There was a flash of yellow-green in Cassandra's eyes when she was talking to Percy. She's been under the Briarwood's collective thumb for five years. Delilah said that they were spoiled for choice right in front of Cass and Cass didn't react. Vax has a +2 to his wisdom score, meaning he needed a 15 or higher to overcome Sylas's charm. Even rolling twice, he failed.

I think it's ep 5 where Keyleth says that Ziggurats are ancient structures used for communicating with the gods. In the original game, in the fight against Percy's undead family, Scanlan used a spell that insulted a person so badly it causes psychic damage, and it killed one of the zombies. Percy asked something like, "Which ancestor of mine did you just shame to death!?" 9:12 -- Evidence that Sylas is a vampire and put Uriel under his control. 9:25 -- It's not drugs yet -- it has to be processed further before it becomes Suude (meth for mages). In the original game, the charm of a vampire is very strong; you need to roll a pretty high number on a 20-sided die to resist it; like 15 as another commenter has mentioned, or possibly higher depending on who's doing the rolling.

You're probably already done reacting to the full season but I just wanted to point out a little detail in case you missed it! Cassandra had a little yellow flash in her eyes when she was telling Percy through the barrier why she was betraying Vox Machina, meaning she was under Sylas' control. I believe vampires can influence people to do things more easily if that person has a certain motivation/mental state to do that- so while Cassandra may be harboring feelings of abandonment from Percy leaving her, she would've never teamed up with the couple who killed her family if it weren't for the mind control. It's the same reason why when Sylas mind controlled King Uriel during the dinner party to "protect Whitestone" in ep3, it carried into ep4 and Uriel quickly arrested VM to protect the Briarwoods, not because he's a bad person or hates VM. Sidenote, it's been great seeing your blind reaction to this show & S2 is SOOO good, I can't wait to see what you think of it!

so was she not under their control the whole time? I kind of forgot those first 3-4 episodes since I was struggling so mch with filming and wasn't able to post them. Thanks for watching, I did finish the full season just today!

@@kieranshae Yay, I'm excited to hear that! Bit of a long explanation: so the first 2 episodes only covered VM defeating the blue dragon, but ep3 is when they introduced Percy's regular nightmares about his family's death & abandoning his sister after she was shot by arrows via Dr.Anna Ripley. In epi10 they show a quick flashback of when young Percy & Cassandra were held captive and questioned about the ziggurat. But neither were controlled by Silas probably bc their minds were firmly against the Briarwoods- but when Percy abandoned her, Cassandra had no one to protect her & her vulnerability made her susceptible to Sylas' influence. I believe how it works in true DnD terms/the real VM campaign is that vampires can use the ability "Charm" at certain distances & people with high enough "Wisdom" attributes can roll the die to see if they resist or not. It causes the charmed target to regard the vampire as a trusted friend to be heeded & protected. The target isn't under the vampire's control 24/7 & it can weaken, but they'll take the vampire's requests or actions in the most favorable way they can. Overall, Cassandra is just a victim (but you know that by now lol)!

It's not just being charmed; it's being charmed over and over and over and over and over and over and over again over the course of 5 very impressionable years (13-18), with some Stockholm Syndrome thrown in on the side. Since Kieran has finished the show now, I don't feel bad saying this on this episode.
