This is a quick video showcasing ODM's 11' blank called the Jigster. Don't let the name fool you, however, this rod is hands down the most versatile, well-rounded blank I've thrown.
It's light as a feather, but when you really lean into a 6oz jig head with a 1.5 oz paddle tail on a cast, or need to turn a big fish in the tide, the Jigster has seemingly endless power.
The last fish on video and in the picture was a 44”, 34 pound, striper being leaned on with roughly 15lbs of drag using #50 Powerpro Maxcuatro

Hey Dan I think you mentioned somewhere in the comments that you had it custom made, where did you do that? I looked on ODM's website and didnt see anything mentioning custom rods. I want the jigster with a different color scheme.

ODM Rods are fantastic.

I kid you not I made a bet with my buddy for $50. I had to cast the new Daiwa SP Minnow which is around 1.75 oz and then cast the biggest Sebile Stick shadd they make which is rated at EIGHT oz and used mostly for trolling purposes and that it had to be equal distance to the SP minnow....walked away with $50 lol

lol! I have the 114 Genesis as my all around season rod but was looking at either the 116 Genesis or the NXJ-1110 Jigster for a heavier Striper/blue rod and for use with chunking and use at the canal w/e I am able to get up.

Do you have a opinion on the lamiglas infinity surf. It’s a rod that was supposably lamiglas top of the line rod and there aren’t any reviews on it. Comes with custom grip
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 6 лет назад
Northeast Angler in regards to that model Lamiglas, I’m sorry but I just don’t have any first hand or even second hand knowledge. Sorry my friend

Northeast Angler hey I have 2 lamiglas infinity rods 11’ 2-6oz, and a 10’ 6” 2- 5 oz. just recently I bought a odm jigster and just spent a week fishing the canal.I used the odm for jigging and the infinitys for plugging. Just like having a tool box full of tools they each have there place and application

What is the best reel you would recommend around the 500 dollar range? I have been looking at he VR200 not sure yet
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 6 лет назад
Brandon Bassin I have a VR 200 and if you’re going to fish open beaches I’d say that’s fine. I brought mine into the canal a few times and blew the antireverse on it. If you really want a waterproof reel I’d try to pony up the dough for a VS....it’s a reel you could have for 20 years and they’re just absolute tanks. The Penn Torque II is a badass reel but it’s extremely heavy. For around $500 I’d personally get a Daiwa Catalina from Japan on eBay. It’s basically a Saltiga and is just all around solid. Shimano Saragossas are also sweet. I fish a 6500 Saltiga on my Jigster and a Stella 14000xg on my Century for plugging
@MrProHandles
@MrProHandles 6 лет назад
Dan Evan ok thank you very much I am looking to pair a reel up with a jigsyer and being 16 it’s a lot of money but it’s my passion. I will take a look at the VS for sure!! Thanks for the advice!!

hey I remember when I was talking to one of the CMS guys he mentioned they were building a jigster for someone with neon green guide wraps! did you have it built towards the beginning of this season? thats funny
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 6 лет назад
Nathan Mark unfortunately no that's a complete coincidence as I just got this about a month ago and I was just seeing what I could do with a purple blank!

Hey Dan great videos man. Much respect from down here in Jersey. Have you had any feedback on the ODM DNA series. I just got my hands on the 11ft 1-5oz one and for here in jersey with bunker schools 4oz pencils are the max tops. Seems like a almost too good to be true rod but what are your takes on it. I know it’s light for the canal but let me know your opinions. Thanks man!
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 5 лет назад
Brendan Woerner I’ve got to handle the DNA before and if I could compare it to anything else in the ODM lineup it’s kind of a hybrid between the genesis and frontier X - Like you said, it’s probably perfect for your fishery brother, and I’m sure it’s got plenty it sack even for the canal. I’ve used rods as small as 9’ with a 3/4 - 3 oz rating in the canal. Most of the gear used up here is completely overkill and you’d be just fine using something like that DNA 11’ 1-5 up here.
@brendanwoerner3352
@brendanwoerner3352 5 лет назад
Dan Evan Fishing oh ok thanks Dan I appreciate all your videos and feedback. I’ll take a strong look at it. Yea I hear you but I never know with that crazy current in the Canal you guys face.
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 5 лет назад
Brendan Woerner honestly the whole current thing gets blown so far out of proportion. There isn’t a striper on the planet that the 11’ 1-5 DNA couldn’t stop in that tide with a strong reel, 10lbs of drag instead of the 4-5lbs most guys use unknowingly. I mean if a striper spools you it was either incredibly foul hooked or you’re a moron for letting a striped bass take 900+ feet of line from you like it’s a Bluefin tuna. Most of the equipment we use up here is complete and utter overkill lol. I’ve never been in a situation with my Stella’s or Saltigas on a rod like the Jigster and thought “man if I didn’t have that setup I’d have never landed that fish” - its more like “woah I just water skied a 20+ pounder because I’m using a rod that could double as a pole vault”

Dan is correct.,,, 1-5 oz is totally fine For the canal.,, I went in mid October with my new odm dna 3/4 - 4 oz and bait feeder reel for 18lb max line test., I spooled with 30lb braid., and was able to land few schoolys and 36” one.,,, I’m pretty sure rod can handle more. But I got chance to trow jigster and can say it’s Benelli of rods.,,, It’s like you holding ak 47 in your arms., that much confidence Planning to get me one for next season.,, it’s also light weight and 50/50 split.,,,!

Dan, thats a great rig... How do you like the Alps reel seat?
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 6 лет назад
Walter Hynson I like it for a canal rod that isn’t going to see much sand. The double lock nuts are smooth as silk until you get sand in them. They get cold as hell on your hands in cold weather, and they’re slippery when wet lol so probably the worst surf rod choice....But it feels 10x sturdier than a Fuji....oh and they’re heavier...don’t get one.

Adrian Ayala hey sorry for the late reply. Contact CMS tackle and ask for an 11’ ODM jigster build. If you want the identical reel seat it’s an Alps, and the grip is a Paco grip

Why do you choose jiggsrer over frontier x?
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 6 лет назад
vsonic86 for the canal the Jigster throws a much wider variety of weights, is faster, and has more backbone. I own a Frontier X as well and it’s just not as versatile
@vsonic86

Daniel Kenny I think I just mad a bad investment buying frontier.
@TRDBoomer

Hey bud , just curious how much cms charge you for that build
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 6 лет назад
TRDBoomer with the Alps reel seat, and Paco grip (which by the way is the only grip I'll ever fish again and ties seamlessly into the blank) I paid about $500 and change. I think an even funner setup would be a 10" Jigster with a 5000 series reel just because the blank is SO light for how powerful it is....and CMS just does beautiful work man. They're actually finishing up a Century Slingshot 1327 in all black that will be matched with a VSX250

Dan- thank you so much for the video! I've been so curious about these rods and wanted to see a video on them; also especially on the Daiwa Saltiga. You did exactly that for me. Can you give me the shop's info who build you your Jigster rod. I already have the Daiwa Expedition 5500H coming!

Hey man I've been a fan of your canal videos for some time now. I am definitely looking into getting the jigster. Not sure whether to get factory or custom built just because if it does break (which im sure it wouldn't) I have the warranty to fall back on. Is the $500 the price for the guides, blank, reel seat and grip + labor charge? Any help would be appreciated@@DanEvan
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 5 лет назад
Vinh Doan the factory jigster is a very well built rod. They use all the components you’d expect from a top tier rod. And yes the $500 was everything top to bottom. Either way you can’t go wrong with either one. I’m just 6’2 with longer arms so a lot of factory rods just have reel seats that are too short for me to load the rod the way I want so I get built rods.

Yeah thing is badass. I'm looking to buy the 6500h or the 8000 dogfight. What do you think is a better setup for my 11 foot jigster 4-10oz?
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 4 года назад
American Angler North F.C. honestly neither. The 6500 and 8000 saltiga (I have both) are the identical reel with the 8000 just having a bigger spool. The 6500 weighs like 29.5 oz and the 8000 is only a half oz more at 30 oz. I’ve fished so many different reels on that rod and found that a 14000 Stella or 2020 14000 Saltiga are the perfect match coming in about 6 oz lighter than the saltiga 6500 or 8000. It also depends on whether you’re using a factory blank or a built rod. My first jigster was a custom blank and had under wraps on every guide and made the rod a little too tip heavy and in that case the saltiga helped balance it. But a standard build or factory rod I’d say the Stella 14k and an 11’ jigster is pretty much the perfect setup for the canal and what I used 80% of the time with 50lb Maxcuatro and 80lb fluoro leader
@bloodlinefishingadventuresllc
@bloodlinefishingadventuresllc 4 года назад
@@DanEvan after some research I'm going towards the new 2020 14000xh. Like you said its 6 oz lighter than the 6500h, the only difference is that the 6500 has 11 more pounds of max drag. 55 pounds of drag is already overkill for almost all biggame trophy fish. I have factory blank as of right now, so they dont have the under wraps. I am going change them in the off season. I'll probably put the under wraps on the guides, only cause i wanna customize it differently and balance it up better. Thanks Dan Evans for your time and knowledge.
