A non-american reading this for a book club meeting , and although I could have read the book directly this audio version is beyond incredible ! The narration, the acting , even when I read passages on the paper version I read them in the tone of this narrator because he impacted me this much , listening to this is a wonderful experience and adds so much to an already great classic !

The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20-meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. @nadiakaramat8456
@nadiakaramat8456 4 года назад
Hanna Curlee I’m going to have to disagree with you there. 1) the wife was completely misunderstood she wasn’t provocative she was just extremely lonely cause she wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone and 2) she didn’t know about lennie accidental killing animals because of getting frustrated she thought he was fairly normal so how on earth would she have known freaking out was going to make him even more stressed? Lennie was the only person that didn’t treat her like she was a slut so she felt safe around him. That’s why she she felt comfortable having lennie touch her hair in the first place
@gayvagina7353
@gayvagina7353 4 года назад
Nadia Karamat she compared him to a baby But she knew he had the strength to ruin curlys hand But also knew he ACCIDENTALLY killed a puppy, he didn’t table his strength She also kept calling him crazy I pity her but it was also a bit of a fault (Lenny’s too, and honestly George for not teaching him to be gentle)
@nadiakaramat8456
@nadiakaramat8456 4 года назад
Hanna Curlee all of that is true yes but she couldn’t have possibly have completely understand that he was truly mentally disabled and couldn’t comprehend what to do in that kind of situation. I think it’s George fault for leaving him alone and not teaching him what to do in those situations but I really don’t think it was her fault

In the first paragraph, Steinbeck uses adverbs and adjectives to convey exactly how the nature is in that point of time. Some examples would be: “deep,” and “green.” The use of these two words together show how the water in the river is moving, “running” if you will... if you won't, for any reason, that’s ok too. In the next sentence, Steinbeck uses the adjectives: “warm” and “yellow” separately, using warm to express how the water’s temperature is, ie. It could be cold, but it is not, it is warm, not hot, not room temperature, but warm. Meanwhile using “yellow” to describe how the sand is, it is not green, blue, red, orange, purple, pink, brown, black, white, grey, silver, or bronze, it is yellow!
@leiph
@leiph 4 года назад
The effect of this is to make the reader truly feel that they have accomplished something and now they have some new knowledge about how the water moves, what its temperature is like, and how the colour sand it ran across was like.

ok. this is a nice analysis, you’ve got the basic points right. however, you use lots of unnecessary phrases/ words and it’s obvious you’re trying to make your word count higher. for example; you don’t have to list all the colours - that’s irrelevant as you’ve already used the quote “yellow”. similarly, the tangent about the temperature is pointless when you’ve used already the quote to describe it. also “if you will... if you won’t for any reason, that’s ok too.” what? that doesn’t make sense and you don’t need to say that. furthermore, you’ve quoted the word “running” but that word wasn’t used, it was “runs” i don’t want to be rude but the whole part about it the effect on the reader makes no sense. to be honest, where you’ve used so many words, i can’t really tell what you’re trying to say. i’m really sorry and i know this is harsh but i felt like i had to say something.
@jammiejams4941
@jammiejams4941 4 года назад
a different way of analysing it would be: in the first paragraph, steinbeck uses adverbs and adjectives to convey the liveliness of nature. This is done through describing the river as “deep and “green”. combined with the verb “runs” this makes the river feel alive as “green” is associated with life and “runs” shows it’s moving quickly. furthermore, the sand is described as “yellow” which has connotations of being energetic and happy. This pathetic fallacy makes the reader feel excited, as the river is being shown as alive and compelling, setting up the rest of the book.

I just ran across it. I've seen a coupla or three film adaptations -- might have even read the book decades ago. But I have never been so deeply moved by this classic -- hats off to the narrator. And of course to John Steinbeck. I had just finished a three-day listen of Stephen King's "The Green Mile" when I began "Of Mice and Men," which I finished in one afternoon. "The Green Mile" was quite enjoyable, but when I started Steinbeck, I felt like I had stepped into an open meadow after days of whacking through a dense jungle with a machete. I guess that's the distinction between a good writer and a great one.
