Partly true, to "Work on what you love" can be your downfall, since whatever it is you claim/believe to "love" will eventually be gone, your friends, family and/or hobbies you just can't do anymore, akin to an athlete that cannot play the sports he "loves" or a singer that can't sing anymore

Easier said than done, our “ modern” society doesn’t value that anymore. We are bombarded with so much technology that doing that seems just odd plus we are encouraged to succeed ( financially) and be enslaved into consumerism to a point that if we go off the grid and g we out of the rat race we are viewed bad.

Oh please do! I come from Manila, Philippines and I went to Okinawa, Japan back in 2018! It's only 900 miles away from me but there is no direct flight so I had to do layover in Fukuoka. Okinawa has a lot of similarities to Philippines in environment and culture, with a strong influence of other cultures as well like American because of the army base there. The people were so nice and the food was remarkable! A lot of similarities with Filipino food too, but lighter and healthier. I fell in love with Okinawa, and I'm sure you will, too! Can't wait to go back there!

SHI-KWA-SA is the most delicious citrus in the world (imo) and you left out the Okinawan purple sweet potato which is different than the one from Moloka’i. The staple fish is Gurukun. When meat is eaten it is more often pork in the form of the Agu, a native breed descended from ancient Chinese trading with Okinawa. The bitter melon known as Karela in India, but called Goya in Okinawa, is very popular during the summer hot season. There are many varieties of vegetables, including sea vegetable, eaten by Okinawans, but mostly the people stay very active and do not care to slow down.

Yes they consume alot of antioxidant rich foods, fast, move alot and eat little but even if we did the same thing we could live longer some of us but not as long as them. The reason is due to their soils. Their soils are very nutritionally dense and contain trace minerals that's rarely in our 'modern' treated soils

My Okinawan grandparents made it to 95. I don’t remember the bitter citrus but one can NOT forget that icky green goya…NOT a fan and neither were my grandparents. We had lots of rice, fruits, danced, walked, played tennis with my Grandfather’s ‘sports club’, after tennis, it was hot green tea, some type of cookies the ladies brought and socializing. LOTS of festivals to attend. Okinawan culture and language are different than Japanese. The Okinawans are indigenous to this island which was taken over by the Japanese in the late 1870s. Okinawans sway gently and easily for a very long time just like palm trees….one reason they live so very long is their resiliency to whatever adversity thrown their way. The largest civilian casualty was Okinawans during WW2. My grandparents hid in caves with my mother and uncles while the Americans and Japanese waged war upon this tiny island. The western diet has caused a tremendous amount of obesity, acne, and health problems for this tiny island which is overwhelmingly still U.S. military. Some of the land has been returned to the original owners. Things are becoming more Okinawan again instead of American military.

These women seem quiet similar to Hunza Valley’s Pakistani elderly women . The secret yes ! seem to be the sisterly bond, faith, family, food with friendliness & activities which give them contentment , peace & a creative purpose to live. Life span however is ordained by God/ The Creator of Mankind . It depends though on us, how to live to the destined age … by the above mentioned goodness or the opposite of: (quality & substance) 👍🏻🌹💫

I live here and can say in general life is simpler in that people overall are very friendly and you don't have to go too far to get your basic needs. The only issue they have now is the modern world has caught up with many of the youth. They eat alot of fried foods and their obesity rate is the highest in Japan. The old Okinawan diet was mainly sweet potatoes and anything they could find in reality. My Okinawan in laws told me the old diet was the 'no food' one back in the '50s.

Humans like cold weather, but plants like warm tropical weather. Okinawa is a place where humans arent baked alive like India, but where plants can thrive in a tropical climate. And many plants to eat means long life.

If you search for Japanese life expectancy by prefecture you will find that Okinawa is just BELOW average life expectancy for the country. So about half the prefectures can be expected to live longer. And if you look at life expectancy for Asian Americans is is about 3 years longer than Japan. Not saying the U.S. is healthier by any means, just that there is something messed up with the "Blue Zone" statistics.

@jerolvilldolid you say you have seen everything, done everything at 32. May I ask: have you ever played an instrument or sung in a choir? If you did play an instrument, were you able to play with others as a group to a high standard? if no to either of these, you have missed a great deal of joy and an incredible way to feel time expand. Have you sketched a portrait of anyone with just one pencil, a portrait that others could identify and recognise? drawing is also a time warping experience, as is plein air painting. Have you done something for your country, or for another person that put your own life at risk? Have you raised a child or even a flower garden and helped create something for others? somehow i don't think there will be a response to these questions, will there...
