If you really want to see the Ocklawaha River in all of it's splendor, run it from what used to be called The Ocala Boat Basin all the way up to, and across The Rodman impound. When I was young and foolish me and a couple of buddies canoed it. It was dark before we got to the dam, but what a memorable trip!
Definitely a good one. I’m planning to do the rest of the Ocklawaha River when it cools down. Starting at Lake Griffin and going north to the St. John’s river.
Absolutely! There are a few good places to camp along the way. I think you can estimate 12 miles from the dam to the St. John’s River. www.jamesjsteele.com/florida-pontoon-notes/our-favorite-pontoon-waterways/the-ocklawaha-river/rodman-dam-to-the-st-johns-river/
It’s about 10 miles from the dam to the St John’s. Some people camp from time to time but not really any good landings without gators and snakes. Absolutely a beautiful trip by small boat and kayak.
