Firefighters responded to the Oceanside Pier around 3 p.m. Thursday, April 25. OFD said in a press release the fire started in a vacant building at the end of the pier. It used to be a Ruby's Diner.
I just got home from Irvine and drove through the area. Half the time the boats with water cannons were shooting the water it didn’t even make it to the pier. I guess we can’t have a new OB pier without getting a new Oceanside pier…
This was the easiest way to "Rid" the building! This building would cost to much to update so a complete rebuild is what was voted on. If you notice, one whole side is permitted to burn, no boats!
Appears to be a nice structure which was well maintained. It is described as 'abandoned'. What exactly does that mean? There must be ownership. Possibly the owner walked away from a mortgage and it is owned by a bank. Was an insurance policy kept in force?
It used to be a Ruby’s Diner but it closed during the pandemic, so nobody has really used the space except for maybe the kitchen, which I think is how it caught on fire in the first place
