I think the overall issue you were facing with you train loop is that the last curve you set up might have been too close together. After seeing your frustration with it, I'm a bit apprehensive about starting to use the trains. I agree with you that it should somehow explain why something doesn't work. I even recall in your first map that you were trying to place a building of some sort but weren't able to. It turned out you were standing on the spot you wanted. The game never made it clear. It barely makes it noticeable when you try to build without enough materials. I'm glad you tried out the Spark Itemizer things and found some success. I was reminded of your first playthrough when you were setting up your Hauling Spark line where they would have also helped a little. The items definitely are not groundbreaking (like the Hauly Sparks themselves), but they're fun. One night I booted up my first map and ran around. Ran myself into one of those Monster Scarer things and nearly screamed at the thought I ran into the Stag Mantises.
I feel longer distances are better used for Trains, and now, due to how the trains go so long, the other items burning for longer makes more sense... which annoys me that they had this in mind when building them. Oh that Spark Itemizer trick is SO very useful, I might set up more paths of it after setting up an auto farm of Forest Spunnies and other things. HAHAHA THey are the most fearsome monster in the game due to their AoE, speed, and how they're never just by themselves.
