This is gonna be my first VR headset, very very hyped Edit: holy crap this got a lot of attention but unfortunately i may now be branded as a traitor. I traded for a Quest with Oculus link for the portability aspect after owning the rift s for about 8 months. Was great and sometimes i regret selling it but i still have a blast in vr no matter what headset Ok final edit: for the people asking which i prefer, it depends on what you want. If you have a meh PC and want PCVR, go rift. With the party link and my pc setup (rx580, i5, 8gb ddr4) i can no longer run blade and sorcery without massive stuttering and other issues to the point where i cant play it and its heartbreaking because that was my all time favorite vr game and now i cant play it until i upgrade my pc and get the official cable. But if you just want portability and you have a really good pc set up for link then hands down go quest
Whenever I’m trying to set up something, I always hear this “This is probably the easiest thing to set up.” Every time though, I have the most difficult time trying to set that thing up
Wow, thanks for this information. I'm only 17 still live with my mother and we're renting so house modification is obviously not allowed. That includes sticking thing onto walls that could possibly remove paint. From what i see, no external sensors are needed and it's basically plug and play "after install the software's that are needed", and it works with steam. I'm truly looking forward to have one of these in my possession.
I just want to say thank you for being so thorough in your videos. I was worried about adding a DP extension cable and you tested that. I wanted to see pass through and IPD adjustment and you covered that. I'm always impressed by the quality and scope of your videos so thank you very much. May I ask which DisplayPort extension cable you bought? Was it just a standard 2m passive cable?
@@minkyist 😐 welp I get eyegasms looking at the index you may not think it’s the best but come on the index is the best when it comes to looks you have to admit
I really can't wait for an offical, fully supported, treadmill to come out. The moment i can move around in games by walking or running in place I'll be 100% satified 😌
2:20 if you just came here to get a look at the adapter because you lost yours and need to remember what it looks like... that was me anyway hope this helps somebody.
Same lol It really shows how far we have come. From being connected and tethered to a pc to only having to launch virtual desktop and being connected to a pc wirelessly is just amazing. Also the vr games that has came out lately is just crazy
@Brandon Quist Well mate, I have been saving money to get a PCVR since I got my PSVR at launch, I skipped the 1st gen rift/Vive as didn't make sense to pay more for few extra pixels at an early stage, was really looking forwards to Rift S but it was disappointing mainly for the software IPD which I struggled with when using my PSVR due to my high IPD, so my next option was Vive cosmos or Pro but then Valve hit the spot with their specs, the amazing next gen controller and the price in comparison to the Vive pro. I am more existed to use VR with my Unreal projects than for games.
Thanks for the tip regarding passthrough. Biggest criticism I had about my Rift S was the fact you couldn't tilt the visor up to see when you need to, unlike the WMR headsets. But with passthrough mapped to the button, it makes playing for longer periods easier (I can easily find my Doritos packet :).
still using mine in 2022 its perfect for sim racing which is mostly what its used for so no need for wireless that the quest 2 offers im very happy and there some good titles on the way too i like the quest 2 and will get one but ill keep the rift s aswell just thinl the link cable should come boxed with the quest as i am a pcvr gamer.
I had the Rift S for a week now, and it’s pretty awesome! It has some cool features, runs smoothly, fits comfortably on my head, and just looks very cool in my VR collection!
This is gonna by my first VR headset so no matter what i know i'm gonna love it and be blown away. Yes it doesn't come close to something like the valve index but like i said, as my first VR headset and getting to experience proper VR and not one of those samsung phone VR, it's gonna be a whole new discovery for me can't wait! Bought it mainly for Sim Racing
May want to hold off a bit. With the cheap Oculus GO display and optics, and not much else, the Rift S is very cheaply made, ripe for a price drop in short order.
@@bliglum even so, it's perfect for newcomers because it's a new headset with some cool new things like inside tracking and very easy setup, it may not be an upgrade, but it is slightly better than the original rift, I don't recommend original rift owners to buy the rift s though
@@econnak7909 Easy set up Inside out tracking isn't new, it's essentially the same system Lenovo used on their own WMR "Explorer" headset, hence the collab. But Rift S does have a few extra cameras to increase coverage.
Thank you so much, I was thinking about getting Oculus Rift S, as my room made it hard to play VR with my HTC Vive, and it was a hassel to setup to start playing. I was a bit skeptical about the Oculus Rift S but this video made me know that I needed to buy the Rift S.
Thank you very much for this review. It was informational and has convinced me to purchase my first VR system. But if a shame that the Oculus Go lenses go around for $70 but I’ll make do.
He does have a computer right? And not just a weak laptop, he would need a pretty powerful pc. Just making sure you know, since it’s useless without a pc
Thank you for this video. I might be getting a good pc that can run vr at the end of the year and was looking for a greatly priced vr system and I think I know that the rift s will be perfect for me. Thanks Mike :)
@@VirtualRealityOasis This is great to hear, Mike! I already preordered mine and a couple weeks ago built a new pc with a friend. So happy to hear you like it!
Thanks, I was wanting to get a rift s and saw "display port" and my thought was "what do you mean by display port, there have been several display ports" the ones off the top of my head being the VGA and HDMI. When I first installed my graphics card I didn't realize that that odd port that wasn't an HDMI was literally just called a display port, but when you showed the connectors I thought "wait a moment, I recognize that shape, it's that odd port that I didn't have a name for yet!"
ya, its mostly for good gaming pcs with vr ready graphic cards. i would suggest a quest 2. its made by the same company. it is wireless and can easily be set up with a phone. the rift s recently got discontinued. the quest 2 is 299 USD and can be bought on oculus.com
I'm really jealous since my parents can't afford the rift S. I can't try VR so I go to a VR arcade when I scrape up enough money :'( but I'm happy you got it!
If you need some help getting a VR headset, then maybe for your birthday ask for money from your relatives and friends, save it up and get a headset. Or if you are old enough then maybe get a job and save up that way.
@@MegaLPlover probably cost alot, to make the price competitive vs the Quest. I really dont think the 80Hz wont be much different. Might actually be good as my rig can run it hopefully better. Lol
Important question. Does the software based IPD adjustment actually work just like a real IPD adjustment physical slider? My ipd is 68mm which is on the wide side, so I need to know for certain if the software ipd adjustment will really adjust for me, or else I may feel sick, or won't see the full clarity and resolution of the oculus rift s, which is seriously important. This only factor is what's keeping me from pre ordering one, because if my eyes cannot handle the fixed lens adjustment(I think it's 62mm), I won't enjoy using it and won't be fully immersed. Update: Valve Index preorders have been pushed back now to shipping August 31st. I couldn't bear to wait even longer so I just preordered the Rift s on Best Buy. I cannot wait! I will give my personal feedback on whether the software ipd adjustment works or not asap when it comes out.
@@TJRSIM I already know my ipd, my question is if the software ipd adjustment is just as reliable as a physical ipd adjustment. Unfortunately he didn't adress this on his video. :/
@@MrAizen666 This is not physical. Rift S is 64, so it should be ok with your 68 ipd. Lens are better, you don't have to be exactly at the center of them
@@TJRSIM I'm at 72 myself, Mike said he was 60 so asumidly 60 through to 68 is going to be good. . At 70 you are 3mm out per eye and I'm 4mm off center of the lens. Edited.. Looking through the OGO everything is in clear up to the point 72 and slightly beyond through the lenses, beyond that it starts to blur.. It goes well inwards but to what point I don't know I think the lenses might be ok so the digital adjustment will widen the field so I think it will be fine.. The OGO is quite playable but I do notice its not guite right on the vision..
@@Turbotef i'd have to upgrade my graphics card to a 2080 or something lol so im getting rift s. i hope they might add finger tracking through computer vision
Really? How hard is it to plug in some earbuds, I would MUCH rather earbuds or some headphones instead of the infront of ear. Althought i never experienced VR, i have been told the old rift headphones killed the immersion due to have some sound leak from the outside world
The lack of a physical ipd adjustment is no good for me. i made the mistake of buying a Windows headset without a physical ipd adjustment and regretted it immediately.
That's why i kept my Oculus Rift because i know the S will not sell good. Getting rid of the IPD was the most worse thing they could do. But as we all know, it's about the money for them, so what they are focussing on are the people with a phone, not a pc anymore. But the S is not for a phone so why those changes on the S. Glad i have a Rift and not a S. If these changes were on Oculus Go i would understand but it's a headset for a PC... Just make no sense at all. The S has no new features, it's just a downgrade for PC users. They never should get rid of some things. But they think they do good with this choice so let's see. I think many people will be not very happy with the S. What was wrong with the sensors..... nothing... The Rift and the S has a cable so 2 or 3 more cables for the sensors not make a big difference. No sensors is only good for a headset that is wireless. What are they doing with their heads in the mud xD It's kinda discrimination to left out people with a lens spacing lower then 62 and higher then 67. So watch out peeps. The halo design is just crap, when u move to much it's getting loose. The S is just a crappy design. I also have no issues with my original Rift so why pay more for less. It just make no sense for PC users. Conclusion: Oculus S sucks. That's what the S stands for imo Have fun guys :)......
i know this was made about 9 months ago but it seems like a very nice headset for my first vr headset ever and i might get it for my birthday so this video is gonna help a lot so thank you for making this. Good Day
Virtual Reality Oasis Thank you! I have a question though. I have a hp pavilion laptop with intel i7 and a 1050ti. Do you think I should go quest or rift s due to my belief that rift s won’t run much better than the quest due to the 1050ti.
@@VirtualRealityOasis Please try to make it by tomorrow! We need as much content as possible since we have sp long to wait 😣. Congrats on getting it early though! You n nathie deserve it imo since u guys have been grinding youtube for so long
