Mattias is probably the easiest of all the final character story bosses but it's fun to listen to him shout crazy stuff during the fight. Follow me on Twitch: / junglechief87
I wish they had these voice acting segments in all of characters. I finished Ophelia's story first so I was slightly disappointed when I found out the other bosses didn't have this dialogue.
I polished off the chapter 4s of my four characters just before the game left Game Pass. Olberic, then Ophelia, then Cyrus... then Tressa. Got a lot less intense at the tail end, really.
@@Vyhox2000 This, I'm a little wierded out because Therion had a Battle Banter yet it wasn't voiced. And the rest didn't. Was this because it was rushed...? It didn't feel like it when the rest of the game is very polished. So I wonder why there isn't Battle Banter for the rest of the characters, save Alfyn and H'aanit's fight. I can imagine how badass Primrose's or Olberic's could be, with this music in the background.
@@ShoutmonXW Cyrus fought an abomination so it kinda makes sense why he didn't get a batter. Tressa I also understand why she didn't as well. Primrose and Olberic...yea don't understand why they didn't especially primrose.
Basically, Mattias will constantly use magic attacks. So to make the fight easier, use reflective veil on everyone. It reflects any magic attack used on your party, basically implying they are killing themselves. That’s how Ophilia never died. I even had Ophilia at level 26 and she never died.
@@higlydigly8153 You can make this more absurd. Have any Dancer in your party cast Sealticge's Seduction on Ophilia, so that Reflective Veil affects your entire party. Then have her fire off a Max Boost Reflective Veil. Boom, your entire party can reflect up to 4 magic attacks. If you're feeling brave, have your Cleric(preferably Ophilia, because the setup for this is very SP costly) cast Aelfric's Auspisces, so the Veil is doubled. Keep repeating this process until Mattias(and his goons) take themselves out.
This boss fight is probably the funniest fight to cheese, because if you bring Primrose along, you can do what I call "Sealticge's House of Mirrors": 1. Primrose(or any Dancer) uses Sealticge's Seduction on Ophilia(or any Cleric with Reflective Veil) 2. Have said Cleric use Max Boost Reflective Veil. 3. Have the other 2 party members(Alfyn makes this much easier) constantly volley these 2 BP boosting items so they can keep up this cycle. And voila, provided nothing goes horribly wrong, all of Mattias' attacks will bounce right back at him, dealing an approx. 15,600 damage a turn. Bonus points if you get him to break his own shield.
I used in my battle Cyrus(main hero) Ophelia, Tressa and H'aanit to defeat him, he was so piss easy to beat man, I didn't even died, all without secondary classes.
In my opinion, this was the best villain. His voice acting was amazing, and the final boss music with his and Ophilia's banter was amazing. Kudos to both VAs.
@@higlydigly8153 Oh, I know. I more meant that the banter worked very well with the music. Few of the final bosses have any form of banter between the two characters
Mattias's VA is the same as Therion's - Christopher Niosi. First time I've ever heard a vocal performance from him and HOLY SHIT HE'S GOOD. Mattias is just so slimy and I love it.
All I can say is 5:53 - 6:38 is almost perfect dialogue to music synchronicity. His menacing, maddened voice screaming “and her Savior!” right before the intense climactic second verse ending of this boss theme. It’s just too good.
I can just imagine Redeye having a moment of lucidity while fighting H'aanit. Or at the very least, it should've had one when you win the battle. Definitely would've done this for Werner and Olberic, though. Not to mention Cyrus's final boss.
I fought this one right after Darius, I could understand why Redeye and the Ogre Eagle didn't talk during the fight but I was really confused why Simeon, Werner, Esmeralda, and Lucia didn't. Probably why this and Darius were my favorite chapter 4 bosses. The boss music also hits a lot harder when you haven't heard it 10 times before.
Mattias’s voice actor was clearly having the time of his life. And yes, that’s Nanoha Takamachi (you can hear her more in the flashbacks), Shantae, and your’s truly as Ophilia. At Level 60, everything’s pathetic but the super bosses, the Devourer of Men, and the true final boss. I didn’t even need H’aanit. Though Olberic WAS a Warmaster, and Tressa was a Runelord. Actually, I’d say Esmerelda put up less of a fight than this guy...
@@Sean-fz8if Fuck that dire wolf lol. After fighting him for nearly a half hour, when his health got to red, he (and his minions) just went apeshit on my party. Cyrus went down early, Runelord Tressa just couldn't stay ahead of the attacks enough to cast Sidestep the whole party... and when Warmaster Olberic went down (I never had him reach 0 until this point), I thought I was done... all that was left was Therion at like 790 HP where one hit could kill him and give me Game Over. I thought the battle was over... but then he dodged FIVE physical attacks in a row. I shouted "MVP! MVP!" at the screen, he was totally clutch. He fully revived Olberic who then worked on reviving the others and the battle ended very quickly after that... the wolf had only around 2,000HP left. Easily the most entertaining and tense boss battle I've ever had. God, I love this game!
@@Sean-fz8if I will also say that the Dire Wolf should go f*ck itself. It took me more attempts to kill it than the true final boss. I was underleved, yes (I was level 48), but come on, he did so much damage to the whole party with a single turn. I had to use a party who all had Saving Grace to win, along with Alphyn to concoct the 9999 HP mixture.
@@racoonmaster5713 yeah, I won the final boss first try, diddnt even die at the boss rush beforehand (although i did a lot of researching for weak points) that dire wolf was much harder. Also the Guardian of the first flame (ophilia first boss) becuase it was one of the first bosss I fought and I didn't think of using defend and olives of life's against the dark wisps
I love this game, but I wish they put as much dialogue into the other chapter 4 bosses as they did with this one... spoilers: Just bc this one leads more directly to the true end boss
@@nicogalax i think they realise players dont take their time and nuke the boss in the first few turns. I never knew Mattias had much more dialogue because i killed him too fast.
@@nicogalax I appreciate that although there are two O's in Octopath (and two T's), they set all the characters' starting positions in a clock-face, so you can see exactly which character is which letter.
I gotta give it to this game, Ophilia did NOT start out with the best bosses in my opinion. Bar none I think she ENDED with quite arguably THE BEST route specfic final boss. The build-up. The voice work both before and in battle here. Just *chef’s kiss*
When I'd heard this on my first try on this battle I was like "Wanna know the trick called power of friendship? _BE MY GUEST!" He wiped my ass lots of time until I discovered reflect...
This would’ve been a great concept to have in every boss fight, but it makes a ton of sense for Ophelia specifically. Her kind words and being able to guide people are her most important attributes, and this fight really accented that. Also, both voice actors KILLED it, especially Matthias’
This took me 3 attempts. Then I realised Primrose's final skill... Every magic bounced back at him. I laughed at the chip damage he receives. Then he was beaten by poison...
Ive finished off one of the secret job bosses with poison, though I forget which one. Not necessarily a bad strat in my eyes, considering poison leeches a percent of max HP and those suckers have around 200k max health each
Sealticge reflect is honestly one of the best parts of the Dreisang fight. If you get lucky with the initial turn order, you can break him and get max reflects on everyone before he even has a chance to do anything. Divine Majesty doesn’t dispel your existing buffs, unlike Steorra’s single-target move Restore Balance, so you can just chill and watch his own spells chip him down while sustaining literally no damage whatsoever!
Funny thing: this fight could of been so much easier if you used primrose or another character with the dancer skill to use the dancer’s divine skill on Ophilia, then she could do reflective veil on everyone in case Mattias uses his magic spells.
I mean, I only had a couple divine skills for the characters I'd been using the whole game and this boss wasn't threatening. I just did reflective veil with her because it was her only meaningful way to contribute.
I never once have two scholars in my team. Nice way for using the Alephan's Enlightenment. And the Hired Help! It costs money so I didn't know it's such a useful skill, too.
Bit late to the party but it's so helpful. A +2 Mercenary is a 3(sword) skill on all enemies, and gives a +6 Phys shield; for 150g. Having Tressa in the party finding "leaf" as you run around basically makes the skill pay for itself.
I had Ophilia as Scholar and Cyrus as Cleric. With 2 clerics I casted Reflective Veil on everyone like crazy, and plenty of damage was done by Mattias himself when everything was getting reflected back to himself.
wow i fought mattias with level 60 sorcerer cyrus and i killed him with one light spell, i wish i didnt do that so i can experience the other two banters
Came here because this dude has been giving me mad trouble. Must have been my team set up. Also me forgetting reflect was a thing. Thanks for the reminder 😂😂
I used this battle as inspiration for my Kingdom Hearts fan fic, both her For Light theme and the Battle at Journeys End were used as well. It pulls at your heartstrings, which is what my fan fic did as well. I cant help but tear up a bit at the feeling in her voice when she talks.
I literally just spammed the hell out of Essence of Pomegranate and Aeber’s Reckoning to beat this guy. I think disabling ALL magic skills was a little too over the top, but otherwise this was a really satisfying boss battle
I can’t wait for more stuff like this in the 2nd game, because from what I saw in the trailer, the bosses have animated attacks, so they could probably have voice acting within them
I know the feeling, but the game came out in 2018, so it is expected that people generally don't care or aren't careful about spoilers 5 years later ^^;
This game had incredible voice acting... Therion/Mattias and H'aanit I hadn't heard before, but loved. But when you think that Ahri from LoL and Scorpion from MK are also here, it's just mindblowing. And so good.
@junglechief87 He's either the easiest or the hardest, depending on how you deal damage and heal. Pretty sure he's the only boss that can cut off magic (besides Galdera), which includes more or less all elemental attacks and all healing skills. So for that reason he's kinda a noobtrap. He hits you with that debuff at the perfect time you're fckn dead.
i'm having some immense trouble with this boss, my party doesn't output enough damage in time to kill him before he starts using skills that stop me from using magic or before he starts summoning more enemies to protect himself
well i was able to beat the boss after i got two of the advanced classes(the sorcerer and the starseer) but before i had primrose as a scholar, olberic as a theif(primrose being the high magic damage and olberic being the high physical) then i had therion as a dancer so that he can distribute both buffs and debuffs and then ophelia as an apothecary as the main healer
I would have changed one of those secondary jobs to merchant. Merchant and Scholar are the best two base classes. I would say every class brings something to the table and they are all worth using but you should really always have a scholar and merchant.
I’ve lost 3 times to this guy-I did a little better each time, getting through three waves of summoned help, but not been able to finish him, though I did get some new ideas from this video. I still think some of the enemies in this game (boss and regular) are inappropriately powerful relative to the “danger level” of their area. I suppose they’re (somewhat) fair if you know a lot about every character and class, but I still think they need to be scaled down in places.
Pretty sure I had the Bow from the snake charmer, the most powerful is the battle-tested bow which I don't believe I had here. Fully boosted on a broken enemy shouldn't be too hard to break the damage cap at his point. Also pretty sure I'd used some of the permanent stat boosting items on H'aanit at his point. What do you have as her sub-class? That's pretty relevant for stats.
How do i even freaking beat this boss before he can use the infernal flame skill that prevents me from using Magic skills, it’s seriously starting to piss me off
Having 2 scholars for blizzard, and a hunter for leghold trap definitely helps. Boss tends to get 2 turns first after recovering from break. I beat him last night with Ophilia (Dancer) at 52, Therion (Merchant), Alfyn (Warrior) and Primrose (Scholar) at 47/48. I got wiped easily when my party 7 levels lower, so I explored/leveled for a bit then returned. Large soulstones helped me get through the first 2 rounds of summons, and reflective veil was a lifesaver in the second half. Having 2 dancers and no hunter made it harder on myself, I just didn't want to change my party up.
If you're still struggling / for others in that case, overuse Ophilia's Reflective Veil and Tressa / a Merchant's secondary to constantly feed her BPs. This boss basically can't touch you if you have a reflective veil up. I got Ophilia to learn the half BP cost from the merchant tree and the 25% chance replay from the Hunter tree. Once Ophilia used Aelfric enlightenment on herself, she gave 2 to 8 reflective veil to a member of the team each time she could play, with the extra BPs given by the merchant. It damages Mattias for like 6k5 when he AoEs you and everything gets reflected. Additionally, if you have reflective veils up when he summons the sorcerer, if a sorcerer uses a flame AoE on your team, it will reflect it on his head and HE'S WEAK TO ITS OWN MOVE TYPE (fire). Meaning he'll be in stun range (3 shields remaining) merely after attacking your team. Honestly this fight I barely attacked, I just waited for the boss to kill itself.
