After the chores on Terceira, we leave for The Netherlands. The predicted wind is very light, but practice proves otherwise. On the fifth day, the genoa tears and we have to use an angle grinder to get the sail down. But it doesn't stop there. The wind increases significantly and tortures Eva and her crew. Overcoming waves cause it to leak inside, the mainsail halyard becomes unusable, several reefing lines chave through and the wind vane disappears from the top of the mast. Just to name a few details. Despite all the misery, we eat well and the atmosphere on board is fine.
For years I have dreamed of sailing wherever the wind takes me. In 2020, the time had finally come and Felia and I made a wonderful trip to Scandinavia and the Baltic States. Our Eva, a 2007 Atlantic 43, is an aluminum sailing yacht with lifting keel and built and equipped for trips to places just beyond the horizon. Starting in 2021, I will be sailing south with alternating crews.
I enjoy sharing our adventures with you. I do that both via RU-vid, as well as other social media and of course our website.
