“Make sure you have enough to pay for all the up front expenses.” Then lists margarita mix 😂 YES on the be aggressive. You have to set up appointments before you get out of ROM. Have the sponsor do a walk through for you or something. The people I sponsored ended up actually getting one of the houses I walked through for them. When they were able to see it, they like it more than the others.

Interesting! I’m local I usually don’t get to see these houses built for Americans. It’s different from our houses :) We definitely don’t have a master bathroom in any Japanese houses.

Move there next month. Video answered a ton of questions. I think my purchase of a dehumidifier is justified. Hearing about the wet couch scares me. I own a bunch of guitars and wet air + wooden guitar, plated string and metal pickup components sounds like my babies would get ruined real fast.

Hey, are y’all worried about typhoons at all with living so close to the ocean? Genuine question because we are going to japan, and have kids, and I am just starting research. We are in Germany so I’m familiar with some OCONUS stuff, but that and the fact that you use GI BILL PAY for bills… We have found that wise is the best choice for a lot of us here, just wondering if that’s an option?

We will be moving there this summer from the US. I noticed you have a cat. We have one too and having major anxiety hearing about all the pet vaccines and quarantine. Do u know if the pet quarantine is not finished by the time u arrive if living on base can it be finished in the home since it’s on base? We have a Berkey filter too is it hard to order filters out there?

Hey Nikki! Thanks for reaching out! To answer your questions, if your pet quarantines in your house on base you are good and do not have to keep them in a kennel. It is not hard at all to order berkey filters as well. We ordered more through Amazon and delivered to our FPO-AP box. It just takes a little longer to get here. No worries, it’s different for everyone. In our experience, rough estimate, we would recommend 5-8 thousand dollars. For us living off base we paid for 2 cars, security deposit, hotels, realitor fees, and pet lodging. It is a lot of money but don’t stress too much, we earned a lot back through the travel claim.

No, you have the choice to take your children to on or off base schools no matter where you live.

When our family gets there at the end of the year do we have a choice of on or off base housing, or is it based off availability?

When we arrived it was based off of the availability of on base housing. In our case there was no available on base housing so we were approved to live off base. After living, I believe, a year on base you can submit to live off base. I know that there are moving companies available the assist with that move as well. Good luck on your travels!!

Was it hard to find a place with a pet? Also did you buy the cat tree there? Or did you have it with your housing goods?

It wasn’t hard for us to find a place however I know that the market depends on when you arrive on island for what is available. We were house hunting around the February timeframe. As for the cat tree, we brought it with us in our household goods. I hope this helps and good luck with your move!!

Hello loves! Thank you so much for providing this information. I'm a registered nurse applying for the navy, with hopes to be stationed in Okinawa. Question! I have two small pets (pomeranian and indoor cat) what is the process of bringing animals to this type of housing? what is the process to have them shipped over seas? Is there a quarantine period for them? Thank you so much for all your help!

Thank you for the comment and sorry for the late response. For our pets we let our leasing agency know to show us houses that were pet friendly. We are military as well, so we ensured that our flight had availability for our pets to fly with us. This was done through our base admin section. There was a required two week quarantine period if your paperwork is filled out properly. If there are any errors on the paperwork it’s a 1 month quarantine. The quarantine has to be on base. However this is not monitored where the pet stays at no proof was required 😉. Policies change so look into the current procedures. There have been many changes since COVID. We hope this helps!

@@HeyBabeVLOG Thank you so much for the response. I’m happy to hear that even if it’s 1 month quarantine, they are on base and close. And no worries about the delayed response-I’m scheduled for my physical and interview soon, so the timing is perfect as I get closer to the date of ODS. ☺️ Also question, are there Japanese language immersion programs/classes on base or around? I’m currently at an N4 level of JPN, so hopefully if stationed in JPN, I can further my studies and language proficiency. Again, thank you for your time! 💖

Yes there are language and immersion courses offered on and off base. We are always seeing advertisements for them.

If OHA is approximately 235,000 how much over should I be looking at.

We were around that range and we searched at the 275,000-300,000 range. We intended to bring the price down from the asking price. This opened up more options of homes we could look at. However, a lot depends on the time of year with how much they are willing to drop their rent. We hope this helps and good luck house hunting!

We were not in the market for a 4 bedroom house so I don’t want to give you a bad answer. The best recommendation would be to monitor the housing Facebook page: Okinawa Off Base Housing. This is a good resource on what is available.

Not sure why ANY active duty personnel are worried about any of the utilities (unless they're incredibly wasteful) knowing that they will get extra money for the utilities. Obviously not the folks in this video, just in general.
