In this episode I strengthen up the cargo hold, the area between the transom and C5 (the main bulkhead.) This involved installing longitudinal floor pieces designed with CAD (Cardboard Assisted Design), vertical supports along the transom, and diagonal supports where the cockpit coaming will be (from the top of the transom to the main bulkhead.) I like to attach the pieces with a little bit of thickened epoxy, then wait a couple hours and add fillets. This way when I am adding fillets, the piece won’t move around on me. Then a couple hours later I come back and add fiberglass cloth. To see how I do fillets, jump to 6:25.

My impression is, that the longitudal reenforcment might better be done first and then have cutouts in the bulkheads instead? It apears a little fiddely to me to have the many smaller pieces in between the bulkheads attached afterwards. Perhaps a longitudal centerpiece mounted first makes things a little easier for the assembly.

Hi Capt., I have used the same type of rope before for odd jobs and my concern would be chafing. Testing for strength may give good results for direct pulling, but any movement of the battery /anchor and slackening of knots might cause ropes to move and rub. Though more expensive Paracord might be be another option? A cheap option is old car seat belts from a scrap yard. You can cut strips to size and width and seal the cut edges with heat. Seat belts can make good handles if you roll it across the width and feed through a 3/4 inch diameter piece of 6" rubber hose, have 3 - 4 inches out each end, then splay open and you can bolt or screw through the ends, or as you have done epoxy and glass over.

Hi this Alan, love your boat build, are you going to reinforce the transom for a small kicker motor?

I think I'm just going to start off engineless and use a sculling oar. Later I may add an electric trolling motor.
