Excellent video. I have some issues with certain instruments not recognizing midi note off from the octatrack and getting stuck. The only way to stop the drone is to turn the instrument off. This happens on the new Behringer 2600 and pro one but not on the model D. Curious if you know a fix to this issue
Lovely sounds! Could you explain a bit more your arpeggiator settings? I have never seen anyone use a SPD of x30, how does this relate to your master tempo? And wondering why you insert four separate notes in the sequencer rather than adding the 3 notes to the first trig in the SRC page? And why does the note LEN change between 1/16 and higher when you show the details of each note (I thought each note should have INF length to keep the arp going) ... maybe this is a whole tutorial in itself! :)
Once you have your Octatrack in command of your synth, you may find that those arp settings don't correspond to your experience with other things in the music world. At that point try some different settings and you may like what happens.
Check Proj button/Control/MIDI Sequencer/CC Direct Connect. Also perhaps you are not running MIDI out to MIDI in of the OT. I am using 2 cables and 2 way communication normally.
@@peacefulpigeon7254 Yeah 2 way communication is a must here since midi is only 1 directional, so you need to connect the midi out of your synth to the OT! :) Hopefully Midi 2.0 will be bi-directional!
I rarely use triangle sound for anything, occasionally for creating a drum sound or something. I think I could create most popular sounds with just saw waves.
@@Digiphex yes you could, basically you need saw and square, everything else can be made from either filter oscillation (sine) or other wave manipulation. However, triangle with waveshape controller can be very interesting, almost saw-like in terms of frequency content. I love BoC and those pads and sounds, and I find most of them too mild for saw - rather use shaped triangle for it, or even saw-triangle (very Sequential/DSI unique wave).
Cool video ma man! Question - how do you record midi but on different tracks using the same synth? Im using the 0-Coast but the problem I get is that the sounds I record through Chromatic mode keep changing as I play with the 0-Coast knobs on the other track. For example the bass sound that I recorded in track 1 changes when i try to record a melody on track 2. Hope you can help?
I am not sure I understand. But O-Coast probably has only one MIDI channel so it has one note data stream and one cc values stream at one time. So to play two different things you need another MIDI channel on track 2 and another synth.
@@Digiphex The 0-Coast can play different sounds - so my question is how do I record those sounds on different tracks to make a song? Im using the OT Midi to play/control the 0-Coast. Maybe I should make each track a Thru machine?
hello, thanx for the video! i am trying to record midi events in octatrack playing the synth keyboard, not the octa triggers..but i cant seem to find the right settings. Can you help? thanx!
This should do it but I just mention that my full notes are on Patreon. Excerpted from my notes: External MIDI Device Setup MIDI IN Project/MIDI/Channels/AUTO Channel set to the channel your main MIDI in keyboard is set on. This will play notes into the active track to record MIDI on the active track and play devices on the active track. *** NOTE - MIDI is recorded only with REC + Play and flashing record. MIDI OUT - Communication from the track to devices on MIDI OUT MIDI button lit, track button lit, double tap SRC, Track MIDI Note Setup CHAN is referring to MIDI OUT. Have to set channel and CLICK encoder. You can play the MIDI IN (Example via AUTO channel 1) and hear some other keyboard or device on the active Track via MIDI OUT on some other MIDI channel set here and record the MIDI. Other MIDI Options Project/MIDI/Control turn audio cc in off and turn audio note in off (unless you want to chromatically play samples using the ext keyboard then note in “Standard” and make sure you only play C5-C7 or lots of control items happen. Play external keyboard in to a sample chromatically - you can use only 2 octaves of your keyboard, use Project button/MIDI/Control/Audio note in “standard.” Play the sample not in MIDI mode, without regard to the MIDI channel of that track, it is the MIDI channel dedicated to MIDI/Channels/Auto that will play the sample on the track, for Bass Station it is octave setting 2 that makes C5-C7 play the notes. In the “standard” setting it makes no difference chromatic mode or not.
Thanks for the upload. You rock! Safe to assume this will work for the MKI too? I f'ing love my Octatrack, but the UI can be convoluted sometimes. Makes me feel dumb. :)
In your experience 8track is used better with a daw or standalone? I have all the elektrons except the octa as i feel as a standalone it wont be any better vs a simple sampler sequencer by korg for ex. I dont even have a daw to be honest. Never gonna. Thoughts? Shall i pull the trigger on one or go with an akai mpc or force proven live machines to blend em with my other elektrons U the best
I think the idea of Octatrack is to forget the DAW and actually live perform something. What I like about it is that it got me thinking in different ways about chopping loops and stuff and performing my own material. The con is that the audio quality and effects are not good. I am exploring ways to make all this OT happen in Ableton with a controller. Getting close. The MPC is not really for live flowing remixing and has no A/B morphing type of thing. They definitely could change it though, but don't seem focused on the Octatrack market. Haven't looked at the Force.
@@Digiphex i aint using daw or pc in general to my projects and very rare samples from others. Never had the sampler or looper experience but all people swear by ot despite its learning curve also elektron sequencers and tight jitter free clocks are prolly the best the market can offer . As for sound quality i do agree with you. I has a rytm and four . The sound quality wasnt nowhere near in hand with the price
Perfect and thank you. Ordered from Amazon and arrives tomorrow and so does my OT MKII Black 🤗. 46 🎉tomorrow yay. I’ll watch your tutorial again before I have a play. 👍🏽
I think it could do it but life would be easier with a Keystep Pro if you must do all without a computer. And of course, a computer with Ableton is the ideal sequencer.
@@Digiphex I have been on a mythic quest for the the ultimate hardware sequencer for the past year.... the computer has issues sequencing outboard gear, at least with my setup... just timing issues really.
@@xisotopex I think Octatrack is more a performance tool. It is good for a live setup somewhere besides your home because you have a mixer, sequencer, sample player, modulation, remix on the fly, dj AB slider, effects all in one. But none of those items is spot on for recording in a studio or something.
@@Digiphex yeah thank you, I think I found the sequencer(s) but the octatrack is still in the back of my mind if I decided to do all in one sample only glitch fest tracks
