i received my go advanced yesterday. mine has no squeaky d-pad like yours. its my first retro handheld and i wanted just what i got. had a load of fun putting it together and learning how to flash an sd and all that to get it up and running. currently playing spyro the dragon on it and having a blast.

I must be the only one who doesn't care about boxes. All of my boxes typically end up in the trash unless it's something really fragile and I'll need the box when I move. Otherwise, they go in the trash. Give me a cheap brown box and pass the savings of not using a fancy box down to the consumer.

Your membrane for the dpad is not correctly placed this makes thats skeaqing noice

This thing is actually able to run low to mid range PSP games very well. It's a bit surprising until you think of how unladen with excess features it is. ALL of it's limited power goes into the emulation. Future software optimizations could have a HUGE impact.

Actually, you're wrong about the power of this thing, the firmware needs to mature more. But this is of the most powerful handheld on the market, based on raw benchmarks, the chip beats out the pi3B+ no problem. We may even see Dreamcast emulation in the future for this thing, it won't certainly play every Dreamcast game, but a good number of them.

If they come out with an updated version with 4 shoulder buttons, I would buy it in a heartbeat. So many awesome PS1 games use all 4 shoulder buttons. The pocket-go 2 or rg350 is the way to go for now if you wanna play PS1 on a handheld.

I was hoping this would be the one and it looks like it might be! If you ever try out Final Fantasy Tactics would love to see how that runs!

Thanks for the video and I must say the cheap quality buttons feeling and missing shoulder buttons .... that is a problem. Next batch in May.. LOL ok need to wait for the review making part. Price 55 dollar is not bad and if you just want to play 2d games like arcade... not a bad deal 😊 To be honest seeing your video I feel less excited 😅

It's not squeaky dpad. It's Emulation Station menu sound effect.

That thing is really impressive. Didn't expect the N64 roms to work as good as they did. I wonder if it can run games like Donkey Kong 64 or Banjo-Tooie with their large environments as well. I still wonder if that squeaky stick is just a rare instance or if this happens frequently. When you mentioned the 20 minute assembly time, did this include preparing the SD card as well? If not how much time did that process take?

M8 are u sure the dpad isn’t your assembly? Just me and others didn’t have any problems

This thing destroys the RG350 all day long for a cheaper price. What's not to love? Plus you can paint it any color you want and throw in actual Gameboy Advance face buttons and a D-pad.

Have seen a few video reviews for this device now. Really want one. I like the GBA style format more than the GB format. Thanks for the video coverage.

Love the power this thing has and being familiar with retropi, the software flashing doesn't phase me in the least, but it doesn't look like it compares to the new pocket go or 350H as far as build quality goes. I just need an affordable handheld that plays all SNES well.

Love the videos man. Do you think other buttons that are available on the market would fit easily? Bummer about the 2 shoulder buttons. One question... Where do you get those tiny analogue stick caps/covers? Most are sized to fit xbox/switch/ps4 which are all much larger than this joystick.

Complaining about Times New Roman font on the packaging!? What do you throw the console away and keep the packaging? They could use Comic Sans I don't really care so long as the console is good.

I get you like Mario Kart but it would be nice if you could try mixing things up with other games Whenever you review a console the default things you go to are Mario Kart and Crash Bandicoot and while it's great you love those games so much, for us the viewers it makes a lot of these videos look the same because you're testing 2 maybe 3 games out of a list of hundreds, upon hundreds of games spanning multiple consoles and it does admittedly make the videos a bit more boring as a result

I order another odroid go advance my first one broke i couldn't screw back screws in for some odd reason I ordered another one got good deal for it.

Most of the critique in the video comes down to "they could have spent/charged more and do this or that", but that completely misses the point of this device. It's like saying that car manufaturers should put turbines on cars, so that they can not only drive, but also fly. This is a (starter) Kit and if you feel like anything isnt to your liking you can just replace that part (the buttons for example) with ones you like. Packaging is also nothing to consider in this price segment...

This is my primary reason for purchasing this... Low cost, dedicated, n64 capable, and still improving. Thank you for the n64 showcase!

how do multi disk ps1 games work on it? i cant seem to find an option to swap the virtual disk for certain games that require it.

Cool handled but the shiiping cost kill the deal, at almost 100 euro here in france i can buy a better handled on amazon for this price.

You can buy it from the Odroid UK website and not have the tax costs etc. I got mine from there, didn't build it yet though.

I've been mostly looking for something that would play up to GBA or so, but this seems like an oversight to not add a second D-pad and a L2/R2 buttons if this plays gen five so well.

Received mine yesterday after a long wait... Unfortunately, the L button and the power button don't work...

This is a device made by tinkerers for tinkerers. It's not really geared towards an average joe. That's why it's DIY and comes in a plain cardboard box. This is essentially a handheld Linux box (powered by RockChip RK3326) running Emulation Station IIRC on top of Ubuntu. This device is just asking to be hacked and modded.

Will note, for people thinking this is a "gaming handheld" well it is and it isn't It's really just a single board computer in a handheld case, hence the packaging and OS flashing, it's pretty much no different from any of their other Arm based boards

Right now there isn't much to choose from when it comes to the image. I have tried RetroArena, Batocera, and the Odroid Ubuntu image. None of them have really been optimized yet nor had the time to mature. There are a lot of options missing right now. The gpu can support vulkan as well. There is no telling how long it will take before this console has a solid image. I am holding off until Lakka or Recalbox has a supported port. I don't expect this thing to be "great" until a year or so from now when we have more images to choose from.

This handheld have multiplayer Mode??

I have one and all the buttons are good and not squeaky. You probably built it wrong. Screen is really nice. Cant seem to find a way to use save states or emulator settings and that is a bunch of crap. Should be the obvious thing to have first. So that pretty much ruins it for me. It has those 6 buttons (bottom) and so far only 3 of them actually do something. Hopefully all will be better with new firmware releases.... Also I dont think it feels cheap at all. Just as good as any of the others and I have most of them. This guy said the digi retroboy was good so I really dont take his advice anymore.

You view emulation handhelds and didnt think the CPS3 could handle PSX?

Thank you for a more honest review than ETA prime only people with a decent amount of experience with retro gaming and rom's should get this buy from a reseller to avoid some of the shipping charges.

the arm cpu in the odroid even though its a lower max clock speed than like a rg350, will still way outperform the mips cpus that are in most of the other chinese handhelds. so it was a little off-putting when you were so confident about it not being able to run n64.

You tested the obvious "run well" N64 game. How about Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye?

Not sure how much n64 emulation experience you have, but Mario Kart 64 and Super Mario 64 are the bare minimum benchmarks. What you really want to test are games like GoldenEye.

Man everyone complaining they can't order lol. What were you guys doing for 3 days??? After I ordered mine (the moment it was available) they had stock for 3 days....3 whole days. This thing is great I'm glad I passed on the RG350/pocket go 2/GKD350 junk. This was only $55 and it smokes all these Chinese MiPs handhelds.

By the way, how in the HELL do you get ROMS on to the MicroSD cards on these Linux based devices?? I can't read the damn thing with my PC, so what the hell do you do??

What joystick grip did you used?

4 shoulder buttons... Why is that so hard, 4 shoulder buttons damn it!

Got it.. Build it... not very impressed about it. Buttons look and feel flimsy.. Few screws broke during assembling it... For files transfer, you need to get linux to Mac or Windows software. No wifi support.. Overall I would give 4/10.. 😩

To fix the squeaky D-Pad, you could either buy other buttons so it would look nice and feel nice or you could use some door hinge lubricant or something like that.

Really wish they’d make a pick up and play option for those of us who aren’t super tech savvy but still, very cool device!

Can you tell anything about it's housing twisting resistance? None reviews tells anything about it. But as far as i heard, the case is pretty thin and you can easily bend it while playing fightings with relevant LCD backlight issues because of geometry changes.

Dude people are playing psp games on that, of course it would play ps1 The rg350 have 1ghz dual core and is playing like 90% of the ps1 games perfectly. Give this a bit of time for the software to get more optimized and it would probably do almost all n64 great and a lot of psp games

It now plays DS, Dreamcast, and PSP, better than rg350 in my book!
