Could irradiation therapy at infancy (1953) for hyperplasia of the thymus be a precursor to MG at the age of 60 with NO thymoma evident in a 66 y/o male? Radiation was commonly used in the 1920-1960 for any enlarged shadow in the mediastinum, in order to avoid respiratory complications where the enlarged thymus would create pressure on the Trachea etc. This procedure was stopped after many recipients manifested later on in life with , Breast Cancer, Thyroid Carcinomas,

Thank you so much, Dr. Lee. I am researching for a family member who has been suffering with the ocular form for about 20 years. The thymectomy did not help and it has been very difficult to treat. Now there is involvement in both eyes and we are doing whatever we can to help restore function. I hope it's ok to contact you at your office? Or maybe you could refer to another specialist for this? Most basic treatments have been tried and failed. Prednisone has not been tried due to type 2 diabetes.

Is there a way of predicting (either thru blood work or otherwise) that a patient suffering from ptosis AND diplopia will progress to general Myasthenia Gravis?

I've never heard of one, but I will say this. If you've been diagnosed with oMG, then absolutely do a full inventory of drugs/supplements/foods. Make sure there isn't anything that's contraindicated for generalized MG. I speak from experience. I started out with oMG that turned into gMG. I was on a blood pressure med that was contraindicated for gMG and when I finally convinced my GP to switch to something else, I immediately saw a drastic improvement. This was before I was officially diagnosed with gMG. I really believe that med triggered the gMG...

I’m still learning but I saw this on Cleveland clinic: Blood antibody tests: About 85% of people with myasthenia gravis have unusually high levels of acetylcholine receptor antibodies in their blood. Approximately 6% of people diagnosed have muscle-specific kinase (MuSK) antibodies.

Ptosis is only allowed because the P is silent :)

Same here first tou must visit your eye doctor and then the neurologist. I had in blood test been positive in MG but before get the results I been prescribed from the neurologist medrol cortisol 16mg treatment for 15 days starting with 3 pills in 5 days 2 pills twice per 5 days and ½ pills twice for another 5..my diplopia symptoms after 5 days start to gone also the weakness and dizziness on walking. at 10 days I totally recovered it seemed it worked unfortunately lasted only 2 months..including watching the diet in salt and sugar. Now it came back but I don't have ptosis on my eye only diplopia due the eye can't follow the other movement and is frustrating. I try now mestinon 60 mg3x 6 hours and prednisone 5mg 2 pills per day for 15 days I will give you details I'm only in second day I feel slightly better mostly afternoon till morning I hope i helped you little keep it up🙏
