Odin Knows Who Blew the Horn - God of War Theory

One of the most widely asked questions in the GOW community is: who blew the horn? Atreus? Kratos? Mimir? (With his non-existent lungs?). But that is a topic I will address in the future! In this God of War theory, I discuss how I believe Odin knows who blew the horn.
If you could leave a like and subscribe (for the sake of Midgard) that would mean more than the 9 realms!

About the whole Atreus being the one who blew the horn theory, though this theory seems very plausible, there's one major thing it ignores.....that being that Atreus does not need the horn in order to call Jörmungandr, Atreus/Loki can just use his voice to accomplish that job, this is proven when Atreus used the sound of his own voice to call a previously unconscious World Serpent in the last fight against Baldur...so if Loki from the future were to call the serpent he most likely wouldn't bother using the horn since he knows he doesn't need it to call Jörmungandr, Loki would just use the sound of his own voice...so I personally think the person who blew the horn lacks the ability to call Jörmungandr with their own voice.

This is a very good point and I believe they put Atreus calling Jormungandr in the game for this very reason.

Interesting theory although I thought he learnt the dead tongue by listening to mimir talk to the world serpent hence why he is able to command/ask for its help in the final boss battle with baldur and Freya

I think the real main detail is that we didn't hear conversation after blowing the horn. Serpent answers was pretty loud, as we know. So, it must be just attraction attention from "watching everything in 9 realms". Somebody didn't want Serpent to know about special power of Atreus. Sorry for my English, I hope u understand my line..

Atreus learned the dead tongue in the course of the game, from Jormugandr. It's just a time paradox that he learns it from his son from the future, but in the game timeline Jorm wasnt born yet. So when Atreus spawns him, he then teaches him the language that he learned from Jorm, that was kicked back in time during Ragnarok. Time travel was already established, so it's a possibility but also time in Jotunheim goes faster than in Midgard so that can also play a role, since it looks like Giants are already dead but the prophesy says they will fight the Aseir in Ragnarok🤷🏻‍♀️ I might have made it even more confusing
@Xevnir
@Xevnir 3 года назад
I actually discussed the possibility of another Jormungandr in a video - as you mentioned the paradox. As for Atreus learning the language over the course of GOW 2018, he definitely learned a little, but he still has a long way to go. Also, (although it's never explicitly stated) the fact Atreus was able to communicate with Jormungandr (in the Baldur fight), was a result of his powers developing naturally. Rather than directly learning it from Jormungandr. Otherwise, he would've learned the tongue from Jormungandr fully by the end of the game. Not to mention (while I doubt the developers will strictly follow this rule) it's a little difficult to learn a language, without interpreting it through another language or through an interpreter - in this case, Mimir could act as one. But I wouldn't be surprised, as our timeline's Atreus ages, his nature itself allows him to speak the ancient tongue. Only time will tell! Great comment, I like these awesome ideas!

This who blew the horn theories don’t sit right me. I don’t think there’s any mystery behind this thing. Baldur probably blew it to get the world serpent outta the water and beat the shit out of it. He literally told kratos and boy that he knew the only way he’d draw their attention was to beat the shit outta the serpent. To me, don’t think there’s a mystery there

@@Xevnir I believe Cory's explanation of the sky turning red when Atreus is sick was a nice play on words if im correct. He basically says the world is reacting to Atreus in this state. Ok, who cares deeply for Atreus, Kratos. I believe Kratos's uncontrolled rage has an impact on the world around him and its cleverly disguised. In Alfheim they are ambushed and Atreus is almost kidnapped The screen goes red and firery. He gets agitated when Atreus talks to Sindri in disgusting manner the sky turns red. Most importantly Atreus almost dies Kratos is in complete dispair losing almost all hope and purpose again. The distinction here is controlled rage vs uncontrolled, and that's is my arguement/theory. May be nothing but it is a theory. Or it could mean that time travel was involved and that there is a distant battle seeing how they (being Kratos's enemies) knew he would be vulnerable, anything really. Even the simplicity of Atreus being a god/giant himself.
@Xevnir
@Xevnir 3 года назад
@@notsopleasantreview3625 I really like this theory! I like how you referenced points in the story that could back it up. As for the screen turning red, I think that's strictly a UI element which ties in with the player immersion - to really "feel" Kratos' anger/frustration. Personally, I believe it has strictly to do with Atreus but if Kratos tied into it, I'm curious if the environment changing would be a combined effort of both father and son. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Or Atreus learned the ancient tongue from Mimir?
@Xevnir
@Xevnir 3 года назад
It's possible, but I left it off in my theory because I believe the developers won't take the easy route when approaching how Atreus learned the language. Not to mention, Mimir deliberately didn't tell us about a detail that Jormungandr said. This is likely because he knows this would affect the prophecy - Mimir likely ties into the plan to some extent. Also, Mimir taught us nothing in the ancient tongue for the entire duration of our journey - again I believe this is because he knows he must not. So for me, learning the language from Mimir would contradict that idea. Not sure if this is anything more than to emphasise how long ago Mimir spoke in the ancient tongue, but he messed it up in the beginning. So maybe he isn't fluent in it? Also, I do believe Mimir is more valuable than ever with both Bifrost eyes now. As a result, Odin would want to steal him as it would be his key to Jotunheim. Possibly introducing an event within the story where he is absent for a part of our journey.
@HouseofRedWine
@HouseofRedWine 3 года назад
@@Xevnir Oh ok I was asking because in God of war lore and legends it gives a little bit of insight as to what the trio has been up to since they spread the ashes and Atreus said Mimir was helping him with some runes left by his mother for him to learn and some other languages
@Xevnir

Exactly my point. Meaning he almost certainly knows who blew the horn. Which has a vast amount of implications: does he know the outcome of Ragnarok in another timeline? How have Atreus powers developed? Who did he learn the tongue from? Most importantly, with this knowledge how can he affect the outcome in his own timeline? The point being, him being the leader of the Aesir makes this theory possible at all.

@Xevnir
@Xevnir 3 года назад
@Youi T No, you're all good! I like discussing opposing ideas with others. Although I never said in my comment that Odin wants to take Atreus (or even Kratos). The whole basis of Baldur appearing at the start of GOW 2018, was to seek the last Jotunn as commanded by Odin. Why? Because Groa's Ragnarok prophecy states: the Jotnar are the deadliest threat to the Aesir. Hence, Thor went on his bloody rampage of wiping the entire race. Although unaware, that one still lived, therefore still a threat to the Aesir. As for Kratos. Lore and Legends mentions when Kratos arrived in Scandinavia, he triggered a winter. Odin feared this to be Fimbulwinter but to his relief, it died out. While never explicitly said, it seems to hint Kratos IS Ragnarok personified. This is why Odin sent Magni and Modi to kill Kratos. Combined, these two directly challenge not only the Aesir but Ragnarok itself. This is why trying to capture Atreus while his powers have not yet developed, would work well. It would separate Kratos from his son - his priority. A great opportunity for Odin to send the deadliest monster of all the realms: Thor.
