Day 42 thru hiking the Oregon Desert Trail. Today's hike was an EPIC one through Leslie Gulch, Juniper Gulch & Three Finger Gulch. The landscape here is absurd. You can't even dream up the beautiful and intriguing worlds that lurk in these canyons. We hike Willow Creek to Lake Owyhee. Here we walk the shoreline of the Owyhee River, which is now becoming a Lake due to the dam downstream. We hike to Leslie Gulch, and begin the most scenic road walk of our lives. There are spires and hoodoos, jagged ridgeline and towering rock formations of every shape and variety. They are tall, pointy and downright cool looking. Next we turn up Juniper Gulch, another outstanding canyon hike. One of the best of the ODT. It's in the mid 90s today and it's HOT. We crest the ridge, enter the Honeycombs Wilderness Study Area, and drop down into another otherworldly canyon. This one has no name, but surely it's worthy of one. We collect muddy water from the nastiest water source I encountered on the ODT, and drank it. It was so muddy that it took 2 hours to filter 5 liters of water! We finish the evening with a stunning hike through Three Finger Gulch. We make camp here on our final backcountry night on the ODT.
