ATTENTION! - I’m not a regular tech channel! I’m a music producer that reviews gear and apps for making music with. I review tech that is related to the above mentioned topic. Sometimes it’s USB-hubs, other times it’s synthesizers. Don’t SUB to me unless you’re interested in that sort of stuff. Check my channel trailer to find out what I do: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M6A0IpOY8aA.html CLARIFICATION! The Yellow “Trigger” knob under ”Mutation” in the channel menu, will set up random triggering of drum notes over time. It’s like randomisation of drum triggers and has nothing to do with The smart randomiser in the left side. I thought it did because I’m stupid! So to clarify even further. Even if you do not insert any notes into the sequencer for channels, if you pull this knob up, you’ll still get random triggering of notes. 😅👍 ❤️ CONNECT WITH ME PATREON ► www.patreon.com/jakobhaq PAYPAL DONATE ► www.paypal.me/jakobhaq INSTAGRAM ► instagram.com/jakob_haq/ DISCORD ► discord.gg/JTmQHAG 🔥 MY PRESET PACK STORE (My Patreons can download these packs without extra charge over at Patreon) MAIN PAGE ► jakobhaq.gumroad.com/ TROOPER 2084 PRESET PACK ► jakobhaq.gumroad.com/l/trooper2084 TIMELESS 3 "2084" PRESET PACK ► jakobhaq.gumroad.com/l/timeless32084 🎵 MY MUSIC DISCOGRAPHY ► hyperfollow.com/jakobhaq 🎹 OCTACHRON APP LINK ▶ apps.apple.com/app/octachron-midi-drum-sequencer/id1453137215 HOME ▶ octachron.de 🥁 DRUM APPS FAC DRUMKIT ▶ apps.apple.com/app/fac-drumkit/id1552568814 AXON2 ▶ apps.apple.com/app/axon-2/id1289090729 AR909 ▶ apps.apple.com/app/le04-ar-909-drum-machine/id1530586523 RUISMAKER ▶ apps.apple.com/app/ruismaker/id1122156899 RUISMAKER FM ▶ apps.apple.com/app/ruismaker-fm/id1143644577 DRUMCOMPUTER ▶ apps.apple.com/app/drumcomputer-synthetic-beats/id1502238351 🎹 OTHER APPS USED PURE ACID ▶ apps.apple.com/app/pure-acid/id1481283602 VIKING SYNTH ▶ apps.apple.com/app/viking-synth/id1085274012 WEBSDR ▶ apps.apple.com/app/websdr/id1558990423 🛠 PROCESSOR PLUGINS USED SATURN 2 ▶ apps.apple.com/app/fabfilter-saturn-2/id1518975160 PRO-Q 3 ▶ apps.apple.com/app/fabfilter-pro-q-3/id1469019469 PRO-C 2 ▶ apps.apple.com/app/fabfilter-pro-c-2/id1468123337 PRO-L 2 ▶ apps.apple.com/app/fabfilter-pro-l-2/id1468295823 TIMELESS 3 ▶ apps.apple.com/app/fabfilter-timeless-3/id1569170071 🎛 HARDWARE USED MC-101 ▶ www.roland.com/se/products/mc-101/ UR816C ▶ www.steinberg.net/audio-interfaces/ur816c/ UNI PRO HUB ▶ uniaccessories.com/products/usb-c_8in1_hub ⏰ TIME STAMPS 0:00 the Devs head us 1:48 Sequence any Drum-thing 3:38 Basics: Navigation 4:48 Basics: Layout & Edit 8:30 Basics: Modulation 9:39 Basics: Random Genenerator 10:52 New stuff: Random Mod Mutation 14:16 Final thoughts
Gr8 overview, the midi cc editing, is just what I need , that coupled with randomise, will have a more organic vibe, that just assigning lfo to midi cc’s 🎉
What better way to start off Sunday morning, then with a Jakob Haq video. 👍🏾 This is definitely an app I need for my two favorite drum apps Hammerhead, and Drum Computer. Although I noticed it’s been out for a couple of years, I see the developers have improved it in the updates. Thanks for the step-by-step vid and will definitely buy 💸 You’re awesome man! 👊🏾 🙏🏾
What sequencing feature do you need beyond the sequencers in Hammerhead or DrumComputer? I have both and while Hammerhead is a bit limited by 16 steps X 8 patterns, I’ve found DrumComputer’s sequencer to be amazing. I’m just curious and learning what others are doing?
@@jeffagoddard Hey! I agree that the drum sequencer in Drum Computer is great, but I also like to sequence outside the app too being I already have a lot of saved custom sounds. I’m mostly using the app for Hammerhead, since I’m able to see a full sequence grid in Octachron, versus the single sequence grid offered in Hammerhead.
@@jeffagoddard Oh yes , you are absolutely right. This both are great machines with which you can already do a lot. but Octachron is for even a bit more in-depth sequencing and for any (drum) soundwith Midi or Auv3 connection. And we have a special kind of randomizer and as far I know the mutation of cc parameters we offer is quite unique in iPad drum apps. So, If you have more questions, just ask and just have fun! ✌️🎶😊
All the vids of Ruismaker FM are before Bram implemented auv3 multi-out. Would love a video of multi-out Ruismaker using Octachron. Thanks! I bought both after this video.
Great video again! 🙌 Can you make an episode on devs who pair their syth apps with a great or shitty touch keyboard and which synths are simply the best to do a live performance on? Phosphor's Keyboard is horrible while I just love the options I have in Sampletank
@@octachron_ios_drum_sequencer yeah i bought it cause i like the "child like" interface (child like in a good way) so I can share with my kids and make noise/teach rhythm etc, thanks yo! ;)
Haq, gotta say that no one handles there ‘more’ page better than you. You have every app used, broken down by type in a handy way to jump ou to the App Store (and slowly get bled to bankruptcy). You’re a true pro and I’m grayeful
Thank you for making this video Jakob. Is that the correct pronunciation of Ruismaker? Now I feel like a pleb! 😂 I’ve kept on seeing demos of Octachron by the developer and kept thinking - that looks like it could be the very thing for the electronic drum stuff I’ve been doing recently. But I haven’t had the time to check it out so thank you sausage - I must get this app. ✌️
Hi, what is that DRUM ACCOMPANIMENT in Keyboard Synth properly called? (yahama keyboard, roland keyboard) I've been looking a kind of app like that in android - ORG 2023 app is not that good
@@octachron_ios_drum_sequencer Sorry - my question is not related to your video here -I'm asking if you know some DRUM ACCOMPANIMENT software / app (for PC or Android) that functions exactly like in physical Yamaha Keyboard and Roland Keyboard - where the Drum Accompaniment has Start and End fills - also, that it has Verse, Chorus kind of beat that you switch anytime
@octachron_ipad_drum_sequencer Is there a way to set note length? I'm trying to sequence Klevgrand's skaka, but I need to be able to set the step "gate" longer than a single step. Is there any way of changing this per step? I imagine it can be something similar to the velocity param, a bit like it's implemented in the novation circuit tracks :)?
It’s true, step number per pattern is definitely on our list! Until then, you can do the work around with the lengths per row as Taeo suggested, if you like to.
This is a big improvement on the Octachron app. Thanks for covering it. It’s still not my control-freak kind of thing, exactly, but the updates make this app very much worth another visit.
Heyhey, actually I also don’t have problems with CC modulation and mutation in Cubasis, but I don’t have installed the latest update of that yet. What is your problem exactly and which Cubasis version do you use?
Thank you for the feedback. Well I loaded the Sitala drumsampler into Cubasis and trigger it with Octachron. Since I don't have a sitala midi cc implementation list, I have to go through each number individually. I select a modulation in Octachron, click on edit and try it out - the sequencer runs but there is no modulation. Velocity modulation works flawlessly.
Hey @@zetafalang thx again. Well I really think it is a problem of the mapping of Sitala then. Unfortunately I don’t have this mapping yet as well. But it instantly works also in Cubasis for example with Ruismaker and our mapping preset for it. Could you maybe try it with Ruismaker or one of the other drum machines we offer a mapping preset for?
You don’t forget me, great :) ok i tried the whole thing with analog 909 with the same result. a pity. But everything is going great with Ruismaker. but who cares - Octachron is such an enrichment. Finally, automation can also be done in the Cubasis sequencer. however, the fun is greater with Ruismaker and the automation in Octachron.
Thank you very much 😊 Well, if you show only 8 Tracks, you can display them bigger + the modulation section in the bottom. And most drum synths don’t have more voices, no? But this topic comes up regularly, so we might increase it to maybe 12, so you still don’t have to scroll? What do you think?
My only complaint/hesitation on buying this app is it doesn’t seem like you can manually swing your drums. The ability to physically offset your drums is something I’m personally looking for. I’ve moved to AUM but still rely on FLMobile for creating my drum midi and it’s a workflow hassle. The closest thing I’ve found would be the midi sequencer “ATOM 2” but the I run into how loose the precision can be when typing in the drum midi and also having to constantly specify that I wanna add a note & not simply select notes. If I’m being picky I’m being picky but I wish someone would give us FLMobile drum sequencer ability to nudge step by step in an AUV3 that I can pull up in AUM. That person is going to get my money no hesitation. For now I’m still trying out Polybeat trying to get into a workflow thru there. Thanks Everyone for all these awesome apps. Im trying to
How is this even a problem for you? Is it because you use FL Mobile for some ungodly reason? I've got it on like, 90% of my sequencers... Why are you acting like it doesn't exist?
I was excited until you hit the part where the number of steps setting is global. That sucks! I love to use odd time signatures, but not for whole songs. I like the main part of a song to be even, but then for some parts and bridges drop into an odd time for a short time and then back to the even time. Does anyone know of any sequencers that have song modes that can have different number of steps for each part of the song?
You can adjust/modulate row length per element ohhhh but you were referring to global settings. Atom Piano Roll 2 always you to have different time signatures per pattern.
It’s true, step number per pattern is definitely on our list! Until then, you can do the work around with the lengths per row as Taeo suggested, if you like to.
Could also just add another one into another channel to get different step lengths. My personal preference is MiRack, which does everything this does and way more… BUT!! you gotta know how to modular. 😅
@@octachron_ios_drum_sequencer another thing I’ve noticed: for elements that need to ring out, like cymbals, risers, foley, etc, there doesn’t seem to be an option to extend the length of a note. I can put notes on every step, but that’s note quite the same as a single note, extending the length of the bar. Being able to shorten the row lengths is super cool though!
@@Taeodoestech Actually this is a thing which is not controlled by the Sequencer, but the drum synth or sampler itself. It is called the “one shot” option. Some synths like eg Ruismaker do it by default. Hope that helps 😊
3:00 you touch on something that gets on my nerves with most drum apps. Having to midi map them at all. We have had the GM Drum map defined for at least 35 years. How about all the app makers just use the GM defined standard as the default map. If they want to add others for something else in addition, go for it.
Thx for the feedback. Well, that is a matter of space of course, because we don’t want horizontal scrolling. Or would you also accept steps only half as big as the actual 32 step ones?
@@JakobHaq thanks. I have the MC101 and a Steinberg interface. Do I need to make changes inside the MC settings to be sequenced by Octacrone? Besides the midi picture you showed in this video…
Too bad no iPhone version. I like making beats on a phone. Groove Rider remains king of drum machines for me, even though it's a fully-featured groovebox.
Yes, sorry, but iPhone version is a project of its own and our Survey said that our users have other priorities for new features. But we have it on our list.
Haha, yes the thing is, you can really do some basic melodies with Octachron and we like it. But it’s specialized in drums and just shows it’s biggest strengths there. Hope you like it anyway 😊
So… lemme get this straight. It has to have a melody to be a piece of music? Yeah I didn’t think so… any series of sound that makes you feel a vibe is music.
