you'll need to seek them inwards, rather rhan outwards. Sounds like you already know that though, so you're already on the right track. 💖
OK ngl I had to rewatch this bc the first time I watched it I tried watching before bed and ended up falling asleep halfway through... The entitlement oh the entitlement, absolutely! My generation (Gen z) and younger, in my opinion (especially my Gen) should have enough internet literacy(?) to know that if you are watching a TikTok or a YT video and have questions you can look it up yourself OR watch the whole thing because maybe...the video will answer your question. This is my timid answer 😂 If you have access to tiktok or YT because of the internet use that same device to look up your question. I'm not a fan of Harmony Nice either. I would say she's the closest thing to a "grifter" that I have seen that got popular. She popped in got a following, wrote 2 books and a deck and within like 2 years after publishing them she falls off the face of the world. I agree that there isn't really any content in her videos, I haven't read any of her work but if it's like her videos then my point still stands. I feel bad for her audience either. I wonder how many people left wicca and Witchcraft because of her falling off. So it seems like I need to watch more Wisdom of Odins videos to see for myself these claims, I've only seen a small handful of his videos...so to me he seems fine then again a small handful isn't a huge net to make an informed decision on him or I could watch those videos about him. I'm loving how deck creators are buying there fake decks in bulk and selling them I'm there own shop so they can make there money that they deserve. I get not having enough money especially if you are young but just save up your money to buy the actual deck. 🍵
