Day 43 thru hiking the Oregon Desert Trail. Last day on trail, and excitement is in the air. Excellent hike this morning out of Three Fingers Gulch and Long Gulch as we continue hiking through the Honeycombs Wilderness Study Area. We cross over a ridge and into Carlton Canyon, then up the awesome Painted Canyon. There's some fun scrambles at the end of this canyon, something we haven't done much of on the ODT. Next we climb up to Sheephead Ridge drop down to Rookie Canyon Spring and enter cow country for the last time. We leave the Honeycombs Wilderness behind and hike Owyhee Ridge over to Birch Creek. This is the final descent now to Lake Owyhee and the finish line. I can see the rocks jetting out into the lake from above, and they are glorious. The sun is shining and the backdrop is just perfect for our Oregon Desert Trail finish. Donny and I celebrate here, enjoy our last moments on the ODT and get a lift into town...
