I found the movie very interesting because they kept it simple. The ending wasn't as good for me because she had promised she didn't want to kill him but expose him. They should have figured out a clever way to expose him and have him lose his job, house and face his gf.
@lechugastudiosyt7465
@lechugastudiosyt7465 17 дней назад
@@orduenshambe4891it works for me because technically she wanted to kill him initially but figured it would be more of a punishment for him for him to be exposed and lose everything ofc. The movie makes us believe she failed and right at the end it’s his lack of belief in the super natural and his own ego that is his undoing. And I think that her sending the bell was so if she ends up failing to expose him, he will still be punished in the end so it was very satisfying for me
@GreatOutdoors1

She also sent the large box before she arrived. I'm not sure how she had one arrive just before she got to the house and the other multiple days later.

@@GreatOutdoors1 maybe she had that Amazon prime shipping so she knew exactly when it would get there LMAO. Nah ig if I’m making excuses for the movie maybe she didn’t have the package straight up mailed to them but rather had sent someone to “deliver” it to them like immediately and had the same person deliver the bell to the husband if she didn’t make it back to her shop by a certain time as a sorta insurance policy perhaps
@PawsomePalsPetService
@PawsomePalsPetService 8 дней назад
@@GreatOutdoors1 I suspect she had sent the trunk prior to her brother in law stopping into her shop as she had already put her plan into action and once she had the eye 👁️ she knew she would need an insurance policy in case things went wrong when she visited the home.

I love this movie however three plot holes jump out at me: Why would the doctor give the blind medium the glass eye? How did the wooden golem get into the hospital without being seen, and why didn't the one eye man tell her "your husband wants you dead" when he was at the door?

I think Darcy used the wooden “pumkinhead” type monster to get revenge on Olin Boole. When she learned that she killed the wrong person she hatched a plan to use the wooden man to kill the true murderers and shipped the bell to herself so that she could use the bellhop for self termination. Her plan got a little messed up when she fell through the floor. I believe she can only control the wooden monster while she is alive, it’s why the monster couldn’t finish Ivan, but it all worked out in the end when Dr. Timmis rang the bell. Darcy wanted to die in the house so that she could be with her sister Dani. Great story telling!

Oddity is better than Longlegs imo. The protagonists psychic abilities in this movie feel integral to her character and to the plot. Unlike Longlegs the evil isn't explained by the devil or demonic powers; in fact the supernatural elements are actually a force for good while the men are evil, but it's weaved together in way that works really well and doesn't take away from the creepiness of the ghost. I really liked it.

I think it's because the movie had almost no marketing whereas longlegs had tons of marketing, but one could easily argue that this movie is better than Longlegs. I enjoyed it more. I would honestly say this was my favorite horror movie of the year so far. I laughed so loud at the end. Wasn't what I was expecting but that makes it good. To end it on such an humorous note for a movie that had very little humor throughout was good.

*Spoilers* It had a few minor plot conveniences but was very good. I wondered why Ted let the girlfriend get away when she had enough dirt on him to expose him and why Olin didn't reveal Ted's plan to Danni since he overheard the entire conversation through the vents. I assume it was the mannequin which killed Olin although I have no idea of how it would have been delivered there. The movie itself had the hair on my arms raised at least six times which is extremely rare for a horror movie. There were three extremely effective jump scares involving the girlfriend that was all the more impressive given the pacing. Darcy was equally vulnerable and creepy as hell. Also liked the stabs at dark humor. Overall, one of the better horror movies to come out lately which should be seen in theaters.

Why didn't that one eyed guy just say "Your fuckin POS husband hired someone to kill you" instead of literally acting crazy, they never really implied that he was still insane after killing his mother, infact they were releasing him. Wasn't the reason he was there to save her? There is absolutely no reason he had to deliver that information so crypticly like that,...
@brodyschum
@brodyschum 6 дней назад
I wrestled with that a bit myself, but upon a second viewing, given that Ivan had already beaten Olin to the house and because Dani was horrified at Olin’s sudden appearance, she would’ve had zero reason to believe him if he’d said her husband hired someone to kill her. She didn’t even believe him that someone was in the house until she heard the floors creaking. Who could blame her? A frantic mental patient shows up at her door in the middle of the night demanding to be let in for a “look around” because someone is inside. Sounds more like a twist on the home invader who claims he’s been in an accident than it does that Olin is some sort of bedraggled, one-eyed guardian angel. Given the stakes and time constraints to save her, I s’pose he did the best he could, especially by encouraging her to call the police.
@finpark7785
@finpark7785 6 дней назад
@@brodyschum True, the only part about their interaction that really bothered me was when he said “I heard them in the wall... I heard them in the wall, and I came here, and I saw someone”. There was NO reason to say it like that... At the beginning he seemed anxious, and out of breath, which is understandable. Still, then , for no reason, he speaks in a way that is intentionally vague and gives the impression that he's having mental issues.
@brodyschum
@brodyschum 6 дней назад
@@finpark7785 Yeah, that does discount any credibility he may have hoped to gain, seeing as his sudden and rather distressed appearance was grounds for Dani to fear for her life right from the onset. But, to be fair, I think he was, indeed, having mental issues, as he was traumatized from an early age, and who knows what they were giving him at that hospital aside from a regular dose of abuse?
@finpark7785
@finpark7785 6 дней назад

The orderly died at the hospital because the scary man ate him. So sadly, it was Darcy who died. 😢The bell was likely an accident. Like she sent it before the whole shit hit the fan, as a joke? Because of their conversation? If not, she probably scheduled the shipment before she left her apartment with the wooden creature. As we learned, her plan was to kill the orderly and expose the brother-in-law, and she failed at both. . Also, I feel like Dani (or fate?) saved Darcy from killing the orderly by showing herself just before the creature got to crush the orderly's head. Dani knew Darcy was a kind woman and a kind soul, and she did not deserve to be the one to give the final blow. She also scared the mistress away to save her. 😢 How the fuck did such amazing people fall for the charm of a psychopath?

Sure people might randomly stop by to say hello or maybe hang out for a couple hours but they aren’t bringing their bags and planning on staying so that scenario you’re trying to use is invalid. You even mentioned called which is not relevant to showing up on someones doorstep and had she called that would have been a way for her to check in and confirm of their plans but she didn’t cuz she knew what she was doing. Also if you go back and watch the movie he didn’t really invite her she suggested coming by because it was gonna be the anniversary and he said maybe in a week or 2 because they were still adjusting to the house especially his girlfriend.
