Can you imagine Alzheimer’s from a first person experience. You just wake up not knowing who you are and you are surrounded by people you don’t know calling you Dad or Mom. That shit would be scary.

The Alzheimer’s desease one scared the actual crap out of me because I lost my maternal grandmother, and she had Alzheimer’s. Now my paternal grandmother has it, and it’s getting worse. I’ve only seen one of her episodes-a minor one, albeit- but I’ve heard stories about her episodes from my family and I’m just f*cking scared. (Sorry for the rant.)

Alzheimer's is not only a health risk, but a social safety risk too. My grandmother was conned out of everything she owned including her life insurance before she passed away from the disease. The live in nurse my father hired stayed with her for five years and toward the end, she had her sign everything over to her. Executor, beneficiary, all of the above to gain everything she could from her death. After she died, the lady had the decency to pay for all end of life costs (funeral, burial, etc.) then ran with everything. Once we figured out what happened we hired an investigative lawyer. He dredged up all the documents that had be finalized in the final year of her life and her signature looked like the final one on the list in the video. We tried to find the lawyer who oversaw all the signatures since his info was in the packet our lawyer gave us and not even the courts could find so much as a trail where he could have gone. My grandmother held life insurance with the same company since she was 25 years old and died at the age of 90. She paid $45/m and it's estimated that the nurse made off with multiple millions of dollars. People afflicted by Alzheimer's should be kept close and safe. My father (RIP) didn't know how to safely handle this kind of situation at the time and never got power of attorney or anything in the name of my grandmother so there was nothing that could be done. So, if a loved one is diagnosed with this disease, the first thing your family should do is sit down and discuss who should have this power of attorney. It basically gives the wielder the right to sign for and make decisions for a person if they themselves are unable to and a diagnosis of Alzheimer's makes them unable to eventually. So be safe out there, people are con artists no matter how kind or safe they seem.

My mom has dementia and we're both really scared for her, especially considering she is the single mother of 3 with me being the oldest at 14. I found out recently that dementia can turn into Alzheimer's which is deadly. There is the possibility of revering it before it gets to serious (according to her doctor), but I doubt it'll happen. I'm worried about how my sisters will handle it, they've already gone through so much trauma. She's started to have episodes and it's freaking me out. She came into my room the other day around 2am crying, talking about how scared she was and how she needed to be by someone who loves her. I have a lot going on at the moment other than this and I feel stuck. I'm scared, I don't want to loose my mom. She's my whole world and I love her so much, I can't even thing about how my 10-year-old sister would react, much less my 6-year-old sister. Sorry for ranting, I really needed to get this off my chest
