I represent the population of earth when I say: thank you for the public service. Preserving art is a noble cause, and may all your efforts concerning such unselfish goals be fruitful and blessed. That said, "Octopuff in Kumquat" is a bit shit. I'll go have a smoke and think about it some more though.

Now I see why RLM couldn't make fun of it... its way too innocent and pure...

It really picks up around the 9 minute mark.

No joke, I actually saw this a long time ago in elementary school and was actually really looking forward to seeing the RLM guys talk about it, so you can imagine my disappointment when they decided to ignore it (especially since I couldn't find it online).

The best part is when he's introducing himself. Cool, dissonant jazz tune.

Despite the general awfulness that is Octopuff in Kumquat, this type of animation is one of my favorite styles. The watercolor characters and shakey lineart make me think of an old Sesame Street sketch, or a picture book.

Hey, thanks for uploading this! It was fascinating. I'm sort of glad RLM _didn't_ discuss it because I wouldn't have searched for it otherwise .. and I would have missed out on an animated treasure. Makes me think fondly of the weird animations that were featured on Sesame Street and classic Electric Company.

Oh, wow! Haven't seen this short since Kindergarten in 1989! They actually had it on a 16mm projector.

Not sure why RLM skipped talking about this one. It's old and weird and all, but there's enough stuff in here to justify a discussion. I like the art style, it looks like it was colored in with markers, it's endearing. Pretty sure taking cigarettes away from people who are already addicted is a bad idea, though.

As it turns out, the reason they didn't review it was NOT because there was nothing to talk about.

I just came from randomly rewatching the episode of rlm whereupon this video was first brought to the attention of I assume almost all of us. When you think about how many different video programs of this nature are already lost to history? It does make you wonder what's out there that no living human eyes have seen anymore. Hell of a weird thing for a harmlessly Charming video for kids to make me think about, but all the same. And I'm just thinking the last hundred years or so or heck the last 10 or 20. There are probably a million different pages on the internet that are totally lost to time despite the standard view that "once it's on the Internet it's around forever". There's certainly plenty of lost media when it comes to movies or music. And like, the burning of the Library of Alexandria probably destroy 90% of a vast amount of content that we would have had to have studied in literature class otherwise haha.

It's nothing particularly special, and it's probably not very effective...it's pretty cheesy, too...but I dunno, I enjoyed it. Worth watching after hearing RLM mentioning it. At least for me! And it was uploaded on my birthday! Happy belated birthday to me!

This is cute. A bit flaccid though. I wonder how many kits went home and tried to get their folks to quit smoking by offering them fruit and flowers. I feel it's almost dangerous to portray that kids can convince people to stop smoking this easily.
