I lived off base for many years in Okinawa (10 years maybe?). That house is *very* fancy for Okinawa. That fridge is an American style one and literally will not fit in most places that have not been "certified" for American living (Japanese fridges are sized to fit a couple days worth of food...because of that, a lot of Japanese groceries - especially bread - do not have the preservative that American groceries have). Having a real oven is pretty rare too.
I moved to Okinawa Japan, because my father was in the military. If you want to get orders overseas and continue living overseas, Okinawa is a great place to start!
We just received orders to Okinawa and are looking to live off base. Your video was very insightful and this house is fabulous! What is the normal for off base housing? I'm trying to manage my expectations (lol). Thanks!
Oh how exciting! When is your RNLT date? This house was like a unicorn there honestly! Lol it was amazing! Very Americanized, and very rare lol. The housing in this video ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_yFigccvxfw.html ) though is pretty common off base. But housing there is tricky because the occupancy rate has to be high enough to move off base. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to move off base!
You’re welcome! You’re just diving straight into the hottest time! I’ll pray for you! Lol If you have any other questions feel free to find me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter!
I’m honestly not sure what rent was, it wasn’t my house. But I know it was a lot. Wife was a DoDDs school psycho and husband retired military, now contractor. Between 4-5k I think honestly 😬
I’m an army wife and my husband is in AIT right now. I’m supposed to be looking for a house off base within 4 weeks. How do I find a good home if I’ve never been to that area?
You're going to okinawa? So, when we were there the housing occupancy rate had to be above 98% for you to have the option to live off base. If thats changed, there are housing agencies off base that help you find and rent houses. And people will try to find that stuff before getting to a place, but no one will work with you until you're actually there.
I’m playing catch-up on your videos. You’re great. Enjoyed every minute but only because of your voice and you enthusiasm. Loved those ginormous showers. 🍀👍
Well I appreciate it! That means a lot! It makes me happy when new people come join us and actually like our content, not just subscribing because someone else mentioned us lol. So seriously, thank you!
nyapple1978 Unfortunately moving off base is only permitted if the housing occupancy rate is above 98%. It still possible to live off base, just a lot harder to get approval there. This house was in Kin, right before Camp Hansen on 329. It was about 20-25 minutes from Kadena, which is perfect IMO. There are a lot of great houses off base. They just built some and are still building new 2 and 3 bedroom townhouses with 2 car garage outside Camp Shields (housing walk through in video NIGHT OUT WITH FRIENDS | OKINAWA HOUSING TOUR) Hope that helps. Anything else, feel free to ask!
I'm not sure. They moved back stateside, I'm sorry. This is a DoDDs house, rent was really expensive to be honest. There are a lot of housing agencies around base that can show many American style homes if you're lucky enough to get to move off base!
Im looking at civilian jobs there. Just wondering if the houses would fit my big furniture. Ive heard the houses and apartments are usually pretty small.
I have seen quite a few videos about housing and I have to say the level of civilization has skyrocketed. There seems like so very much to do and see and The Rock has become some kind of destination. I loved MY time there, but I feel like I am missing out on something!!! Why is it so difficult now to live off base? It used to be encouraged and being assigned to on base housing was a real challenge. Thanks for your video, it's great!
Thank you, I really appreciate it! Now the on base housing occupancy rate has to be 98% full of more to move off base, all others don't have a choice and must move on base. I think the areas around Kadena and Foster have definitely grown in the last 5 or so years. They build things so fast there too, that helps! Again, I really appreciate it!
I think it’s the same for everyone. The housing occupancy rate has to be above a certain percent to live off base - but I could be wrong. I only know the enlisted side of things.
Yea , The door at SafeWay works the same way.Why not come back to the land of the Big Refrigerator sweet hard you can stay in my room . Its still in debate if I'm A adult or not .
