OEX Phoxx 1 Tent and Leviathan 900 Sleeping Bag review - sub zero garden camp

The main issue in the cold for me is that there is no room to sit up, which forces you outside. I'm mostly planning on using this in good weather when you can sit outside. Its very low profile, so would probably work OK in the wind if pitched in the right direction. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, I really appreciate it 👍.

Poppet was wondering what this strange thing was in the garden and why one if her humans was lying down in it 🤣. I'm like you I think. This tent will be used in Summer when I can sit outside all evening. I have a 2 person tent a but like your new one, and that's my favourite. I like too many luxuries and too much space 🙂

Thanks Al, glad you liked it 🙂. I find the Phoxx 1 very small compared to my Torridon 2 person tent, but luxury compared to my hooped bivvy, so it will get some use in the better weather. Thats interesting, as I beleive that the temperature ratings make the assumption that you are in a tent, so it may well be that it felt a bit chilly at -3 degrees with an open tent. I reckon I'd be ok in a tent at -6 or -7, rather than -9. As you say though, for the money you can't complain. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, its really appreciated 👍

Yes the Phoxx 1 is tiny. I plan on using it occasionally in good weather when it's sunny and I want to be inconspicuous in woodland. The comment on your Rook rucksack said it was a really useful review as I am thinking about getting the Rook 65. I get the same thing with comments sometimes, you can see one has been made but then it doesn't seem to be there. Thanks for watching my review and take care until we can all get out again soon 👍🙂

Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, and I notice that you have also subscribed - I really appreciate this. I am putting up a video on Friday where I used this tent in very wet conditions. On its own, the Phoxx 1 is not ideal for bad weather because it is not possible to cook in the porch, get undressed etc. However it didn't leak at all, was cosy, and if used in conjunction with a small tarp would be much better suited to wet weather. This video will be up on Friday evening. Thanks again for your support and kind comment 👍🙂

Hi Lee, I tried the Leviathan in temperatures of about 4 or 5 degrees after I first got it, so was keen to try in out in much colder temperatures. If you are used to a Dutch Army bivvy, you will be very comfortable in the Phoxx 1. For the money you xan't go wrong. Thank you subscribing to me, much appreciated. Congratulations on your new tent 👍. I am very pleased with the air mat. It is suitable for cold temperatures and very comfortable, and it is quiet to sleep on (I gather some mats rustle quite loudly).

I've decided to do a forest camp in the Phoxx 1 on Monday or Tuesday next week, so will put that video up on Friday next week 👍

I have the Vango Torridon tent and really love it. Like you say, inner and outer pitched together is great 👍

Hi George, sausage casserole out camping would be great wouldn't it. My normal base weight (ie without consumables like food, fuel and water is between 9 and 10 kg. The actual total weight I carry is typically 15kg because of the 2 litres of water plus wine/beer and luxuries like pudding 🤣. In theory though, with a 1 person tent and in the summer I should be able to do 8kg plus food, water etc. Whether it happens or not is another matter. I got both tent and sleeping bag from Go Outdoors. Normally I use 2 person tents because I like the space, but I'm summer time the Phoxx 1 will be good. I gather that a lot off people buy the Phoxx 2, which has the same design but a more comfortable living space and was only £69 when I looked a couple of weeks ago. 🤣🤣🤣 yes it is. We had a female dog who ruined our lawn by weeing on it, so had to dig it all up and replace with fake

Thanks for watching my video. This tent will be used properly when it's warm enough to spend the evening sitting outside it. The advantage of the 1 person version is its low profile and fairly low weight. The disadvantage is you can't really sit up in it, meaning that you need to be outside the tent until you get into your sleeping bag. Hence, for me, this tent will be used when the evening temperatures are a bit higher. In the meantime I use a Vango Torridon 2 person tent. If you are used to bivvy bags though, the Phoxx 1 is the height of luxury. I am planning on using this on a forest camp in the next 6 weeks where its low profile and small footprint will be ideal. I was very impressed with the tent, especially considering how much it costs. If you want more headroom then the Phoxx 2 is very popular. Same design and quality but a lot more space for only a bit more money and weight. Thank you again for taking the time to watch and comment, it means a lot to me 🙂

@@thecampingastronomer8554 ok thank you for your help information I use a a husky flame 2 extreme tent that I love and I always like the shape of the tent you have thought I might get one to try yes it would be great for woods camping etc Thanks again and no problem I have hit the follow and rang the bell on your channel Myself I do a bit of drone footage and I have just started to camp again for this reason as I plan to go places stay the night and get great sunrise footage over the mountains and summits

@@thecampingastronomer8554 thank you yes they are a great thing to have I know they are expensive but amazing I have the dji Mavic 2 pro and it will fly almost anywhere 30 + mph winds snow fog light rain etc amazing 4K camera and almost 5mile range
